Does this mean Cincinnati is going to be pressured again into changing their name to the Redlegs?

Sorry Brad, I wasn't trying to misquote you, despite our mutual use of 'horrible.' It just seems to me that somewhere in the past couple months, the CW on Bay has gone more negative than he deserves. This signing didn't make me jump for joy, but I'd rather have Bay than the status quo.

According to Baseball-Reference, Bay will be the 104th player to play for both the Red Sox and Mets. I'm nowhere near as dismissive of this deal as that. Normally I'm not of the Making a Move for it's own Sake School, but this isn't front page padding. The Mets had a legitimate need for a corner outfielder, and for Carlos Delgado's spot in the lineup. Bay isn't perfect, but I doubt he's somehow become a horrible player now that he's not playing in Fenway.

I've been down Bay Ridge ways a bunch and it always seemed to be a Yankee-leaning territory even in more neutral years. This year was anything but neutral with respect to the fates of the two NYC teams. Though I'd argue that the Mets' 2009 didn't even come close to unseating 1993 as the gold standard for horrible Mets seasons. For me, 2009 was more of a "What If?" year than a full-blown disaster. At the very least, it didn't include any fans or members of the press being injured by bleach or M-80s.

Congratulations to the Yankees and their fans. It isn't the ideal end to an MLB season for me, but this team was the best in the biz this year, and probably by a wide margin. Off the top of my head, this MetSox fan can single out at least a few reasons to enjoy this moment: 1) Hideki Matsui - I always liked the guy and I hear he put on quite the show tonight. 2) Mariano Rivera - Probably deserves to be elected to the HOF twice. One time for the obvious and again just for the hell of it. 3) It came at the expense of the Phillies. 4) krueg, for pulling off the best long con reverse jinx all season that this world has ever seen and ever will see. Good season everyone. See you when the Hot Stove gets fired up.

Wow, the DH, i mean pitcher, spot delivers. Walein - yeah i know, that's why my comment wasn't relevant to this specific case. i just think it's generally helpful for a vivid stripe to help the eye judge depth. having a bright line there could even preempt the need to go to replay in some cases, because it would be easier to see in live action.

This isn't terribly relevant in this case, but I think wherever possible, the dividing line between in-play and out-of-the-park should be demarcated with a yellow stripe. I notice that isn't the case at CBP.

I have to see the replay again, but it looked like Howard knew it was a short hop too, and threw to second when he saw the out call.

Early or not, I still don't understand LCS Champion merchandise. If my team loses in the WS, I'd never want to see the item again, and if they win, wouldn't a "World Champion" hat be better anyway?

Can I just say I love YFSF? Even if I only comment on something once a week, reading it is a regular part of every webday, and even the first place I go after some interesting bit of Baseball-related news comes out. Schilling eying the Senate? My first thought: What's YFSF have to say about it? Y'all are a hoot.

Baldelli's still on the team, right? Or are we only counting the pitching reclamation projects?

Rather than frame it with cognitive dissonance, I prefer to think of the Yankees winning to be collateral damage for a Rangers loss. Let's go unintended consequences!

While I understand to some extent his health concerns as a rationale for staying, I don't get why the actual decision was tied to an arbitration offer. This is already what the Mets are expected to do, after also declining his option. So what's the difference between having that happen in New York versus Boston? I mean, besides the fact that in one place he'll get real work and a playoff race, and in the other place he won't.

Hey, I just now saw that the Yanks have that 3 game set against Texas. And you know what? While I don't think one could call what I'll be doing to be "rooting" for the Yankees, I do want them to win all three games. I've always had a grudge against the Rangers anyway since the late '90s, so why support them now against all reason? Umm, Go Opponent of the Rangers! Now pardon me while I become sick.

The Sox should send Penny to the Mets in that Wagner waiver claim. The Mets'd take him.
