Gail Hapke is a poet, blogger, writer, editor, wife, mom, and college-level writing teacher who is fascinated by the offbeat, eccentric narratives that for her best reflect the surreal side of life on Earth. She is 55 years old and interested in virtually everything, but especially the vagaries of language and literature, art, medicine, nature, music, history, and all imaginable levels of human culture -- with an emphasis on "vagaries." Some might call her eclectic, others might call her easily distracted by shiny objects. She has been married for nearly thirty years and has two children (26 and 15).
Interests: “Absolute power corrupts even when exercised for humane purposes. The benevolent despot who sees himself as a shepherd of the people still demands from others the submissiveness of sheep.” — Eric Hoffer

I'll check it out. I love mad gastronomes. I'm on vacation at the moment and am spending a ridiculous amount of time watching Food Network.
Frontiers of gastronomy
Or, how to make fake caviar. I think this is geeky cool.
There was a pretty funny incident on Food Network's "Chopped" (a cooking competition) when one of the chefs was given a bag of fenugreek to work with and mistook it for a starch (like couscous). Boiling it, unfortunately, doesn't help--it still comes out hard as little pebbles.
Spices in the news
In February 2009, the International Frutarom Corporation factory in, was found to be the source of a mysterious maple syrup aroma which had been reported as occasionally drifting over New York City since 2005. The odor was found to be an ester associated with fenugreek seed processing. No health...
It's very good combined with Indian spices like turmeric, coriander, and cumin, all of which are also good for you in a variety of ways.

Hullo. Anybody out there?
Hullo. Anybody out there?
The archives are fine, bubba. I was just hibernating while swamped with work and emotionally disinclined to deal with creepy strangers creeping me out at random intervals.

The night owl is curious
about pranks and hijinks, musings and mutterings, and the door is open all night
I/m trying to make the comments work right. Sorry it was a little slow about publishing.

Also, the "backward" flag indicates going into battle--look at the "backward" flags on uniforms
SIOA Art!
I am tinkering with the logo for SIOA -- Stop the Islamization of America -- with help from Big Fur Hat, whom I consider to be the in-house Atlas-artist. J'adore da hat! I love this logo -- because it evokes the LOVE icon, and I love love. I fight for love! Art! Music! Beauty! The I askew ...
The design with the slanted I in the star field has the best graphic balance.

Do Support: It's Not a Type of Hair Gel
If you went back about 600 years or so, you'd find that the word "do" was a reasonably unconflicted, straightforward, happy little verb, which most of the time did nothing more than act as a synonym for "perform," "act," or "accomplish." We still use it that way of course. We say "Do the equatio...
I'm right handed, and used to hold my pencil this way when I was in grammar school. My fifth grade teacher broke me of the habit.
Who Holds a Pen Like that?
Every time I see BHO sign another bill, I am fascinated at how he holds a pen. He holds a pen like an illiterate. Have you seen it? Like a little kid who just learned how to write and he signs a scribble. He makes an O instead of an X. Just sayin.

Having the little White House image at the base of the Cross is insulting to the Founding Fathers and to Christ. Who do these people think they are?
Oganda
This is seriously sick. O-propaganda from the New York Times. Seriously sick shiz. We are under cultural siege. The Times and their media comrades will sell their mother to ram through socialized medicine. Oganda -- the country that used to be America.
