I forgot to include this in my earlier post to this thread. Cap visited my hometown recently to promote his new documentary 'On the Shoulders of Giants', and sat down for a lunch/interview with one of our local tv sportscasters. He had some interesting comments on the younger players of today. Check out the link below to watch.

Lakers name Bill Macdonald and John Ireland as team's play-by-play announcers for 2011-2012 season
It's far from definitive what the makeup of the Lakers' roster will look like once the 2011-2012 season starts. But we'll know who will be calling the games. Bill Macdonald, who has been with Fox Sports West since its inception in 1985, will serve as the Lakers' television play-by-play announ...
Since I rarely pay much attention to the guys calling the games,I couldn't care less about this particular post, but best wishes to them all.(LOL)
~
@LRob:Glad you enjoyed 'King' and 'The Queen' doing their respective renditions of 'Soul Serenade'.
Now back to the Jazz.:-)

I forgot to mention, as I examined the photo in this post more closely, I could really see the strong resemblance between Kobe and his dad, kinda made me envision what Mamba might look like 20-25 yrs. from now...nice father's day photo MM!

Lakers Q&A: Joe Bryant comments on the Mike Brown hiring, believes Kobe Bryant will last 3-5 more seasons
Lakers guard Kobe Bryant has maintained his silence about Mike Brown becoming the team's head coach. So I figured I'd stop by Sparks practice Friday afternoon to visit Kobe's father, Joe, who's serving as the team's assistant coach under Jennifer Gillom, for some possible answers. Below is the...
@LTLF and/or LT: Nevermind about JCrawford, he's still under contract thru next season and the Wizards are definitely not gonna give him up(at least I don't think they will(LOL)....he's got WAY too much upside to let him go for anyone other than a legitimate All-Star, he's that good!
Here's a link to an article on him describing his play after the trade.

Well I guess the Heisler article oughta quell any further (needless) speculation concerning Mamba reserving comment on the new coaching hire. Personally, I'm glad he chose not to comment. Let's just let things play out and see where we end up.

LTLF and/or LT: Tho' I'm not sure if the Wizards would be willing to part company with him or not, Jordan Crawford would be a great guard for the Ls to pick up,if available. He played great after the trade with Atlanta this past season. He plays with a lotta energy and can play both guard positions, and he can shoot from the perimeter and can provide some transition offense, as well. I'm not sure if he's a FA or not, but if he's available I think the Ls should, at the very least, give him a long look. At any rate, I'd appreciate any thoughts, if any, you guys might have.
Just in case some here may not be familiar with him, he's the guy who dunked on LBJ during his Summer Camp a couple of years back that went viral on youtube.

@LRob: Sorry bro, I've been a bit negligent in my posting lately.:-) For today's musical contribution, I'd like to veer away from the Jazz genre (just for today) and post 2 renditions of a lil tune that I haven't been able to get outta my head all weekend...the first is by the original artist, the second is by (IMHO) arguably the greatest female vocalist EVAH! ... enjoy!

Kobe Bryant to launch nonprofit foundation aimed at reducing homelessness in Los Angeles

Well, this is a noble act on the part of the Black Mamba, especially at time when so many are homeless or facing homelessness. Hope more pro athletes will follow his example.

@LRob: Glad you enjoyed 'Horace', he can sure tickle those keys can't he? I was really pleased to see Billy Cobham on the drums. I used to be a HUGE fan back in da day.:-)

Lakers assistant coaching candidate profile: John Kuester

@G.Money: Not all those pulling for the Mavs are Heat-haters. I,for one, don't hate the Heat like many on this blog. I'm just pulling for the Mavs coz I like some of their players a lil more than those of the Heat, but I ain't a hater. My position is, may the best team win...PERIOD!

Tough loss for the Mavs in a hardfought contest, let's see if they can bounce back in game 4. One thing I've got to say is, the Heat have THE best perimeter defense that I've seen this postseason and they've forced the Mavs into a lot of TOs which have often resulted in easy transition buckets.
They've also closed out so well on 'The Jet', that he hasn't looked really comfortable on a lot of his shots so far this series, and he's got to do a better job of closing out on Chalmers, coz all he does it hit treys...boy, could we use a guy like that.:-)
And finally, they've got to figure out a better way to defend DWade coz JKidd is gettin' killed and is gonna need some help if the Mavs have any hope of winning this series.
~
@LRob(and Amit): Glad you enjoyed 'Booker', another great one we lost much to soon.

Lakers plan to retire Shaquille O'Neal's jersey number
At an undetermined time, the Lakers plan to raise Shaquille O'Neal's No. 34 jersey to the Staples Center rafters, making him the eighth Lakers player to have his number retired. "There is no timetable and there is no plan other than yes, we definitely plan at some point to retire his jersey," ...
@Tom Daniels: That was a funny line.(LOL) BTW, been meaning to tell you that I always enjoy reading your posts.

Jerry Buss expresses appreciation for Shaquille O'Neal's presence with the Lakers
Shaquille O'Neal once, in the middle of a preseason game, famously yelled out to Lakers owner Jerry Buss to "pay me." Skeptical of O'Neal's injury history and his $30-million-a-year asking price, Buss traded him in 2004. And the immediate aftermath entailed Shaq taking swipes at Buss' preference...
Soooo, the 'Big Aristotle' decides to finally hang 'em up, eh?...probably a year or two too late.(LOL) That said, there's no denying his contribution to the Lakers legacy. He very well may have been the most physically dominating force in the history of the association...just wish he coulda made his FTs.(LOL) At any rate, best wishes big guy, and I for one, am grateful for all you did as a Laker...enjoy your retirement.
~
I hadn't commented on the Mike Brown hiring, but I don't have a problem with it. I'm looking forward to some changes with the team and I hope it doesn't end with the coaching change. The Ls need to make some roster changes, too! I think it'll be fun to see what changes Coach Brown will make and how the players(especially Mamba) respond to them...should be VERY interesting.:-)
One thing I hope to see much more of next season is some transition offense from the Ls, coz it seemed non-existent this past season. Lord knows we can't depend on Ron Ron or DFish to lead or finish a fastbreak, so hopefully the FO will get a few players who can fill that role...we could use some easy buckets once and a while...don't ya think?:-)
And a couple of knock-down 3-pt shooters wouldn't hurt either.:-)
I still think they should trade Pau and get a 'good' PG and some other players(preferably athletic ones) who can defend and fill the lanes on the fast break and most importantly...FINISH. Guess we'll have to wait and see what, if any, moves the FO makes to bolster the roster.

Finally figured out this new sign-in process...#WINNING!(LOL)
I got no questions at this time...I'll try to think of some for a future post.

Well, lookin' ahead to the finals, it should be a good series. I like the Mavs to win in 6 or 7, I think they will avenge their '06 loss to the Heat and Dirk,The Jet,JKidd,Shawn, and Peja can all get their first rings...but it won't be easy. I expect a tough, hardfought series...should be entertaining.
@LRob:Glad you enjoyed the great 'Ray Brown', definitely a true Jazz master on the bass.
