What ho! (not enough people say this.) I am a man of the Earth. A barbarian from "The Great Western Cultural Vacuum" on the loose in Boston Mass. Where I go to Graduate School for some reason.
Interests: I like cats. And Nietzsche and gorgonzola cheese (any cheese, really, in fact, I have never met a cheese I did not like.) I also like They Might Be Giants, 19th century novels, Strauss (Leo, the philosopher, and no I'm not a neo-con!) Montaigne, Phyronnian Skepticism, The Leningrad Cowboys, Hume, Emerson, The Buddha, walking around, road trips to obscure monuments and places with odd names (like the Channeled Scablands, for example [they're in Washington State]) I also like, birds (owls in particular), espresso and sambvca at Italian cafés in the North End, the colors green, red and black (combinations of the three), tobasco sauce, fancy gardens, Bonsai Trees, pomegranate juice, dancing wildly in big empty rooms to loud music... and sweating, ridiculous Hollywood Blockbusters, trout, historical details, extreme weather, Jim Harrison novels, anything Annie Dillard has ever written, green chile, clear language, bubble tea, two shots of bourbon neat, New Mexico, Dostoevsky, Bulgakov, Nabokov, caramel, Modigliani, Turner Ween, egg sandwiches at the Brighton Café, learning (even when it is a pain in the ass and I'm spectacularly wrong), punk rock, George Eliot, the poems of Ikkyu, Emily Dickinson, the smell of clove cigarettes, hot empty deserts, hope, theory, big ideas, cockamamie schemes, pho, flan, toast, pork-chops, thrift stores, unusual boots, The amazing hats the Jewish guys in my neighborhood wear, (Where do the get them? I want one.) watching girls shop for shoes (No, I'm not a fetishist. And to be honest, after about 20 min the interest here drops off significantly, and I go to the sporting goods store and try out flyrods.) and many many other things this list will be regularly altered and expanded...
