My daughter and I started watching Gilmore Girls in 2000, along with every other preteen girl in America. What was different is that we not only fell in love with Lorelei and Rory, but we searched out the US for our own Stars Hollow. You know, the cute little town... Continue reading

We are safe. We had the top of one of our oaks crack off and hit the porch, a cedar shred in half, and the power was out for 16 hours. We are safe and I am grateful. We spent the evening reading and listening to the howling wind. In... Continue reading

Life has been lovely since spring actually started to happen. Those in Arkansas understand. We had snow on May 1st, which is unheard of. Today I had the most lovely lunch on the porch of a new cafe in our little town. It isn't in my Main Street district, but... Continue reading

Seriously. I have read over and over about the horrible things that the CEO from Abercrombie & Fitch has said and my advice is don't be a douche. Really. You can be an elitist pig, but maybe keep that to yourself... or just don't. The world doesn't need more of... Continue reading

I am sure, when presenting, I have told small business owners to not reply to negative comments online. If you do decide that you need to comment it would be along the lines of an apology. If there was a specific issue, you can reach out to them personally to... Continue reading

Tip: before you start your weekend write down everything that needs to get done next week. Then pick the Top 3 Things that have to be done on Monday. Trust me, getting all of that out your head today will allow you to have a decent weekend. Continue reading

The writing practice that I practice and advocate for is a way to get every single niggling thing out of your brain. It is a way to go on with your life without repeating the same troubling thought in your mind. I have found with coaching clients, students, and friends... Continue reading

I know I complained here that this idea of reducing consumption of media is hard. It is, but there are really lovely things that are happening, too. Here is a an update: First Lovely Thing: My husband and I are 100% guilty of watching TV mindlessly while we eat. We... Continue reading

I think I said, at some point, that I am doing this crazy 7 project with a group of Christians from Little Rock who all attend (or seem to) Fellowship North. The project is based on Jen Hatmaker's book 7. Each month she looked at how she was over consuming... Continue reading

Adding a meditation or prayer practice to your day can seem daunting. How long do you sit? How do you track if you are really doing it? Isn't it loney sitting all alone? There are no right answers to any of that, but the Insight Timer tool for iPhone and... Continue reading

I'm beginning to realize the leap we took, the risk, is what so many others really want to do. I am relishing that decision 10 years ago, and this month I am going to focus on it. - Jacqueline

May is all about Unfocusing. Relax. Let go. Relaxation in the sense of hanging out doing nothing is not my cup of tea. Doing. Planning. Solving problems. Those are the things that get me excited. I know, though, that a certain amount of relaxation is important to lower stress. It... Continue reading

I just found out from a friend of mine that several of the businesses in our area are not accepting credit cards. As much as I want to understand the reasoning, I am having a hard time. All I can think of is how this is detrimental to customer service.... Continue reading

April was SUPPOSED to be about finding my Direct Focus. Seeing what I REALLY want to focus on in life/work. What really happened is that I traveled a lot, fell into a seasonal deficit funk over the lack of sun, had major allergies, and rejected focusing. I COULD beat myself... Continue reading

Sometimes I think that the more we knew about each other the more compassion we could have for one another. Having compassion matters because it allows us to treat one another better - we actually care that the crazy person we are working with is a real person and not... Continue reading

I want to join the Cult of Morning, but I am stymied how they do it? Seriously, how do you force yourself to get out of bed when it is dark and cold? How do you go through the day not in a coma? Over on EvolvedMommy.com Stephanie is bragging... Continue reading

I have been in a funk. It is really hard to motivate others when you aren't feeling it yourself. Sure, I can go through the motions, but that isn't real. A quality I like to bring to all things. I was blaming allergies, which are real and terrible, but it... Continue reading

Normally, I would never sign myself up to attend a University of Arkansas sporting event. It isn't because I don't enjoy crowds, seas of people in red and white or sports - it is just that usually I don't understand the sport! Yes, I admit it, I am sports challenged.... Continue reading

Sometimes you fall through the blogging rabbit hole and disappear! I'm back! I traveled to New Orleans, spoke at the National Main Street Conference, attended RazorFest at the University of Arkansas, set up and attended the Annual Sunday in the Park Preservation Tea, and had a series of medical tests.... When you are first starting out you may wonder what you have that might be interesting to write about. If you are working with the first set of instructions (here) you are confining your writing to three pages. It isn't a huge commitment, but you still might find yourself wondering... Continue reading

Remember when I wrote about complaining? I am trying to quit. Let me tell you it is much harder then it sounds. I am so hardwired to whine. Just this morning I shared with my husband how I don't like muggy weather. Well, I didn't share, I complained. I realized... Continue reading

Ahh! My first real corporate job was with Bechtel Engineering and I loved those guys (at that time it was mostly guys). They looked for solutions to everything and even when their ideas were crazy (sending nuclear waste to the sun), they had such delight in considering them. I bet that all rubbed off on me too. So happy to have another Solution Hacker! It is the greatest Super Power! - Jacqueline

What would happen if instead of feeling defeated you spent just a little time thinking about options. They dont even have to be things you would do? Just consider the possibilities. Id love it, for some small thing, if you would be interested in doing that experiment and seeing how that felt. Interested? - Jacqueline

A few days ago I read Seth Godin's blog illustrating a Field Guide to the Meeting Troll. We all have one (hopefully, only one!) in our lives. What caught my attention though was this: Growth hackers look for a yes at every turn. The meeting troll thinks his job is... Continue reading
