I'm not a huge fan of resolutions, but the start of a new year does offer a nice motivation to start a new goal. And I'm almost afraid to put this in writing, but since no one is reading this blog anyway, here goes: For the next year, I resolve to not purchase any brand new clothing for myself. All clothing I purchase will be vintage, thrifted or sewn myself. Here's the truth: I'm a little afraid that I'm going to fail, or this goal will lead to some sort of scarring heartbreak over the Anthropologie dress that got away.... Continue »

It's the summer of travel. Enjoying the week in Chicago with my family and seeing some friends. I love this city...especially when the lake isn't frozen. Everyone here can't stop talking about Groupon. Maybe it's just because I've spent so... Continue »

I think I finally realized last night that it's not a creative problem but a structural problem with the form. In other words, we were going to be disappointed no matter what and we're the stupid ones for believing we wouldn't be. Or maybe the Lost producers were stupid for... Continue »

via www.esquire.com "In thirty-eight years, The Price is Right never had a contestant guess the exact value of prizes in the Showcase showdown. Until Terry Kniess outsmarted everyone — and changed everything." I'm kind of obsessed with the Price is Right, but this is a must-read article regardless of how you feel about it. Continue »

Ever since Tom's departure, I've been struggling to find a spin class I truly love. There's Danny, who upon finding out that I was a Tom-devotee, told me he would neither yell at me or flirt with me. (Um, then... Continue »

Beauty is the path to happiness—by way of money. A new series of studies shows that attractive people earn more money and marry better-looking spouses, and that the economic benefits of being good looking make them happier than their homely counterparts. via money.blogs.time.com I'm SUPER confused why I barely have enough money in my bank account to cover April's rent. I'm getting some wonky vibes from the redesign of the private Facebook profile. The left-most column is fine with clearer navigational elements below the userpic, and the wall is just as ugly as ever. Targeted friend suggestions at the upper... Continue »

The last thing I would imagine the world would need is a *new* blog app, but [Anil suggested just that][personalcomment] in response to my post on building a journal mesh: > I think the best thing that could happen right now to encourage long-form sharing, though, would be having tools... My big Christmas present from my sweetheart was a vintage bicycle, similar to the one I had when I was little. I've been riding it around our new neighborhood and falling more in love with biking every day. Here's a video from the Bicycle Portraits Project by Stan Engelbrecht and Nic Grobler (which I discovered thanks to Miss Moss.) We should all still be biking when we're 82 and three-quarters. Just got through with all that plotzing, and the next hunk of the story is a head-scratcher. First of all, Gandalf leads his trusted peers to the woods and proclaims that he's not going in there with "you people". He YP'd them! His own crew! "It is no use arguing. I have, as I told you, some pressing business away south; and I am already late through bothering with you people. We may meet again before all is over, and then again of course we may not." Who called this mission to order? Gandalf. And he's ditching the crew. Sup... Continue »
