This is a very interesting article because it does a nice job in highlighting how Latinos/Hispanics are at higher risk of losing their vision as a result of complications from diabetes. Because in the Latino/Hispanic cultures, food plays an important role in cultural identity, health eating and physical exercise needs to be promoted in a culturally sensitive manner. Sometimes even when we know certain behaviors such as "overfeeding" using high concentration of oils, frituras can put our health at risk, we do not see it that way. It is important for providers and health educators to provide education and awareness in a culturally sensitive manner in order to get responsiveness and change behaviors. I believe a good approach is partnering with families to understand the seriousness of certain chronic diseases such as diabetes, and coach them to making small but permanent changes in their attitudes and behaviors of living a health life.

Cases like this are so important because it shows the need and relevance to programs such as this that are so critical for a healthier community, not only for Hispanics but for America at large.

If you are Salvadorean and have the same desire, lets make it happen.
