I was also going to suggest bandcamp. It has a good interface and the uploader's also pretty nice.

I'm selling some autographed books next week
Anne and I unloaded a lot of stuff from storage last week, and I discovered that I have a lot of books that probably want to find a new home. So this is just a heads up: next week, I'm going to offer signed copies of the Games Matter chapbook I made for PAX this year (I have about 40 copies) and...
Oh, and I meant to say, also to try to convince my wife to try it out ... she says all the numbers make role-playing look too much like work (she's a physicist).

beware the mad hermit of the northlands
So you've listened to the D&D podcasts I did with Scott Kurtz, Gabe, and Tycho... You've read my series of posts about playing 4E with my son and his friends... You've read my post about being a Dungeon Master... You've read my other posts about gaming, especially how much I love D&D, how surpri...
Thanks, Wil... your podcasts have really been making me nostalgic for role-playing in the same room with others... (have been doing a bit via IRC, but that's not as good). And I was thinking of checking out 4e, so this is perfect.

Hi Wil Wheaton, I have seen you mention Scalzi many times. I just came across this free e-book from Tor, thought you might want to publicize it:

"Old Man's War"
I don't remember seeing you mention this before.
Funny you are hanging out with Frontalot. We know him from SongFight! Some of his songs were written for our competitions over there.

i'm off to nerd prom
It's so weird to have this great week working on Criminal Minds that I can't talk about in any detail until October. I have no mouth, and I must scream, you could say. How about I just give up one little non-spoilery thing, and nobody tells on me, okay? At the end of the shoot, I was thanking a ...

Fantastic. I can definitely hear the Cocteau Twins similarity, really enjoying the sounds. I guess I'll have to buy it, then!
Thanks, Wil, for letting us know, and thanks to Warner for the full preview!

I'm going to make a not-so-shocking confession: I love Scarlett Johansson. I realize that it's a tremendously controversial position to stake out, especially when you've read my blog for all of one post and have firmly affixed yourself to the idea that I hate women, but there it is. I admire th...

Wil - are you reading this far back? It seems my RSS feed stopped updating for some reason. Anyway, Magnatune is great. If you're in the mood for electronic rock, Brad Sucks is awesome as is c.layne, both on Magnatune. I know these guys from Songfight.org. I also like previously mentioned Drop Trio and Falling You.

i'm kind of in love with magnatune
When I was up until 2 in the morning reading The Last Colony, I wanted a little music to fill up the rest of the room. My friend Andrew (yes, that Andrew, who edits all my books. Say thank you to Andrew if you liked Happiest Days) turned me on to Magnatune dot Com a couple of years ago, and sinc...

Yeah! I really loved Robert Guillaume's voice work on Half-Life 2 and didn't realize until I finished the game and saw the credits that he was the same guy I loved to watch on Soap and Benson....
Also, don't forget Portal ;)
Ha! I just realized that the GLaDOS (Portal) == Overwatch (HL2)! Awesome.
-bill
regarding voice acting . . .
Over at Joystiq, Griffin McElroy wrote about Keith David's growing celebrity in video games. He's probably best known for playing the Arbiter in Halo 2 and Halo 3, but he's also in Mass Effect and a bunch of other extremely popular games. McElroy takes this condescending, dismissive tone toward ...

I too am an MST3K fan... my first one was Sidehackers, not the best episode, but enough to get me hooked :)
I haven't seen any of the Cinematic Titanic yet, but I did get one of the Film Crew for Christmas, and it was pretty cool. Weird to hear those "robot voices" coming out of actual people ;)

The Return of MST3K
I was twenty years-old the first time I saw MST3K. I was sitting on the couch with a friend of mine, looking for something to watch on a Sunday morning, when she stopped on some crappy old horror movie. "What's this?" I said. "You've never seen this before?" "No," I said, "That's why I asked 'w...

Doh, I missed it. I thought it would be at least available when I got back to work. The bad part here is that we can't even order the paperback anymore... I waited for the hardcover, but now I got nothin'.
Can we open the ordering again for paperbacks, please?

the limited edition hardbacks have sold out
Wow. I hoped it would happen, but I didn't think it would happen so fast! I took a break from the computer to go eat dinner with my family, and while I was up, we sold the last copies of the signed, numbered, limited edition of Happiest Days of Our Lives. The really sad news is that we oversold ...

Oh yes, the T-shirt debate... yes, I've had that one many a time with my wife. Heh. Most of mine fit in the space designated, though... just a bit of a tight fit :)

my awesome t-shirts
I own a lot of T-shirts. So many T-shirts, in fact, that my wife and I frequently have a conversation that goes like this: Her: So. I see you got another T-shirt. Me: Yeah. Isn't it awesome?! Her: Where's it going to go? Me: In my T-shirt drawer with all my other awesome T-shirts. Her: By "T-s...

Re: music while writing - there was one chapter of a story I was writing, and I had decided that I had to listen to Love & Rockets "Ritual Radio" while writing ... it's a 17-minute song or something like that but I still had to repeat it 3 times :)
I totally dug the audiobook for Just A Geek and I'd love to get that for the new book and also for Dancing Barefoot. The new hardcover, probably, also...

inspire in me the desire in me
When I spoke to Ryan's creative writing class, I mentioned the importance of ritual for me as a writer. When I'm working on a project that takes more than one session to complete, I need to write at the same time of day, in the same place, with the same music. I don't know why, but it kicks some...

We started watching HIMYM from the beginning... not sure why, although it may have been because when I was in high school I looked exactly like Neil Patrick Harris... though not much any more. This and Simpsons are the only current comedies we watch now... Wil, I think you'd really enjoy the show in general.

it's what it's all aboot
I don't watch a lot of TV, but my kids love this show How I Met Your Mother, so I watched it with them this week. I enjoyed it, and will watch it again, but I don't know if any future episodes can match what they pulled off this week with this music video: I guess one of the characters was ...

I haven't been able to read the article - my work web blocks that particular URL (are the articles mirrored anywhere that's not blocked?) - but I am a big fan of games.
Played a lot of role-playing growing up. Lots of D&D but if I were to play one now I'd probably pick Paranoia.
We have a group that plays strategy games... Carcassonne, RoboRally, Puerto Rico come to mind.
Fluxx is crazy fun. Oh, I want to play it more often, but Once Upon a Time is a very fun story-telling game. You can play cutthroat but what's the point, it's more fun to play cooperatively and tell a fun story. Have been enjoying a lot of Boggle lately.

Geek in Review: Shall We Play A Game?
Though I have developed an entirely unnatural mancrush on my Wii, and I've spent what laughably passes for my free time playing Warioware and making the entire cast of the Brady Bunch as Miis, I've had analog gaming on the brain. So this week's Geek in Review, Shall We Play A Game? is all about ...
