How to Recover from "Success Amnesia"
Do you have "success amnesia"? Is it much easier for you to recall your mistakes and what's gone wrong than it is for you to remember your successes? If so, most of us can relate. We humans are supremely adept at remembering, noticing and imagining everything negative. The good stuff? It flash...

Five Keys to Finding Motivation
Earlier today I was really unmotivated to write a blog post. But as you can see, I went ahead with it. Most days I talk to at least one person who is having a hard time getting motivated. Motivation is one of those things we can never have enough of. Often it becomes impossible to find when th...

How to Give an Effective Performance Review
Most of us crave meaningful feedback at work. It's natural to want validation and acknowledgment for our accomplishments, and many of us wish we could hear constructive criticism more often to help us learn and grow. Yet the tool that organizations give managers, the dreaded performance review,...

How to Get the Most Out of an Informational Interview

4 Reasons Why You Should Hire Someone Else to Write Your Resume
I used to be a human resources director, I've read approximately 58 gazillion resumes, I read articles about resume writing frequently, and still when it came time to update my own resume, I hired a certified professional resume writer rather than write it myself. Your resume's critical job i...
You bring up a good point - hiring a resume writer is an investment. Yet if youve been applying for jobs for a while and havent gotten any interviews, your resume might be whats standing in your way. I encourage people to get price quotes from at least two different writers. Ask to see samples of resumes of people in your field. If hiring a writer is still out of reach, at the very least pair up with a friend whos either a good writer and editor or who has a hiring background (or both!) to help you polish yours. Also check out the free resources at freeresumehelp.net and check out books from the library on resume writing. You want to see lots of samples!

Hi there,
With this TypePad blog, I find its pretty good at detecting spam. However there are some comments that are left by real people that are just link backs to their service and I have to delete those individually. I can also add them to my blocked list on TypePad.
I have a different blog on Wordpress and have had good results with Akismet.
Good luck!

How to Boost Your Self Confidence During a Job Search
It's ironic when during a job search, just at the time when you need to feel your most confident, you're feeling your most deflated Earlier this year I met with a client who had been searching for a new job for over five months. Although she had a full-time job, she was looking for a different ...

Thanks for commenting, Andreas. Managers without good social intelligence skills are at a distinct disadvantage in many ways. Giving an ineffective (or destructive) evaluation is just one of those examples.

Ugh, that sounds like a really bad situation. Wed like to think that there arent that many managers out there who behave this way, but unfortunately most everyone has a Bad Boss story.
Is It Your Boss That's Bad, or Are You Just Hard to Get Along With?
In my former life, I was an HR director. HR folks can be a cautious, cynical bunch. Reason #1 - they are the legal front line when things go south with employees. Reason #2 - they've seen a lot of bizarre and bad behavior at work (and they're called in to help deal with it). I inadvertently ...
