An article that my colleague Torsten Witte originally wrote for the german Eclipse Magazin got now published on jaxenter.com. It was translated into english by (another colleague of mine) Simon Boese. You can find the article at http://jaxenter.com/an-editorial-cms-client-based-on-eclipse-rcp.1-37846.html. Continue reading

For our upcoming website relaunch, I did some interesting experiments with the HTML5 canvas element. I wanted to load screenshots or other images into a canvas element and apply two different manipulations on those. First of all my goal was to generate a wet floor / reflection effect for any... Yeah, that is what I had in mind, too. Glad I could help :)
Hey Jean, if you want to simply disabling or enabling the editing support after the user clicked a button, you might be able to achieve this by overriding the canEdit-Method of the EditingSupport class. So instead of setting the EditingSupport class after a Button was clicked, set it anyway and return "true" in the canEdit-Method. It's just an idea - I didn't check whether it works. Hope it helps. Cheers, Sven
I totally agree... At least they could have provided a way to import the old settings automatically.
Hey Rajasekhar, yes, I experienced the same issue. The main problem is that the error message is completely misleading. From my point of view it doesn't really have to do anything with the maven plugin. As strange as it sounds, it worked for me to move eclipse to a folder, that doesn't need admin permissions under Windows 7. So I moved it from C:\Program Files\eclipse to C:\Development\eclipse. Hope this works for you as well. I found this solution here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6529092/failed-to-install-android-adt regards, Sven

Yesterday I switched from Eclipse 3.6. (Helios) to the new Eclipse version 3.7. (Indigo) and I experienced some problems with the maven integration for Eclipse. In 3.7 Sonatype's m2eclipse plugin, which I used before, was integrated in the Indigo release train and is now available on the standard eclipse update... Continue reading

Continue reading

subshell will participate in the JAX conference from the 2nd to the 5th of May in Mainz. Jan Becker and I are going to visit the conference in order to listen to some interesting presentations about Java, Agile Software Development, Eclipse, J2EE and many more. Hopefully it is going to... Continue reading

Declaring controllers via annotations instead of implementing an interface is a pretty neat thing in Spring 3 compared to version 2.5, in my opinion. You get some new flexibility in naming and constructing your Controller classes and in addition you don't have to care about declaring your controller within a... Continue reading

Thanks, I haven't tried that, but I'll give it a shot.

If you want to add a view to your Eclipse RCP application, you usually have to register your view using the "org.eclipse.ui.views" extension point. Eclipse then takes care of adding your view to the view dialog automatically, so that users can open this view by selecting it from the menu.... Continue reading

Hey Siark, thanks for your comment. "Maven Integration for WTP" is part of m2eclipse extras plugin and I actually installed it. Also everything described in the tutorial works fine. The problem is that we are dealing with a much more complex project, which has dependencies on local workspace projects besides the "common" external jar dependencies. The issue I am referring to in my blog post is that the local workspace resolution doesn't seem to work properly and depending workspace projects are not deployed to the server properly. Thats the reason why I described this alternative way of deploying a web application - even if it has got it's issues as well. regards, Sven

A few days ago I had to replace a TreeViewer with checkboxes with a TableViewer using dropdown comboboxes to allow the user editing values inside the table. It took me quite some time to find some useful documentation on how to manage to do that. The eclipse snippet page just... Continue reading

Hey, No, I havent tried IAM yet. But it does sound interesting. I used Q4E before but I wasn't happy with it at all. It had several bugs and I didn't really like the way they included Maven in Eclipse. As far as I can remember this was the main reason to stick with m2eclipse (which unfortunately isn't perfect as well). regards, Sven

Lately I had to add a webservice interface to our XML importer component and so I was taking a closer look on some webservice frameworks. While reading several feature lists and technical documentations I came across this description of Spring-WS. Chapter 17.5.6 deals with using Spring-WS together with the Java... Continue reading

I spend several hours lately to get Eclipse Helios to work with Maven (m2eclipse plugin) and the Eclipse Web Tools Platform (WTP). I wanted Maven to resolve my dependencies for a web project and WTP to deploy my application on a Tomcat server automatically. Actually this should be managed by... Continue reading
