My husband is in the Navy and we saw all three LOTR movies while stationed in Puerto Rico. It was really annoying when they'd be speaking in Elvish because you'd have to try and quickly translate the spanish subtitles to figure out what they were saying. I don't think the local audiences were prepared for the abrupt ending of Fellowship. There was a lot of yelling, "Que?!??!! Que?!?!?!" at the end. By the third movie they were into it big time. Gasping, cheering, screaming at the screen. One of the all time most enjoyable movie-going experiences I have ever had. The funny thing was that Aragorn got way more hoots and hollers from the ladies than Legolas ever did. hehe.
From the Vault: The Fires of Mordor
Yesterday, I decided that I'd reach into The Vault a few times this week, and reprint some holiday-related posts. While I combed through the WWdN archives, I came across this post, which I haven't thought about pretty much since I wrote it. It has nothing to do with the holidays, but I still li...
Just downloaded and played "Re:your brains" on Rock Band. Most excellent! My husband wants to know if you can give him Felicia Day's phone number. hehe! Maybe they can get "Do you want to date my avatar" for Rock Band too. That would be sweet!
Hope you're feeling better and can rock out again soon. The Beatles version is pretty awesome so far, imho. :)
in which a proclamation is made
I seem to have come down with some kind of post-PAX flu. It's not the Swine Flu, but I am coughing so much even I have grown tired of saying "my god, it's full of stars." I can't really focus long enough to write the PAX post I want to write (it's at about 30% completion, I guess) so please allo...
I have been missing your podcasts! Only problem with this one? Too short! Can't wait to read the book. You should definitely do an audio version. Thanks!
Memories of the Futurecast: Episode One
Holy Crap, I'm doing a weekly podcast again! Welcome to Memories of the Futurecast! This is going to be fun and awesome: Memories of the Future, Volume One, covers the first 13 episodes of TNG, so each week, I'm going choose something from one episode, and perform an excerpt for you. It will m...
Record turnouts in Virginia meant a 2 1/2 hour wait JUST TO GET SIGNED IN at the polls, but after that the voting was quick. I voted electronically for the first time. Scary! My extremely patient 5 year old kept asking me when "Brock-a-bama" was going to show up. Still, I felt as giddy as I did voting for Clinton in '92 that my vote might actually be counting for something good. Awesome.
one lever, pulled.
My voting experience was quick and easy. I think I spent more time confirming my ballot was marked correctly than I spent waiting in line. I guess going in the middle of the morning will do that for you. I wasn't expecting it, but the historical significance of the moment totally overwhelmed ...
LOVED the performance of your STNG review. Nice balance of talk and music. Please sir, may we have some more?
Radio Free Burrito Episode 11
Holy crap! Look out the window for restless horsemen . . . it's a new episode of Radio Free Burrito, less than a week after the last one! Show Notes I think we should just go ahead and give this podcast the [Explicit] label, if it doesn't have it already. Consider yourself warned. The logo ...
I bought a beer stein for the hubby from cafe press about a year ago. Was fairly decent quality and the logo has held up pretty well but I would recommend hand washing. :)
Is anyone interested in WWdN merchandise?
Before I put in the time and effort to make some new WWdN merchandise for the WWdN CafePress store, I'm looking for a show of hands: is anyone interested in some WWdN gear, like T-shirts and stuff? I don't have the time or desire to run a store myself, or take the risk of buying a lot of stock a...
Yes! Always looking for cool mugs and tees. Would like to see the return of the "my name is William Fucking Shatner" or maybe "Wil says: Don't be a dick"?

Wil,
Just watched 1981. Was feeling bad about getting suckered in to yet another 80s show, but it was a pleasant surprise to see your mug for about 30 sec. in 1980. Thankfully you get much more screen time in '81. Gotta say I love the sideburns. If Wesley had been rockin' those back in the day he definitely would have gotten some Robin Lefler action. Just another geek... :)
In 3-D!
I can't believe I forgot about this: I'm all over VH1's I Love The 80s 3D. I wasn't in much of 1980 or 1981, but I did about 9 hours of interviews with them, mostly focused on 1985-1989, if I recall correctly. Check local listings for maximum Uncle Willie Snark and your USRDA of funky giant post...
