Capstone is hard. That is the first thing to understand when starting out. There's a lot of work, and at times you will be unsure of where to go or how to do something and it is critical for you work hard with your teammates on a consistent basis to be able to have a successful capstone run. I went ahead and listed three major roadblocks that my group encountered in hopes that it will help you, the reader and current capstone student, be able to navigate these roadblocks better than us. Ambiguity You are going to be uncertain of... Continue reading

Last week was the week. We had brought our plan together and created a slideshow to present to Patty with the work that we've done so far and she absolutely loved it. She also brought her assistant Becky in on the call to go over the website and they were "stunned" by our "incredible work". Patty went ahead and sent it to the board and the board loved it as much as she did and now we are seeing if we can bring things together to present in Vegas; hence the title name (pun intended). This rollercoaster that we call... Continue reading

We are well into the final chapter of our project, and we are putting the finishing touches on all of our deliverables. I still need to finish up the website, while Emily is polishing our final presentation, but we are still ahead of schedule. In the past week, we have run into a few challenges, whether it is with the website or content creation, but we have been able to persevere and keep moving. This week in our meeting with Drew, we had an epiphany moment. We had been creating AACSRE's plan as if there were no other organizations like... Continue reading

Spring Break became a week in which little was completed, but a lot had improved. Emily had taken charge of the social media aspect of our charter, and has been incredible in the work she has produced this week. We had discussed different tactics for the AACSRE brand and now have chosen strategies and tactics based on input from professors, digital marketing professionals, and board members. This all helps my project of completing the new AACSRE website as well. The website is progressing, and has been improved greatly this week, but isn't near the final stages unlike the incredible work... Continue reading

About a year ago I had decided I would travel to Boston for spring break in 2017. I did not realize Capstone, unlike all other classes, does not "break" per se. In an effort to make up for loss ground in the previous month, my team is focused on integrating our Social Media Strategy so that we can launch our first wave of targeted posts the week we come back from Spring Break. This means Emily and I will have to put in overtime over spring break. To recap, last week we made significant strides in our capstone project as... Continue reading

We're back on track, with clear end goals, deliverables and potentially a Las Vegas trip? We have completed our interviews and are compiling our transcripts to help mold the communications plan for AACSRE going forward. Emily and I have elected to focus on seperate pieces of the communications plan, with her taking the social media aspect and I am taking charge of the website. I think this is a pretty effective way of working, and would recommend to future capstone students. Emily and I will work on seperate pieces of our overall project then will meet once or twice a... This week has been interesting to say the least! After not clearly understanding what our roles were for this new path we've been put on, we have finally got a foothold! I know Drew originally stated that we would learn to live with the ambiguous, but the fact that AACSRE is a start-up only increases the ambiguity. I think something we can take away from this week is asking for help. We had been jumping around from project to project without really having an understanding of our end deliverables, but by asking for help we have formed a plan to... Continue reading

After completely switching gears, we have officially begun the interview process. We are currently trying to line up times for our interviewees, but it's a start nonetheless. We also have completed a Las Vegas-ready slideshow that Patty had asked us to build which, if I do say so myself, has some stunning visual qualities. If you know who I am then you can probably guess by now that the title is in reference to my skill set (data analyzation, and strategy) being put on the back burner as of right now. Although this may sound like a bad thing, I... Continue reading

This week was certainly a hectic week. What we thought would be a week focused on building together a communication strategy has turned into a full out brand identity and construction focused week. We found out that our client has decided to use our skills to build AACSRE from the ground up. A full 180 of where we thought our project was going. Although, after meeting with Dr. Kellaris and Becky, our team has a deeper understanding of what our client is and what are client does. Let this be a lesson to any future capstone team. One week you... Continue reading

This project is certainly a marathon and not a race (I know cliche, but I'm not an english major so cut me some slack). What I've found interesting these past two weeks in which I will talk about below are, the variability of work, and the small world of academia. So, I will start with the variability of work. It seems as though this last week was relatively light in respect to the week before, and to any master's student this is an immediate red flag. A red flag that draws thoughts such as, 'Did I do something wrong or... Continue reading

As soon as we (the AACSRE team) thought we were on track we become lost again. Although I should say that as of now, we are on track and have a full understanding of AACSRE. Actually, I think we have a more solid understanding than the majority of people in the signage industry. Anyway, this week started with a video conference in which our group felt comfortable going into and we had a few solid deliverables that Patty seemed to really like (Sherpa Sam, Blog, etc.). We ended this call on the right track, but we immediately found faults in... Continue reading

We hit the ground running. It was nice meeting Patty and I certainly enjoy her straight to the point attitude. Right after our introduction to Patty we had our first assignment or deliverable to complete. Emily and I were now in charge of handing over a press release and its sample packaging for delivery. We struggled with this at first because we weren’t entirely comfortable with our understanding of what exactly was expected but we prevailed. We set up a blog, Facebook post, and a sample email to send over to Patty to complement our press release. We had some... Continue reading
