I totally relate! I did a lot of regular gaming through high school and university, and even my first few years in the "real world", then circumstances changed, and it was hard to get together. About 6 years ago, I was able to get a regular Thursday board games group going with some of the same guys, and some new friends (my wife even plays sometimes), and it's still going strong. I eagerly look forward to every Thursday evening (as well as other opportunities to play)!
