Perfect timing Jeff! I think social media can add to the challenge of feeling like an expert if you run in circles of people who think like you. I've been reflecting on this lately, so your post has helped put things in perspective!

How To Get Paid for Your Expertise
Everybody is an expert! If you hear this tired expression long enough you begin to succumb to the thinking of the masses - that there are very few true experts. When you do this, you begin to think less of your expertise, and are therefore less likely to get paid for it. The truth is everybod...
Awesome stuff Jeff! I came to your blog because I knew I'd find something I needed. I've been thinking about what to do with my blog. Currently it sucks...not for lack of ideas, I can't pin point what the deal is, but I certainly haven't been doing #2 of that list for sure. No excuses, gotta get to it! I'll have to check those links you provided. Thanks :)
What is Your Blog Worth?
Your blog is probably worth much more than you realize if you understand where its true value lies. The blogosphere has been abuzz over the recent acquisition of media blog Huffington Post by AOL for $315 million dollars, a deal that was notably inked at the Super Bowl. Here's what AOL got f...

Oh my! These look and sound wonderful! I am sure that I would have loved the pineapple. In a banana split, that was always my favorite :)
Banana Split Cupcakes
Roasted banana cupcakes and creamy, fluffy whipped vanilla buttercream topped with strawberry, chocolate, or pineapple sauce and a cherry. I wanted to make some Valentine's Day cupcakes but I wasn't really feeling the traditional Valentine's Day decorations with the red and white hearts and li...
These are great Jeff!!
Oh man, I talk to myself quite often, mostly when grocery shopping, to sort things out. There's something therapuetic about wondering grocery aisles that helps me work out other things I'm thinking about!
Also, one I am trying to get better at again, is working out. I find that a good work out clears the clutter and helps me either get to solution or at least put things in manageable perspective.
How to Find Your Productivity Secrets
To increase your productivity this year, take a look back - not just at 2010, but go all the way back over all of your years on this planet. When you do this you will discover a secret. When you were much younger - probably when you were back in school, you typically developed your own methods ...
Thanks for the resource and example Jeff!! I leave your blog always realizing how much there is for me to wrap my head around!
ReThink and ReDesign Your Business Model
Now that you've established your 2011 goals you may be having some doubts about how you will go about achieving them. This may be a good time to consider rethinking how well your business model is working to accomplish your small business objectives. In a recent post I referenced a predictio...
*gasp* Please don't tell me that marbles are a generational thing!!
Jeff, this last installment...perfect pitch. I have much, but fun and exciting, work to do!!

Your Social Media Structure - Part 2 of 3
Yesterday was the first post of Your Social Media Structure. Today we'll build on that. Design for People Build for Consumption Engage for Results - Build for Consumption - Clearly, you cannot build anything worthwhile if you do not have a clear vision. A carefully planned design giv...
I like this! I have been pleasantly surprised at how well business and personal have mixed. It's what you said about friends and family who support you. They want to see you do well and sometimes it's that "like" from my mom or old college friend that keeps me going. Also, friends share my links on their walls and vice versa. I agree that a key is not to force it.
Personal vs Professional Social Media Accounts
Should I create a personal and a professional presence for marketing my small business - and should I keep them distinctly separate? This is a question that I am frequently asked. And the answer changes as the social networks evolve. Who You Are Matters Most A New York publisher explained to ...
I did video for a blog I had a while back. I agree, it's great to do and this is motivating to get back into it! I also have started an internet radio show where I interview people. That has been fun to get to share a part of my personality while also hearing the stories of other indie people...I love other people's stories!
The Little Video Things You Do
Last week I did an interview with a trade publication regarding the benefits of using video for enhancing small business marketing. While I did not create any talking points (as I usually do) - our conversation reminded me how video helps to engage in typically subtle ways. In fact, it works to ...

The beautiful happy birthday banner from zippityduda.etsy.com (click to visit her shop). When I mentioned that I did a radio interview, I should have posted a picture of the shop to go along with it right?!?! Duh! Sorry! So here is a sample of what sorts of loveliness is just a click away....

Hilarious!! I have an eight year old and I just stepped on some tiny little ship with deathly sharp edges he left in the the middle of the living room floor.

Lots for me to think about as usual! I've been trying to get myself comfortable with being wrong out loud, lol! I'm sure I am and often, but I don't like it...I'm learning that sometimes you have to take that risk and try something or ask the "dumb" questions. I've been burned plenty of times by not doing this so I've been working on it!
Is A Dumb Question The Right One?
If you have not had at least a few uncomfortable, or even embarrassing social networking experiences, then you are not taking full advantage of what the social networks can do for you and your small business. A Proving Ground for New Ideas The social web is an ideal proving ground for your new...

Jeff, your approach really resonates with me. I appreciate it and was literally thinking about authenticity for my next post or two. I can't say how many blogs I click through in a day trying to collect information and get perspectives that will help me & my business grow and then help others. I come across a lot of what I call "glossy blogs" that look great and sound great, even have awards and stuff, but for me the heart - the genuineness, if I could use that - isn't there. All that to say, this post was very refreshing and inspiring. Thanks!!
How Did You Get Into Social Media?
There are times in our lives when we are asked the same question time and again. Most of us first experience this when we are growing up and making new friends at school. Most recently, the question that I am often asked when I'm out speaking to small business audiences is how I got into a c...
