Hi David, Thanks for the kind words about my speaking. I appreciate your continued discussion about the topic. I do want to say that in my 15 years of asking people, "what are you a 1%er for?" in my talks, I have gotten many answers of consumer-driven brands, including categories you mention. Some people LOVE their brand of ketchup and dishwashing detergent and they want to tell everyone. You say that these categories make life a little better. For some people, these brands are ones they can't live without; just ask some women : ) I will agree with you that big brands do need to focus on getting new customers and penetration. I'm not saying that brands need to ONLY focus on loyalty and their One Percenters. I'm saying that they should not ignore their fervent customers who are willing to spread word of mouth about their brands. And we all know that word of mouth is the most effective form of marketing for almost all categories of products. Thanks again for the blog post. Jackie
