Wow, Wil. Your parents borrowed my parents's camera?
Halloween, 1977
Check out my totally awesome, totally scary, totally realistic, totally vinyl Darth Vader Halloween costume, from 1977. If you look closely, you may notice that I added a grey T-shirt and some black gardening gloves to complete the look. Do they even make costumes like this any more? Because wh...

"Sadly, I don't have a recording of R2D2 beeping to tell you when to turn the page"
Oh, wow... so they didn't make that just for me, then?
Geek in Review: Big Goodbye Part 2 - Journey's End
I'm really happy and excited to share the second part of The Big Goodbye which just went live in this week's Geek in Review: I looked at the window just a little bit longer. I recalled watching Shatner's infamous "Get a Life" sketch on 3/4-inch video tape in Gene's office with some of my friends...

Good for you, Wil. There are few feelings quite so wonderful to me as reading a paperback on a long train journey and then finding, when I get off, that I *can't* break off just yet...
If you can find a place to lie down and read, that's even better. Ideally a verdant grove of some Arcadian ilk (originally wrote 'grover', which would have been entirely different; super grover even more so).
give a hoot. read a book.
After finishing Monster Nation, I find myself in this joyful place, where I decide which book to pluck from the pile. Where will I go next? Into the past? Into the future? One thing is for sure, I'm tired of the present. All the nonfiction books I've accumulated over the last year, all the inves...

Obviously there's no NEED per se for you to be at WWDN... but... but... but it's WWDN, man... it'd be really cool to have you back there.
closer to home
TypePad has this nifty new feature that lets users build stand alone pages using the TypePad interface that so many of us love, so building a more complex and complete website to go with our TypePad blogs just got a whole lot easier. This is really good news, because it means I'll be leaving Exil...

You'll probably always be a kid.
another domestic moment
Anne: You've been reading your Legion of Superheroes script for today, haven't you? Me: Yeah . . . how did you know? Anne: Because I keep hearing you squeal and shout, "That is so cool!"

Well done, Wil. I don't play the game myself, but I've enjoyed many of your entries here about it (including that three-parter some time back which I passed on to several friends, it was that good). And this is a massive thing to be delighted about, so, well done again! In fact, 'well done' isn't a good enough phrase. Congra-fantastic-gratu-bravo-lation!
thirteen oh six
I went up to Thousand Oaks with my brother last night for a fundraiser for one of his friend's kids. His kid's little league team is going to Cooperstown to play in a tournament, and they needed to raise money to cover all their travel expenses, so they did a casino night with a silent auction, t...

gamestoreguy - Wil has a gap at the top of his legs. He dealt with it in a post on Sept. 2004. We don't really talk about it here, but there is a dedicated message board elsewhere.
it's wesley. cadet crusher if you're nasty.
Diamond Select is releasing this as part of its upcoming "nifty action figures you nerds won't ever open and play with" line of toys. I have mixed feelings: On the one hand, its the closest to actually looking like me an action figure has ever been, which isn't to say that it really looks lik...

Okay, Wil, I guess you're semi-allowed mixed feelings on this, though the vast majority of us rubes would just be dancing the jig of joy right now that we had an action figure of us, but maybe you're past simple pleasures...
Loveandlight's comment was just rude. And AndyMac's made me snicker.
:-)

Congratulations on the invitation!
I think I've been to enough conventions to know how to spell Melllvar.
Last night on [adult swim] they ran one of my all time favorite episodes of Futurama, Where No Fan Has Gone Before. Walter Koenig: And when we woke up, we had these bodies.Fry: Say it in Russian!Walter Koenig: [sighs] Ven ve voke up, ve had these wodies.Fry: [delighted] Eeeeee! Now say "nuclear w...

Ha! Yes, I was waiting for part II!
Best bit about this segment is I thought you were going to end it with you and Brent piloting the bridge set off into space for real.
Brent, of course, rocks. But then we knew that, right?
Oh, and Jester - that's a great story. I'm so glad I decided to take the time to read the comments here as well as Wil's post, because I'd have missed that otherwise. Proof, were it needed, that Wil rocks too. Thank you for it. You did, however, neglect to mention that in addition to a bathrobe, Wil was wearing slippers, a monocle, and pulling on a pipe.
Geek in Review: WFS Part II (electric boogaloo)
If you've been holding your breath in excited anticipation since last week's conclusion of WILLIAM FUCKING SHATNER, Part I . . . well, you're probably dead, but I admire your dedication and appreciate your single-minded pursuit of a reckless and unattainable goal. Hell, if you can keep up that so...

Yes, I'm likewise relieved others mentioned the scenery change, as my reaction was, "It hasn't been THAT long since I visited, surely...? Two days if that..."
Like the new look. Very understated and suave, like a cocktail in London.
killing independent george
My friend Pauly edits an online literary magazine called Truckin'. It's always an eclectic collection of fantastic writers who usually write around a loosely-defined theme. Pauly always invites me to contribute, but a combination of performance anxiety and existing commitments usually overwhelms...

Oh, Wheaton, you're a bad man. I grinned at the 127.0.0.1 joke, still thinking, "It's funny, but I'm not a geek," then followed the link and genuinely laughed out loud.
one more for the geeks
If you think "There's no place like 127.0.0.1" is funny, you're going to love this tattoo. (via reddit)

Ah, you see, I thought that de Saint-Exupéry post was a lead in to 'that bullshit Hallmark holiday', and although I heartily agree it is a bullshit Hallmark, holiday, I still thought, "Ah, that's nice," purely because it's always nice to see reminders of people in love.
Geek in Review: Column Nineteen
Wasn't it just Wednesday? What the hell, man? I'm scared, Dave. I think my mind is . . . going. Anyway, it's time for a new Geek in Review. This one is all about technology, and its role in my life: I reached into my pocket and pressed play on my shuffle. Oingo Boingo's When the Lights go OutDa...
