feedforward - superb analysis! thank you! would only add that some of this free flowing has to be related to physical condition, as Fed himself pointed out.

Manly Norris - re: Peter Bodo put it best when he said that it seems "Federer is playing not to win, but not to lose." seems is the operative word here. an injury will make things seem this way. correct observation. wrong conclusion. all one has to do here is listen to TMF himself. but what would he know, right. he's just so out of touch with reality that he won 16 major titles. yeah, that's pretty out of touch alright! untouchable, i'd say! :-) the press got their "knickers in a twist" because TMF suggested they to do their own work as opposed to bring him into a sucker's story line about Murray. Fed has to much respect for his fellow players to do that. so they took their revenge. pathetic.

Cahill knew of Fed's condition when he put more checks in Fed's "tale of the tape" but then chose Berdych to win. in RF's case, and in all others, physical condition affects play, it's just that simple.

beng - not at all! Pete Bodo, seems to me, respects RF very much, and has written many glowing articles about him. i think the press in general want to jump on some notion that RF was making an excuse, when in fact he was simply stating the reality of the situation during this Wimbledon. here you go: http://tinyurl.com/3xrys89

DragonSlayer - RF may well and rightly not have wanted to speak of any injury while still contending. RF tends to be quite factual in his analyses. it's not an excuse, it's a fact. and neither does it take anything away from the game which Berdych played. RF's assessment of what TB accomplished and where is game is sounds quite accurate.

hi Leigh, ... which is why he needed his good friend Andy with him on that presser! ;-) Andy would have helped him out some, at least brought the pizza! lol ;-) Andy has said as much, that he has had the misfortune to play in the same era. But that's certainly not RF's fault. His pain at the loss to Rafa was because he is so great and cares so much. Can't fault that! the court is the same size on both sides. it's a pretty fair sport, with a couple well-known exceptions (line call US Open against Serena). jd

hi Leigh - didn't see the Miami match, but RF has always set his own standard. Can you be that great at anything and be out of touch with reality? I certainly hope not! :-) Seriously, though, in Roger Federer's case, no, I don't think he is out of touch with reality. ;-)

...but regarding the assessment that Roger is, essentially, out of touch with reality? highly doubtful.

thoughts... ... would really like to hear Boris Becker commentate more. he's great. also the radio wimbledon guys are superb. John and Patrick McEnroe always first rate. they really have something to say other than to hear the sound of their own voice. kudos to ESPN for great multicourt coverage on the internet. shame about the NBC/Microsoft blackouts. Fed's last comment no doubt ruffled the press' feathers a little. 'do your own homework.' Fed should have brought along his good friend Andy: A.
