We are giving Kolbe a try, Faith. She has a few friends who love it and she really enjoyed the trial classes. I'm very nervous! Have you used it?

This has been an odd summer, far busier than I expected. I thought we were going to have peaceful days with the toddler in the baby pool, knitting, making dinner... eating dinner as a family. The activities and obligations of... Continue reading

I guess it's going to take me six months to write a post here but these late spring days are so precious and beautiful I can't let them pass by without note. I can't imagine I have much time this... Continue reading

I'm still not able to manage successful sewing right now. My 2 year old wrecks the machine while I'm distracted (all the time) and when I get back to it, the needle is bent and the the thread is missing... Continue reading

Happy things... Chickadee yarn in the most perfect oatmeal color (Audouin), knit in soothing stockinette - at least for a little while. Gingerbread cookies on the second Sunday of Advent and using my established collection of copper cookie cutters. I... Continue reading

Hello, hello! I didn't mean to be gone for so long, I just cannot find the time to churn out a proper post. Everyone is sleeping in a bit this morning and I made a batch of gingerbread last night... Continue reading

Kelly, I ordered my fabric from 123 stitch. I confess I'm not done yet because everything takes longer than I think it will but I'm really happy with how it's progressing! Have fun!

I had a request a long time ago to go into more detail on our Morning Time routine. I might be repeating myself with some of this, but here is how we've been starting our days this year. Morning Time... Continue reading

On the first cold morning... Gingerbread for breakfast. Later gingerbread with tiny fingerprints poked all over the top. Recipe from Joy of Cooking. Mending a treasured hand-me-down dress coat for the baby. Continue reading

I've read some good ones lately! Kristin Lavransdatter is still on my mind and I didn't think I would find anything suitable to follow her but Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague was just the thing. It is... Continue reading

I finished the second Wee Envelope yesterday. A baseball doubleheader, the Sunday football game, and the ride to church combined to make for a great knitting weekend! A couple of mods on this one: I picked up the stitches so... Continue reading

The weather finally turned and we spent hours outside this weekend, playing football and working in the garden. Reading: Year of Wonder. I found myself in the mood for a good plague book after Kristen Lavransdatter. I don't like discussing... Continue reading

Jenn, I ordered the fabric from Miss Matabi on Etsy. The shipping was fairly quick and priced reasonably. Recommend! As for socks... Basic sock construction would be the Susan B Anderson, "How I Make My Socks" pattern which is free on her website or on Ravelry. An even easier pattern with a simpler heel would be Sell Your Sole Socks which is made with sport weight wool and is therefore quicker to knit.

We are beginning our eighth week of school and it has been a great success. It has not been easy or pretty but it has been our most vibrant start in years. Yes, I cry and struggle weekly and want... Continue reading

Sharron, the following pattern is written for sport weight socks and has a simpler heel so it might be faster and easier. It's one of my favorite sock patterns. I generally just wear my hand knit socks around the house in the winter so I don't mind a thicker sock. http://www.lectio.ca/images/sell_your_sole.pdf If you want to jump right in with a fingering weight pattern then yes, Susan Anderson's pattern is perfect. And sock knitting is such fun! Enjoy!

Hi Jeannie! I bought and used one ball for each sock - a women's size 8 (so I bought 2 balls total). I had quite a bit leftover but I don't think I could have made a whole pair out of one ball.

I thought about you, Amy, when I was writing this as I think we have similar frustrations with our homes not being exactly what we want. I have to constantly remind myself to be grateful that I have all I need and that we don't live in a war zone or a refugee camp. :(

Thank you, Sara! Yes... I'm looking at my dining room floor right now and it is currently covered in water paints - on the flip side the baby is quiet and giving me a second to reply to comments here so I'll consider it a good trade.
