Those mini bio's are so encouraging. I read them a bit ago and was so challenged to live by faith more because of the examples of those who have gone before me.
This site is highly reccomended reading on my reading list too as they are life changers for sure!
A Window Into Christian History
I am in Charlotte, North Carolina, this weekend to speak at the Encounter '06 conference. My schedule is too full to "live blog" it--and uber-blogger Tim Challies is not here to do so himself! So while I'm gone, I will point you to a treasure I recently discovered: The collection of transcribed ...
I agree, single women are in so many different situations. Some times after a woman gets to her early twenties it is not healthy for her to be in her family enviroment anymore. Sometimes God wants to stretch her beyond these horizons into
new situations. God is free to guide women into new living arrangements in His timing. A single woman does need protection and guidance from wise church members and mentors, yet this guidance and protection does not automatically mean living in your parents house. It means a heart-bent towards hearing and applying the Godly wisdom and counsel of those who are more experienced.
Single women aspiring to be wise stewards of God's resources as you state should consider that houses do provide a very high investment value that often appreciates considerably. As you point out the Proverbs 31 description encourages wise use of investments.
Thanks for posting this.
A Home of Your Own?
This week, Focus on the Family's Boundless webzine ran an article by Candice Watters on single women and home ownership. Not long after it was posted, I received an email from a reader asking for my opinion because, as she wrote, "The latest article by Candice Watters has got several of my hom...
Excellent advice...It is so important to examine our hearts and ask God to give us pure and holy motives in our relationships---as well as in all areas of life! This is a very helpful list of questions!
Discerning Idols
At our last single women's discipleship group meeting, we discussed the mystery of guarding your heart. It was a lively conversation as we talked about what we've learned the hard way, what others have counseled us to do, and how we've learned to trust God in the midst of disappointment. At on...
Good articles. It is humbling to remember that anyone is capable of unfaithfulness. Just like David in the Bible. We certainly are not more spiritual than him.
From Nurturing Fantasy to Stumbling in Sin
Last week, Nancy Leigh DeMoss ran a sobering series on her Revive Our Hearts radio show about the slippery slope to adultery. Her guest, Judy Starr, was disarmingly candid about how she was seriously tempted to leave her husband for another man--and this while they were working together as mis...
Totally agree!! :)
Countdown to National Singles Awareness Day
With National Singles Awareness Day rapidly approaching (Valentine's Day to the rest of the lovey-dovey world), it's time to batten down the hatches around our singleton hearts. Here are some time-tested survival tips from a grizzled veteran: Step one: Avoid all stores until February 16 (give...
Amen. I appreciated this alot:
"A peaceful heart is the hallmark of a godly woman."
How true. When I see an truly wise and godly woman she has an air of confidence and trust in the Lord: it equals a beautiful tranquility that is totally from God's Spirit in them! Thanks for the reminder.
Like a Weaned Child
You know that God is trying to get your attention when people keep giving you the same Scripture passage or tell you they've been praying a certain way for you--which just happens to parallel the concepts in the verses you've received. Psalm 131 is one of those passages that God often earmarks fo...
This is so true. The world so quickly deludes us as Believers into a false security.
Good reminder, thanks!
The Battle for Being In the Word
Q: So many Christians seem to be convinced of the power of the word of God. As an evangelical, I completely agree. But I seem to be missing the thirst that others (like you) seem to have to be soaked in the Scriptures. I just find it so hard to discipline myself to read the Bible, and even if I ...
While normally I find early mornings a great way to have alone time with God if I am at home, while I am at college it is not as good of an idea because I am rarely able to go to bed before 12:30 or 1 so getting up at 7 is about as early as possible for this stage of my life
It is a great blessing to be disciplined in seeking God's face early...thats Biblical for sure. The Korean church apparantly has 5am prayer services every morning! What an example!
Effective Time Management
This week, the ladies over at Girl Talk are talking about the time management habits of godly women. One of the keys is rising early. As a night owl, this is a fundamental truth with which I've always wrestled. Over the years, I've come to realize that it's true and I am changing my natural tend...
Thats an amazing story! What an encouragement to pray for our future spouses regularly. Even if God does not grant that we can know that it is because of God's plan. He knows best.
Holiday Prayers
If ever you think that when people get married, amnesia strikes them and they don't remember how it was to be single, here is a tender blog post that will refute that idea. I'm going to excerpt a part of it here, but I would encourage you to read all of Sallie's testimony at Two Talent Living, in...
We need more reformed and charismatic churches. There is such a tendency for people to forget the indweliing presence and ministry of the Spirit in the church and life of believers. Thanks for sharing this aspect of your church. It is also great that your church is praying for the people to stop filtering women through this cultures grids. The culture is ungodly and very demeaning to women, Christians have such wonderful examples of what true femininty is and what a glorious thing it can be if lived according to God's standards
Courtship Is a Community Project
The second message in Joshua Harris' relationship series is now online for free download--"Courtship Is a Community Project." It was given this past Sunday for the benefit of everyone at Covenant Life Church, even though Josh was teaching on a subject that would seem to be solely a concern for s...
I am sure she is recieving great spiritual rewards for her service although difficult. Its exciting to hear of Christians willing to give up comforts here.
A Single Serving in India
When I hear the phrase "single serving," I tend to think of portion sizes and the nutritional information I'm always scouring on the sides of boxes. But I'd like to highlight another use of that phrase--as in a single serving the church. Periodically, I'd like to feature the stories of women who...
