My two copies just arrived today! I'm giving one as a gift and keeping the other for my son.
Thanks, Whil!
Let's take a ride out, see what we can find
"If it's true about there being no rest for the wicked, then I must have been very naughty indeed." -Charlie Stross Yes, I just compared myself to Charlie Stross. It must be the coffee and lack of sleep talking. Go me. I leave for JoCo Cruise Crazy in just a few days, so I've been too busy prepa...
Not only the engineers, Whil, but the leader of the group that held them together below. That took some serious skills to maintain morale and concentration the goal of getting home. Had there not been a good leader in the hole with them, chances are it would have been like its own Lord of the Flies.
precious and fragile things
I'm sitting in my apartment in Vancouver, finishing my coffee and oatmeal. My iPod is shuffling through a massive 80s alternative playlist I made before I came up here, so I've been accompanied by Elvis Costello, The Smiths, Souxie, Depeche Mode, The Jam, and Bauhaus while I start my day. I'm no...
I wasn't able to give last year, Wil. But this year, we were able to adopt two shelter dogs. The first, my son named Commander Cody. They fell in love at first sight. The second, arrived when the shelter called and said they couldn't find a home for a 10 month old yellow lab. Cody and this lab met at the shelter and became fast friends. My son named the big guy Commander Riker, in keeping with the "commander" theme.
These two have changed my son's life, and are such an important part of our family. I wouldn't change a thing.
To celebrate the legacy of our awesome dog
Last year Anne and I raised some money for the Pasadena Humane Society in memory of our awesome dog, Ferris. When I wrote about it here, Anne said: Just over 8 years ago, I made a right turn instead of a left out of the Home Depot parking lot. That was a turn that would change our lives forev...
Step away from the hoard!
What a find. What do you plan on doing with all these rediscovered memories?
garage discoveries
I spent a little time in the garage today, and was rewarded with a bunch of nifty discoveries, so I thought I'd share pictures of a few of them. All of these images can be clicked to embiggen them at Flickr, where you can learn more about them:
I saw a marvelous play entitled "Copenhagen" in Boston that talked about that very thing. Bohr and Heisenberg were chatting and arguing about physics in all forms including ways of controlling their creation, using Bohr's wife as an intermediary, an excuse for the scientist's to explain their theories and rationale. It was marvelous! I think the best part was a physicist from MIT coming to talk about the two men after the show.
Wil, I think you could totally revive the play here in the States.
A Little Summer Reading
Yesterday on Twitter, I joked: "Trying to read a book about Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, but whenever I look for it, it moves."The book I was talking about it called Uncertainty: Einstein, Heisenberg, Bohr, and the Struggle for the Soul of Science It's wonderful, and I highly recommend...
Whil, I'm so glad Kyle + Rosemary = <3 finally was released! I had such high hopes for this show, I was watching Nick for ads -- okay I was paying my eight year old to watch for ads. Instead, he wanted paid for finding you on Ben 10 and Batman.
The short was well worth it. Your voice acting in this one was distinct and well thought out. I loved the in-game voice the most.
Kudos to the entire team!
kyle + rosemary is finally online
I'm too busy to write about how incredibly awesome my trip to Seattle was, but I just found out that kyle + rosemary is online, and I want everyone in the world to watch it, because I'm so proud of it: Find more videos like this on Channel Frederator RAW (Thanks to reader squonkmama for the ...
I just have one thing to say:

Did I mention that the TNG episode of Family Guy airs this Sunday?
If you only have 3 minutes to spend watching an awesome video today, I hope you'll spend it watching the trailer for this Sunday's TNG reunion show on Family Guy. I didn't get to work with any of the TNG cast when I recorded my scenes, but I just love it that we all came back to do this show...
Loved the show, Wil! LeVar was on for CES TV talk, and now you!
I'd love to see you as a regular, maybe even meet up with Bwana for some TWiT!
reminder: I'm on this week in tech today
After playing an epic game of "How about this Sunday? No, that doesn't work, how about this Sunday?" that went on for months, Leo Laporte and I have finally gotten our schedules to match up, and I'm doing This Week In Tech in about six hours. The stories we'll be talking about are here, and Leo ...
I think that says, a lot, Wil, that they were considering Floyd getting away, to haunt Hoch in the future.
I think it says a lot that they would even invite you back had you not been splattered all over the roadway :)
Criminal Minds: That's a Wrap!
This is the sixth and final post about working on episode four, Paradise, during season four of Criminal Minds. I spoke with CliqueClack.com about some of my production experiences, and I have a gallery of images from the shoot at Flickr. Please note that I've done my best to recreate my interac...

You sir, are entirely too good at playing a twisted sick fuck.
Kudos man, you did an awesome job and really dove into the part and it showed with all the passion and realism you brought to it.
It's a shame Floyd doesn't get to come back!

Happy birthday wishes to the coolest geek in the universe. Enjoy your day, Wil!
castles made of sand fall in the sea, eventually
(Epic thanks to WWdN reader Miss Kitty who took this, made me look cooler than I am, and gave me permission to post it on my blog.)

I know I already shared with you my favorite memory of the place, Wil -- but it bears repeating...
The photo of Wesley in uniform at Troi and Riker's wedding will forever be embedded in my memory. It was that moment of reunion I'd love to have for Wil all the time -- not just in my memory, but getting the band back together completely.
I had my first warp core breach two weekends ago, and I'll be taking my son, who has scared up the nerve, to ride the rides. He's 8, but he asked me if he could, as this closing means he may never get another chance.
And Wesley is a cool kid in his eyes too, just like my own :)
<3 Wil!
Star Trek: The Experience is closing
It was bound to happen sooner or later, and though I've known this was coming for a few months now, I was still really sad to read confirmation that Star Trek: The Experience is closing September first. Offering a sad commentary on the state of the Star Trek franchise, the Hilton Hotel in Las V...

I've always thought of you as a brother, like I grew up with you watching you in your movies and TV work. When I discovered your books andyour blog, it was yet another way to say "Hey, Wil's a good guy, I want to help him." It's not really capitalizing on your work, but more of a "I believe in you" kinda thing. $100 is the least I could do to show I like what you're doing. I'd buy you a drink and wings at Hooter's, too, but I know you'd settle for the $100 :)
I talk a ton with a literature-teacher friend. He loves your work. He uses your writing style with his high school students to get them to understand the next generation of literature and how they, too, can write succinctly and efficiently, but with grace and humor. Always remember that while we worry about finances, there is a legacy that is left behind as well.
in which i have a new challenge, and a new goal
I worry a lot. It's in my nature, and my doctors tell me that if I can't stop worrying so much, I'll have hypertension and high blood pressure. In fact, I'm already on my way there, and it's one of the main reasons I felt so lousy while I tried to recover from sinus surgery. More than anything e...

It's amazing you had all that plastic up your nose huh? I didn't keep mine as a souvenir, but I should have!
Just remember what I said, your breathing through your nose is gonna sound different, you might wake up at night and wonder who the stranger in your bed is that's breathing down your neck!
breathe . . . breathe in the air
Hey, want to have some fun? Take a look at your nose. See how normally-sized it is? Pretty small and stuff, right? Maybe a few centimeters across? This afternoon, my doctor pulled two plastic splints out of mine, each the about one-and-a-half times the size of a silver dollar and shape of a sm...

When those stints come out of your nose, be prepared for your sense of smell to drastically improve and your airway to seem more open than ever before! But, also be prepared for major gross factor, toO!
notice whom for wheels are turning
Yesterday, I woke up feeling about 50% of normal. It's the closest I've felt to normal since I went in for surgery, so it was a huge improvement. I got all the way up to about 70% by the late afternoon, but was back down to 50% by the time I went to bed. I feel pretty much the same, this morning...

One really weird thing that happened after my septoplasty and sinus scraping... I woke up in the middle of the night after all the chicken livers had gone away... and I heard a stranger breathing in my bed!
It was my own damn nose, but the pitch of my own breathing changed enough to scare the shit out of me when I first heard it.
i don't want to go on the cart
I feel happy! I feel happy! In all seriousness, I'm recovering at exactly the right pace, according to people who keep score on this sort of thing. Warning: this is about to get gross. I'm off all the meds, except for some stupid steroid for swelling that makes me really fucking irritable and re...

Yes, as long as we can get larger sizes too ;)
Is anyone interested in WWdN merchandise?
Before I put in the time and effort to make some new WWdN merchandise for the WWdN CafePress store, I'm looking for a show of hands: is anyone interested in some WWdN gear, like T-shirts and stuff? I don't have the time or desire to run a store myself, or take the risk of buying a lot of stock a...
