Vinnie: The key additional point-of-view is that of the employer/buyer trying to organize all these different forms of non-employee work and workers globally, needing to make sure the workers tracked for compliance/security reasons, that they are budgeted and paid correctly, and that the buyer got what they paid for (service quality and results).
There's a fairly mature SaaS solution category called "Services Procurement" that addresses these challenges for enterprises (IQNavigator is one of the leaders), filling the gaps between ERP and eProcurement and HR systems to manage all types of non-employee workers globally for cost control, ensuring compliance and providing extended-workforce visibility.
