Thanks very much! I just need some prodding.
Immobilized
"To choose doubt as a philosophy of life is akin to choosing immobility as a means of transportation." - Yann Martel
Thanks; I just removed the link. I had picked it up via a Tumblr feed.
When superheroes were kids (including digital Jarvis)
Stan - I'm on the hop. When I'm back, I'll look it up and get in touch. If I forget after 2 weeks, use the Email Me link on the right-hand side.
The view is better, too
"The practice of putting women on pedestals began to die out when it was discovered that they could give orders better from there." - Betty Grable
Yes, that's Hugh Laurie, from A Bit of Fry and Laurie.
The joy of swearing, with Stephen Fry
Stephen Fry speaks up for the cursers, noting (rather correctly, I feel) that those who say that swearing is a sign of a poor vocabulary happen to have a poor vocabulary themselves. Needless to say, this is not meant for children or playing aloud in a workplace. Unless everyone's into cursing.
Thanks for the note, Steve; I'll correct the text to direct future readers of the post to your URL.
What rabbits do with shadows
UPDATE: The image above is based on work by Steve Shaw, at Light Illusion.
Interesting point, except that I did use the word "song" and not "single." Also, the thread it's posted to is called "song of the day." I guess I could put "excerpt of body of work of the day," but that might be a bit unwieldy. :)
All that said, Solsbury Hill *was* indeed the first single that Peter Gabriel issued as a solo artist.
All the best.
Solsbury Hill
This is the song that set Peter Gabriel on his way as a solo artist, literally; it's about his decision to walk away from Genesis just as they were hitting their stride ("the machinery," as he put it). It's also well-known for having a time signature of 7/4, which makes clapping along a teensy b...
It could very well be. The years blend together!
Will Ferrell does some advertising for ... Old Milwaukee?
Those who remember the beer strike in Newfoundland and Labrador in 1985 (if I have my dates right) will surely remember Old Milwaukee ... which quickly gained the nickname "Old Millwater" from less-than-impressed consumers who nonetheless took to the U.S. import as a crutch while the strike drag...
I found this on eBay ...

There's a real after-market for TeeFury shirts. They really are a bargain at $10 ... some of the more expensive ones on eBay go for well over $30.
The T-shirt for Troy and Abed (and not necessarily in the morning)
A Community-themed shirt, with in-jokes all over, is on offer today only from TeeFury.
My hunch is that the iPad 3 will feature a significantly better camera ... and much better screen resolution. We'll find out next month!
iPhoneography: Picture the possibilities in your phone
[Surfs Up, as published in the St. John's Telegram on Feb. 2, 2012.] Last fall, I was talking to a friend of mine who has a talent for photography that I’ve long admired, if not envied. I asked if he had gone out for any expeditions lately with his camera. “Not quite,” he said. He revealed...
Thanks!
The gingerbread AT-AT
Not sure what makes the AT-AT walker from The Empire Strikes Back so likely to bring Christmas to mind, at least for some people, but it does. A couple of years ago, we liked one T-shirt design we bought a shirt for each member of the family. Today, I saw this: a gingerbread recreation. Publishe...
