doodling on shrink with colored pencils............. Like anything else the more you practice the more familiar you are, that is so true with this Shrink plastic.....over the weekend Julie Haymaker taught so many different techniques to this fun plastic medium and techniques I never thought could be accomplished............Julie has her own company called 'Shrinkets' and you can go to her website @ Julie Haymaker and get all the information and free tutorials on anything shrink.........she loves to share! This past weekend we all had the pleasure of taking some Shrink Art classes from the Talented Julie Haymaker.......we all went away with some beautiful pieces of jewelry and enjoyed the process of Julie' s expertise teaching of all things Shrink and Metal. She is so knowledgeable in Art and it's so interesting what and how she teaches from her Art background. She has gone and done it once again " Tula Pink"..........this gal is one of the most talented fabric/quilt designers right now........ if you like all that is whimsical and fun!!!!! Several months ago my friend Nancy sent me a text and photo of these Dogs, deer and geese with Christmas sweaters, glasses and antlers.............I went crazy of course! We celebrated my mom's 87th birthday over the brother, sister in law and their grandaughter was here from Austin so we celebrated a little early........ To say the least we had a great time........these two are two peas in a pod! To bad they don't live closer. Avila is my brothers grandaughter .....she was named after Avila Beach in California! For those of you who will be coming to the Travel Journal Class here is your list of things you will need to bring: crop a dile corner rounder distressed ink you like to use paper trimmer sand paper glue stick or whatever you use to adhere your paper scissors gold leaf pen if you like to go around the edges with gold and if you have washi tape and any kind of summer papers and doo da's bring those.......since the theme is kind of red white and blue you might keep that in mind when bringing any extras See... Last night was relaxing and maybe to relaxing because we all laughed so hard that we were hurting!!! Our friend Lisa has been absent from classes for a while with some health issues so last night she made up for lost time!!!!!! Like Peggy said "laughing is good for the soul", and I think all our souls are caught up for the next year!!!! If you are from my generation born in the 50's-60's you might remember in High School the Charm bracelets..........everyone was wearing them and the more charms you had the better!!!!! My dear friend Marilyn gave the bracelet on my 16th birthday...... the round charm in the bottom photo saying Happy Birthday. Her name was engraved on the back but has since been erased from wear and tear from years of rubbing other charms against the back........ Well if you haven't noticed lately , tassels and pom poms are, home accessories, shoes, handbags, baskets , etc. I was in Dallas last month for Gift Market and did see plenty of these fun little objects on just about anything you can think of! Just want to say THANK YOU to all those who were my surprise guest wednesday night............ let's back up first...... Cindy got these cute stamps and I thought I could shrink them and use one my new pin cushions.........I have been experimenting with color on the shrink. I have always used pastel chalk and love the soft colors but thought I'd try colored pencil like the two first's a little more rough looking. With pencil you can get a little more detailed than the chalk but I prefer the chalk! That's just me.....for this kind of coloring. this is on my work or should I say tonight's stitching while watching TV! And a wee big of Christmas ............!!!!!... Continue reading

I always forget to take photos when I serve dinner so this is what was left over....... not a good photo, but it is really a refreshing side! Last week I showed you a photo and now I can show you what I was making.......... to finish these pin cushions I needed more 3mm wool felted balls ..... frantically I looked in every store I could think of who might have them, finding no one carried them anymore(at least the big ones) and not wanting to wait for ordering on line I then decided to watch a tutorial and make my own and here they are.......with wool roving, a little soapy water, and hot water this is the result! with a little ribbon, felt, beads and a few... I couldn't help myself to cut a few from my yard hydrangeas aren't blooming at all this year! And finally ALL my hardware that was back ordered came in and we are all finished with these newly painted cabinets ........I really do love the satin gold finish. It makes everything look new and different even though we just painted and changed out the hardware.
