That last insulting comment is way out of line and certainly not welcome here. Please refrain from such a tone.
FSU prez T.K. Wetherell uses Tim Tebow in ridiculous hypothetical story
For those of you who missed it, Florida State president T.K. Wetherell went a little nutty toward the end his press conference yesterday in which he discussed the school’s appeal of NCAA sanctions taking away victories from the football team. Somehow, Wetherell dragged Tim Tebow into this mess. ...
Hey adfad,
I've changed the phrasing above to clarify -- this DOES NOT indicate the number of failed drug tests, but simply the number of tests that also had the capability to detect whether a player was using anabolic steroids.
Gators football players often tested for drugs
Florida's University Athletic Association drug-testing program issued 524 comprehensive drug tests on the Gators football team from Oct. 18, 2007 to Nov. 12, 2008, according to documents obtained from a public records request. That's almost five tests per player in less than a 13-month span. I ...
AE Banks,
This blog certainly entitles you to opinions, but you tend to make the same point consistently -- that you think Urban Meyer is "corrupt and unethical," though without much concrete proof. The Swamp Things blog encourages everyone to channel their own originality with insightful blog posts, preferably without using the word "feces," an AE Banks favorite.
Much to gain in next 24 hours for Gators recruiting
We'll soon learn about Urban Meyer's ability to close. Right now, the Gators have a solid recruiting class in place, but solid isn't usually the precedent for Florida. A top-two national ranking is. Florida has finished in the top two in each of the last four years on ESPN's recruiting rankings....
Hey Rich,
Moody could certainly be that guy; he just needs to show consistency. I know Demps and Rainey will continue to try to bulk up to handle the SEC rigors up the middle. And yes, Richardson could be a difference-maker there.
Gators recruiting: A quick outlook
As this 2009 class shapes up and Florida mixes and matches before Wednesday's signing day, I thought an all-comprehensive progress report was in order. Plenty of studs are already committed with a strong chance for more to come. OVERVIEW: The 2009 class might max out at less than 20 players bec...
Hey MM,
Haven't heard anything concrete about any of those safeties moving positions -- Major Wright would be a pretty good linebacker, but they won't move him. They like the depth they have there with Black and Hill switching in and out at strong safety. Finley can develop with time, and Munroe will earn his way back onto the field if he matches his ability from 2008 after that torn ACL. Charlie Strong likes to run them in and out, so depth can work in Florida's favor.
At 232 pounds, Beal could have the size of a DE, but I know they really liked him at linebacker before his torn ACL. And remember that Will Green and Earl Okine still need plenty of development at defensive end behind Cunningham and Dunlap and Trattou.

Hey mm,
The numbers aren't finalized with the newest coaching editions, so the September 2008 model above is for comparative purposes.

Florida vs. Tennessee coaches...A salary breakdown
Tennessee is giving its coaches the penthouse treatment, which is to be expected when you have an assistant coach such as Monte Kifffin, an NFL legend. The university announced this week that Kiffin will make $1.2 million per year (plus a $300,000 year-end incentive) as defensive coordinator and...
Rich,
Thanks for the comment. Hunter started the year with back problems, then sprained his ankle and reaggravated the back later on in the year. From about the fourth game on, coaches decided to redshirt him, but they certainly thought in early 2008 he would be a game-changer from the beginning. So we need to give him a full spring and preseason to show us what he can really do.
Gators get Harvard credentials with new tight ends coach
Florida coach Urban Meyer has hired former Washington assistant Brian White as his new tight ends coach to replace John Hevesy, the university confirmed today. White, the Huskies' tight ends/special teams coach last season, is a Harvard grad, so he's wicked smart. And he already knows what ...
Gator4Life,
Thanks for the comments. I don't care how good Janoris Jenkins is, Wondy is pure disappointment because he went from starter to special teams player. He at least could have worked to crack the nickel package like Markihe Anderson did.
Torrey Davis has had his issues, but you can't complain with a guy who becomes a reliable backup on a depleted front line and makes a goal-line stop in the national title game. John Brown and Omar Hunter certainly didn't do that, and despite injuries, they probably could have affected this year if they fought through them and worked hard to get back. None of their injuries merit an "out for season" prognosis.
And from what I heard, Emmanuel Moody didn't start getting credit from coaches until later in the year because it took him forever to A) learn how to work through injuries, and B) block well. Demps got that right off the bat, and that's why he was on the field. Moody's going to be a great player here, I believe, but let's just say he had a rough sophomore yeawr.
These Seven Gators need a good spring
As the 2008 season and the NFL draft deadline for underclassmen are behind us, we can now give this basketball team plenty of love. But there's always time to lend a few words to some football players who need to come into next season looking sharp and ready to go. Here are seven guys who didn't...
Hey folks,
I'll change the headline. Sorry for the confusion.

Dear Jay,
I heard that as well, and I checked with the school's registrar office, but every athlete's scholarship information is set on private. There's no way for a reporter to formally check because of it.
Still no press conference set for Spikes, Harvin
Since today's blogs are in 3-D (Dreaded Deadline Day) concerning the NFL draft, nothing will go untouched. We will let you know once -- or if, at this point -- a press conference or press release is scheduled for the futures of Percy Harvin and Brandon Spikes. It's a cold, quiet morning in Gai...
Good call, folks. I certainly meant $3.25 million. That's pretty funny.

MM,
Epps is out for the season with a torn ACL from earlier in the year, Estopinan isn't really a factor anymore and John Brown's been nursing a hand/wrist injury all year and is ineligible to play (probably a redshirt). They've really taken a lot of lumps at this position but remain consistent. D-line coach Dan McCarney has done a phenomenal job.
Can Florida's depleted D-line hold up against Alabama's wall?
With backup DT Brandon Antwine now out of this game with a torn ACL, Florida has an uphill battle on its hands from the interior defensive line spot. Starters Lawrence Marsh and Terron Sanders are solid players and in place for this game, but with Antwine and Matt Patchan (torn MCL) out for the ...
Hey that guy,
Thanks for the comment. No doubt there is blowout potential here, as evidenced by what Florida has done to the last seven teams they've played. But I think the Georgia game was unique in that Florida had so much built-in tension that it unleashed on one big day. In this case, when you mix a confident Florida State team with the deep-rooted tradition this rivalry possesses, FSU will come with enough thunder to make it interesting. Just not enough to win.

Gators as 14-point favorite over FSU is accurate
The latest Vegas lines have Florida 14 points over Florida State, and I think that's just about right. For once, the Gators won't have a blowout on their hands. They'll get hit in the mouth early by a hungry FSU team that is teeming with confidence after a 37-3 win over Maryland. And blowouts in...
