"When Balak son of Zippor, the king of Moab, prepared to fight against Israel, he sent for Balaam son of Beor to put a curse on you. But I would not listen to Balaam, so he blessed you again and again, and I delivered you out of his hand." Joshua 24:9-10 (NIV) Reflecting back over my life and ministry, I can see clearly that I have allowed Satan to hinder my effectiveness, in one way or another, more often than I would like to admit. In fact, if I am being honest, I think it's a fair statement, to say... Continue reading

This is a great harmony of the Gospels. I have been using the print edition for many years. This is one of my favorite books. I don't think it's possible to study the Gospels, too much. Here is a link to a review of this book that I did previously - A Harmony of the Gospels. This usually sells for $9.99 but until December 30, 2014 Amazon is selling the Kindle edition for $0.99. When I saw this I had to get a copy for myself and thought I'd share it with you as well. Merry Christmas. Continue reading

"Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, that I may honor you." Psalms 86:11 NLT The Psalmist expresses a spiritual truth that is difficult for us to truly understand--we are only able to really honor God through the Holy Spirit working in us and through us. Our natural and learned behaviors tend to be more focused toward self and are completely inadequate. It is only by surrendering ourselves, completely to the power and control of God that we are able to think and live in ways that bring... Continue reading

"Then Jesus said to him, "See that you don't tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."" Matthew 8:4 (NIV) In part 1, I shared some of my experiences with overcoming fears that kept me from sharing my faith and some things I have learned along the way. In this post, I will discuss testimonies and some objections, or excuses, people have to sharing their faith with someone. A testimony can be spoken words or silent actions. In the verse above, Jesus tells a man he healed to... Continue reading

Eunike, Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I am always encouraged when I read the comments of people who share what God is doing in their lives--especially about honoring God since that is dear to my heart. Also, it is a blessing to know God has used something I wrote to encourage you. I pray you will be blessed as you continue to pursue your goal of honoring God. God is truly, worthy of all honor and glory.

"Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen of me and what I will show you." Acts 26:16 (NIV) Jesus spoke these words to Paul on the road to Damascus but they are no less true for you and me. Jesus wants us to be witnesses to people around us about the amazing love of God. Regardless of your vocation or situation in life, everyone has the ability (and the obligation) to share what God has done for them. Jesus... Continue reading

“Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.” Psalm 32:1 NIV This morning I experienced a coincidence that I would like to share with you. Actually, I don’t believe it was a coincidence, but rather, a God-incidence. Let me explain what I mean. I always read from a daily Bible which is divided into daily readings from the Old Testament, Psalms, Proverbs, and the New Testament. I also, typically, read from other devotional material throughout the day. I have been reading the whole Bible through, each year like this, since 1991. I don’t tell you this to... Continue reading

Diane, Thanks for sharing and standing against these forms of abuse. They are truly an epidemic in our society. Sharing your story with others is an important way to help others while, at the same time, helping yourself heal. I pray for God's blessings on you and your efforts to serve God. I will be praying for you.

I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did. These guys are looking very young. It's interesting to see the members of the group aging and changing over the years. But, there is no doubt, they are great musicians and have played a large role in making the... Continue reading

My first reaction to this question is, "I'm not a fanatic." In my mind, a fanatic is a person who is so extreme in their thinking, attitudes, and behavior that they are not in touch with reality. We can all think of some characters we have seen portrayed as fanatics in movies or on TV. They almost always behave in bizarre and irrational ways. Comparing myself to this, I'm not even close to being a fanatic, at least, I don't think I am. As it turns out, my definition is not that far from the truth, in some ways, that... Continue reading

I sincerely hope you have an amazing Christmas and a very happy New Year. Here is a great version of the Christmas hymn "In the Bleak Midwinter" by Tine Thing Helseth. This is a nice, simple, but beautiful arrangement with a harp, a violin, and of course trumpet. In this... Continue reading

Jacqui, Thanks for sharing your experience with us. It is encouraging to hear from others who share the same problems, but, even more encouraging to hear from people who share the same solution. Our relationship with God is the solution for all of us. We are made righteous because through Jesus we are in a "right" relationship with God, not by anything we have done but by the amazing grace of God. God bless you Jacqui and your family.

Koifishy, I believe you are dealing with very common concerns. Many people struggle with similar questions. I believe God gives us the opportunity to live our life the way we want to. We call this free will. God chooses not to force us to follow His will because he wants us to love him. He wants us to follow His lead in our lives because we love Him and trust Him not because we fear Him. We should fear His judgment if we choose not to receive Jesus as LORD and Savior. But, if we are saved, we don't need to fear God's wrath which makes it possible to have an intimate relationship with Him that is based on love rather than fear. The other thing is we need to come to realize that God's will for our lives is the best possible life we can live. As I mentioned in the original post, God says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11. I have made the choice to try to live the way God wants me to live since I believe God's will for my life is the best possible life I can live. So, we can follow our own inclinations but that may not be the very best plan for our life. Let me clarify that a little. If we are living for God and redeemed by the blood of Jesus then our own inclinations will be more likely to line up with God's will for us (more on this in a minute). If we are not living for God our inclinations will be more self-serving and not likely to follow God's will since we are being influenced more by the world and evil forces that are at war with God. Another thought is God created us and He gave us the desires and skills we have. Check out this passage from Psalms 37:4-6 NIV 'Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. [5] Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:[6] He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn." God gives us desires (inclinations) when He creates us. If we delight ourselves in Him and trust Him enough to follow His will, He will fulfill the desires of our heart. So, the desires of our heart line up with the will of God for our lives if we choose to seek Him and trust Him. I hope that answers some of your questions. God bless you and your search for understanding of God and His will for you.

Very well said, Vanessa. He is worthy of all honor. When I read your comment it reminded me of the verse, Revelation 4:11, NIV: "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being." I agree with you. I live to honor God because He is worthy of all glory and honor. Thanks for your comment. God bless.
