Marketing email I just got: "Do you ever wonder which apps influencers (like yourself), celebrities, or Jersey Shore castmates have on their phones?" My response:
Someone on twitter asked, "When does the pile up end?" I responded: "You earn a pile-up when you conduct business badly."

A lot of you know that I absolutely love Jenny Lawson, The Bloggess. I love her so much, I gave her a picture of me collating paper to send to PR idiots who spam her with stupid product pitches. Jenny makes me furiously happy, so when I read on her blog last night that a PR douchebag called her...

I think Jenny should change her twitter bio to that.

I couldn't agree more. As a PR professional, I saw A LOT of things wrong with the BrandLink strategy - far beyond a mistaken reply-all.
In my professional opinion, here was the real #PRFail: http://www.theoneinheels.com/2011/10/putting-on-my-pr-shoes.html

Cool Camera Bag Giveaway!
It's been a common complaint for us DSLR-toting ladies: traditional camera bags are ugly, unwieldy,
Wow. I've heard people talking about these bags and now I see why! I really, really want that Paris bag. I'm going to be traveling to Toronto for my birthday and it would look so great on that trip!

Crazy, Stupid Love - The Movie - AND the Interview

There was an ad for this on tv last night & Chip mentioned to me that he thought it looked like a good movie. I just need to know if we really do get to see Ryan Gosling's abs in it.

I find my migraines to be protein-related sometimes too. Are you not taking anything for prevention? As often as you get them, I'd think they'd have you on something for prevention & not just treatment.
Defective
Sometimes I hate my body. This is one of those weeks. Last week, I posted about the hives I've had off and on for more than a month. I went to the dermatologist (I was due for a skin check for the melanoma) and she gave me a shot of prednisone. She told me that the hives would go away and that t...
There's a lot of old hair band songs that would qualify for me I think. It makes me roll my eyes and go "ugh" when it comes on the radio. Also that ghetto trash Ke$ha. So not cute.
Worst.Song.EVAH
There's always a lot of talk on what's the BEST SONG EVER - but what is the worst? The song that, when you hear it on the radio makes you scream out in agony. The song that gets stuck in your head and drives you crazy when you wake up at 3 a.m. and can't go back to sleep. For me, it'd be a toss ...

Here wait...allow me to show you my fleur de lis tattoo.
(I botched your poll though. I tried to vote "YAY FOOTBALL!" but it told me I couldn't vote twice. Which leads me to believe I accidentally "boo football sux." Which shouldn't surprise you. Us Saints fans are all ass-backwards that way.
Oh, How I LOVE This Time of Year!
Beyond going back to school, more than "It's warm enough to go to the beach while everyone is at school", greater than fall fruits and veggies, more enjoyable than crisp cool evenings and certainly more pleasurable than wearing jeans and clogs: It's FOOTBALL TIME! Tell me, what do you think...
When I get overwhelmed like that, I often have the fantasy that my brakes give out or my steering column fails or something and my car smashes into a tree and I end up in the hospital for weeks at least, maybe months, on all kinds of great painkillers, where everybody has to take care of ME.
My AA sponsor tells me that's not normal.
Fantasy Island
When I was a kid, I watched Fantasy Island. A little bit. Not too much, because, hello, it was really above my comprehension. But I thought watching it meant I was cool and grown up, and so I stuck with it. One of the companies that my husband works for sends us away every year. It's a fantastic...
Okay, but you really should read To Kill a Mockingbird. It is really, really good writing and I re-read it every year.
Sixes
I'm so tired I can't think straight. The first day of school went very well, except for the one part that didn't. BUT. Tomorrow is another day. I can't seem to think straight, and so I am once again falling victim to the dreaded "OMG, she's doing a meme AGAIN" that everyone hates. I promise to g...
True dat. We spent the week of the Fourth at a beach house in Destin. I've been vacationing in Destin for 20 years & I've never seen it so empty. Great for us (we also negotiated a great deal on the house), but sad for the area's economy.
Serving Gulf Coast Culture
I am writing this article from a coffee shop on the shore of Mobile Bay in Alabama. We are on vacation, an effortless hour east of our home in Gulfport, Mississippi. The kids and I are spending the month of July at a beach house, conveniently toting ourselves back and forth across the Gulf Coas...

Interesting. I would have voted that her act did indeed cause the death. Like you said - it's about the age. The driver was a minor, which means he wasn't mature enough to make the decision whether or not to drive in his state, WHICH IS WHY WE DON'T GIVE ALCOHOL TO MINORS.
Contributing To Delinquency? Or Contributing To Death?
The blame game. It's part and parcel of our litigious society. When a wrong is committed, we want someone to blame. But what happens when the facts aren't so cut and dry? How do we know who to blame when there's more than one party that could potentially be held accountable? In Florida the b...

Excellent post.
I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast about 45 minutes from NOLA. Back then, the drinking age in Miss. was 18 for beer & wine, 21 for liquor. But in Louisiana it was 18 for everything. Needless to say, we drove across state lines to drink on the weekends; we were lucky none of us were killed. So I can see the reasoning for having all states be the same age. Louisiana was the last state to raise to 21 (for obvious reasons) and Rose is exactly right - the Federal govt withheld highway funds from states that didn't go all 21. I think it's ridiculous, for all the reasons you stated in your post.
I'm totally twittering this post.

Minimum Drinking Age is Unconstitutional and Does More Harm Than Good
Did you know that almost every country has a minimum drinking age of 18, if they even have one at all. Did you also know that the minimum drinking age in the United States was always 18 until 1984? The law almost didn't pass because there was a very heated fight in Congress over passing this ...
Oh! I just love reading from so many others who love Dr. Jack as we do! Shelly - we'll be looking for the info on that art opening!!
End of an Era in Memphis Pediatrics
Today, my son saw his pediatrician for the very last time. No, we're not being graduated. After more than 60 years of treating Memphis's children, Dr. Jack Segal is retiring. We selected Dr. Segal to be Elijah's pediatrician because he had been my husband's pediatrician. He came to examine El...
Thanks, W. I can't take any credit for his love of science, but I'm certainly grateful for it.
Sixteen
The other night I was watching television with my husband and that car commercial came on. You know the one — where the kid's toys grow life size and take the car out for a night on the town. And Chip, my husband, says to me, "Do you know what those are supposed to be?" And I'm all, "They're t...
Don't be too hard on yourself. I imagine the frustration and powerlessness you feel from your husband's illness needs an outlet. I suspect it's not so much that you're personally angry about your brother's news, so much as it's an opportunity for a lot of previously "stuffed" emotions to come bubbling to the surface.
Emotions are God-given. Give yourself permission to FEEL them — whatever they are — and then give yourself permission to move on. You're going to be okay. X
I Can't Write About This On My Blog
PSST - check out Scrutiny, where I'm giving away some amazing gifts, including Visa gift cards, a Picnic Basket and an AfterSchool Packet! You might need to scroll down a bit, but there's great stuff to be found! While I'm away enjoying the surf and sand of Grand Cayman - thank you SO much to my...

"For years I had my hair parted down the middle in a ponytail, tucked down around the sides... Well, I went and cut the bangs, and I've been wearing them ever since. They say it's my trademark." Bettie Page, pinup girl What is it with little girls' hair? And why do moms seem to care so much...
I have long said that the hardest part of parenting is the letting go. Sounds like you've gotten pretty good at it. X
Just Landed: Adventures in Letting Go
Like most young moms, I used to worry when my little ones walked around the corner to their friends' houses. Then it was the bike riding concern. Before I knew it they were behind the wheel of a car and as my husband jumped forward shouting, "Be Careful!" on my daughter's 17th birthday as she ...
