Last week I had the pleasure of teaching a one on one workshop to the talented vegan food blogger, clinical nutritionist, and cookbook author, Gena Hamshaw, of Choosing Raw. It was such a pleasure to share photo tips and tricks with Gena, all the while taking pictures of beautiful vegan dishes prepared by Naturally Delicious. These private photo sessions I teach are unique as I can really focus on specific aspects of photography and styling particular to the one attendee. The attendee brings his/her own camera(s) – film cameras or digital cameras, or both. It’s less about what I want... Continue reading

I had the pleasure of photographing Abby and Jon's exquisite late summer wedding which took place at a stunning private residence in the Hamptons. Abby and Jon exchanged vows in the gardens, framed by lush greenery, reflection pools, a fruiting peach orchard, and a mesmerizing garden labyrinth. I am thankful for all of the talented artists (the planners, the designers, the caterers, the musicians, etc) and to the couple's wonderful families who came together to make this stunning event come together. Lauren and Benoit were married on Block Island, Rhode Island this summer, on her family's beautiful seaside property. It had been about 15 years since I was last on the island – I visited while I was a student at RISD, and so it was especially nice to be back amongst Block Island's laid back culture and cool ocean breeze after so many years. Lauren and Benoit enjoyed a quiet moment before their rehearsal dinner, taking a stroll by the Southeast Lighthouse as the sun was beginning to set. It's these magical moments when the light is just right and... Continue reading

It is always an honor for me to photograph a friend's wedding. I first met Jennie a few years ago at The Clay Pot, a jewelry store in my Brooklyn neighborhood of Park Slope. For years I would visit and buy small gifts for myself and others. I'd often gaze at the gorgeous, unique hand-crafted wedding rings in the back room. It was, and still is, a very special place to me. My husband proposed to me in Hawaii with a ring from The Clay Pot. Chandler and I ended up purchasing our wedding bands there too - a lovely... Last week I hosted another food photography workshop in Brooklyn. My previous workshops were so enjoyable, I was really looking forward to working with this new group. We started the day off meeting at Naturally Delicious' newly renovated space called PDR (Private Dining Room). Chef owner, Loren Michelle, and her talented staff prepared and styled both delicious and beautiful plates for us to photograph, including some lovely cocktails. Thank you to those who were able to attend! We had a great turn out, and I was so pleased to meet my attendees--some of which traveled to Brooklyn from Pennsylvania, New... Continue reading

Last month, wedding season started with a bang! I photographed a gorgeous, joy-filled 3-day Indian wedding in New York, and since then it's been shoot after shoot. This week, I am posting a series of food + party images from a recent collaboration between my team and Naturally Delicious in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. Naturally Delicious is the professional home of chef and food stylist, Loren Michelle. Loren and I have a mutual appreciation for delicious food and beautiful imagery, and we enjoy collaborating whenever possible, whether it be on weddings or food photography workshops. When she told me that she... Continue reading

A while back I posted about a cookbook project I was a part of last year. The final product turned out so well, I decided to share more images from this delicious shoot. The recipes and images are full of fresh ingredients--perfect for preparing and sharing this spring and summer. This is the third cookbook I've shot. It's been described as a "Brooklyn-hipster-centric" project, and as a Brooklyn resident who likes to eat--I love that title. It was a pleasure to work with Lee Frank and Rachel Anderson, of Nachos NY, on this project. Just a heads up--you will probably... Continue reading

Happy May Day everyone! I had the pleasure of photographing Camille and Jonathan’s wedding last year in May 2013. As I was looking through their images again almost a year later, one thing particularly strikes me--and that is the warmth they feel towards one another and towards their children--so beautifully evident in their faces throughout the ceremony and reception. They chose the Foundry in Long Island City for its intimate and rustic rooftop garden. The sprawling ivy was perfect for creating natural, lush portraits of the bride and groom. The floral arrangements were full of radiant, exploding peonies. One special... Continue reading

Hello and Happy Spring! I just returned from a beautiful Indian wedding in Locust Valley, New York. A huge affair spread over three amazing days! This week I'm busy developing film and editing images. The colors, the outfits, the emotions are all still very fresh and inspiring to me. Meanwhile 2 of my New York weddings from last year are being featured on Style Me Pretty this week! Here are pictures of Dana and Stuart's gorgeous autumn wedding at Angel Orensanz in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. James Abel Events designed and planned the wedding beautifully. From James: When... Continue reading

Happy Valentine's Day! With winter in (more than) full swing, I've been enjoying looking through the photos from Hanna and Jimm's gorgeous November wedding at The Kaaterskill in the Catskill Mountains. There was a crisp chill in the air that day, and the sumptuously muted autumnal colors of our surroundings were augmented by Sarah Ryhanen of Saipua's gorgeous floral design. The wedding was a pleasure to shoot and the velvety colors in the photographs are a nice reminder of the beauty of each season. Stay tuned for the full photographic story soon... Part 2 Last August, I had the awesome and unique experience of photographing for 3 full days in and around Santa Barbara, California, in organic tomato and corn farms, in dahlia-filled fields, farmers' markets and in a private lemon orchard. Organized by Kelly Oshiro of Santa Barbara Chic, we decided to collaborate on this farm to table shoot from long distance. I was in New York, having never visited SB before. But with phone calls and scout pics, we were able to produce something great from afar. Before I headed out west, I just knew it would be a stunning... Continue reading

It's been a couple of weeks of "down time" after my Food Photography & Styling Workshop to finally gather images together and write a recap of that awesome day. In the interim I have been delivering many weddings to happy brides and grooms who got married in September and October. I photographed my last wedding of the year in the beautiful Catskills and then traveled to Kentucky for Thanksgiving with Chandler's relatives. While I was away I received tons of praise and got sent images from my workshop attendees, thanking me for the fun time they had at my Food... Continue reading
