I told my boss that you are a fan and she wants to send you some rabbit ears or whatever you need so that you can watch Antenna TV :) Also, if you are interested in some swag, feel free to email us at affiliates@antennatv.tv.
I was twelve going on thirteen when I made the movie that changed my life
Twenty-five years ago today, on my future wife's 17th birthday, a movie I did called Stand By Me was released. I didn't know it at the time, but it would define my childhood and change my life. Here are a few things I wanted to share, to mark the occasion. I talked to NPR last week about Stand B...
We're running Stand By Me all week on Antenna TV (which would be KTLA's 5.2 channel). It is actually on TV right now and I am watching it at work. I posted a link to your blog from our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/AntennaTV. I'm a big fan of your blog:)

Hey Wil,
I'm sorry that you got sick. It sounds pretty horrible. I went to Penguicon last night to see you read. I got there at 9:30p and hung around for about 20 minutes until someone said that you weren't doing a reading and weren't coming to the convention (they still had your name on the door of the conference room, as a speaker). I asked them for a refund for me and my sister, who only went to the convention to see you speak, and they wouldn't give us a refund. I totally understand why you had to cancel, but I think it was incredibly rude of the people at Penguicon. I checked their website right before I left to go there and they still had you on their event calendar as a speaker. I'm not a fan of conventions, and would not have spent $20 per person to hang out there. I felt a little gypped. I know you probably can't do anything about it anyway, but I just wanted you to know that is how Penguicon rolls, I guess.
Hope you feel better,
Kari
To everyone at Penguicon:
My friend, editor, and partner in crime, Andrew, is at Penguicon right now, and he's graciously agreed to be a substitute me for the weekend. I asked him if he'd read the following at the opening ceremonies tonight. If we timed it right, he should be reading this right now: A few years ago, I ha...
Hi Wil,
You took down your Eventful widget for Penguicon. I was just wondering if you were still coming to Detroit this weekend??
LA Daily: Miniature Golf and the Goddamn Volcano Hole
Having realized my own creative limitations, my contributions to the LA Daily will now be bi-weekly, instead of weekly. Let's all celebrate with this week's story, which appears to be about playing minigolf with my wife. "Fucking Pagoda hole. That was bullshit. The volcano hole will be the gre...
Thanks for the ACLU links. That actually helped me out a lot. You are definitely doing your part in making our nation better (that sounded cheesy, but it's true). I'm one of those "notoriously unreliable" "younger voters" that needed a kick in the ass to get to the polls. But with a little prodding from you and Facebook, I got my lazy ass out there and voted. Happy Election Day, Wil!
one last time . . .
I want my country back, and I want the despicable campaign of hate, fear, lies, and division run by John McCain and personified by Sarah Palin to be repudiated by a massive Obama win. We can make this happen. The polls all say we're going to make this happen . . . but I remember 2000 and I re...

I was doing my tri-daily run through my fav websites and all of a sudden I could do nothing but bust up laughing when I clicked on WWdN and that picture popped up. Absolutely classic:)
egad, a base tone denotes a bad age
WWdN reader Katie D. was inspired by yesterday's audiobook post, and sent me this incredibly awesome piece of art: Several readers sent me this story from the Mail Tribune about some of Stand By Me's locations. If you are up in Southern Oregon, and you want to see some of the train tracks and ...

I hope your part 2 isn't a Bogus Journey:) I really enjoyed reading this. I had a few laughing out loud moments. Can't wait for the sequel.
anne and wil's excellent new york adventure, part one
My friends Kathleen and Atom got married to each other last week, and Anne and I went to New York for their wedding. It's the first time I've been to New York and the first time Anne and I have been able to go anywhere together for more than two days in forever, so I decided to keep business to ...

I guess I'm a "true fan". I never really thought about it before, but I did drive 12 hours to go to one of your readings. I spend about $50 a month on completely unnecessary crap, so I'm sure if you sold some cool shirts/mugs/mouse pads I'd be right there in line to buy. The key to suckering us into the $100 per year range, is to release new things throughout the year and not all at once. We're more likely to buy lots of stuff and stay interested that way. Just something to keep in mind while you're making plans.
in which i have a new challenge, and a new goal
I worry a lot. It's in my nature, and my doctors tell me that if I can't stop worrying so much, I'll have hypertension and high blood pressure. In fact, I'm already on my way there, and it's one of the main reasons I felt so lousy while I tried to recover from sinus surgery. More than anything e...

It's great to have you back, Wil. Drink a Guinness for me:)
breathe . . . breathe in the air
Hey, want to have some fun? Take a look at your nose. See how normally-sized it is? Pretty small and stuff, right? Maybe a few centimeters across? This afternoon, my doctor pulled two plastic splints out of mine, each the about one-and-a-half times the size of a silver dollar and shape of a sm...

Definite Yes! T-shirt & mug. Please make one SFW. That's where I usually represent for your hawesomeness.
Is anyone interested in WWdN merchandise?
Before I put in the time and effort to make some new WWdN merchandise for the WWdN CafePress store, I'm looking for a show of hands: is anyone interested in some WWdN gear, like T-shirts and stuff? I don't have the time or desire to run a store myself, or take the risk of buying a lot of stock a...

I was totally not expecting that awesome ending. You are such a good suspense writer:) I jumped up and told my nearest co-worker, who replied, "Kari, you're funny" (translate: you are a huge nerd, but I don't think nerds are cool so I'm just gonna say you're funny). I love Numb3rs!! I have a poster up from the show in my cubicle (of course, I work at CBS so that really doesn't count). I haven't watched the show in a while, so this will give me a reason to start watching it again. I <3 David Krumholtz. Geeks rule!! Now I'm going to call my sister so she can freak out, too.
Congrats!!
and now for something completely different
There was a time when I called myself an actor/writer. Then I realized that, saying it aloud, I was calling myself an actor, slash writer. While I suppose this would be immensely appealing to some people, it's not how I wish to be remembered by history, so I made an effort to call myself a write...

I'm so very excited that you auditioned for The Sarah Connor Chronicles. It is THE show I am looking forward to seeing this year (I'm bummed that it's mid-season, though). Summer Glau from Firefly and Thomas Dekker from Heroes. You cannot go wrong there.
I just finished listening to your PAX speech and I enjoyed it quite a bit (and I'm not even a gamer). I wanted to see what people were saying about it on the internet and holy crap! you're being cited as the most awesome gamer ever (I mean, I always knew you were awesome, but look at all these new people who are totally agreeing). I am so excited for you and I hope the whole PAX experience opens up a lot of opportunities for you.
You have to let us know as soon as you find out about the audition. I'm on the edge of my seat (and I called my sister, right away, to make sure she was on the edge of her seat, too:)
just a (geeky) audition
I had an audition this morning for a multi-episode arc on The Sarah Connor Chronicles. It's the first audition I've had in I don't even know how long, and it was early enough to directly conflict with the writer's hours I've been keeping for much of this year. Of course, Pasadena had the biggest...

Okay, this is my second comment to this post (the first one made me late for work--thanks a lot Wil:). I love that people came out of the woodwork to support you. Twenty-somethings love you more than any of those thirty-somethings ever will. We never hated you. You just need to be yourself and talk about what you're passionate about. I read your blog and I don't have all that much in common with you (not a parent, not a gamer, not a poker player, but I do watch Heroes). I still get what you say and if I don't, I still read it and its interesting because your interested in it (I was paraphrasing something that you paraphrased once).
This got really long. My point is (yes I have one), please stick with your original speech, because it will let your you-ness shine through.
PAX Panic
I was always nervous about speaking at PAX, because I'm 35, I don't play FPS or MMORPG games, and the younger gaming generation has probably never heard of me, other than via the mob at Digg, which isn't the best introduction in the world. I thought I was talking to a crowd with an average age o...

Hey Wil, I'm 25 and read your blog daily and bought all your books and drove 12 hours to see you speak. Now that I sound like a complete nutjob, my point is, you are completely relevant to my generation and I think you should stick with your original speech. Good luck and chill:)

This comment has nothing to do with this blog, but were you aware that the ad on your page is for Bill O'Reilly's "Culture Warrior". So...I'm very, very frightened. Just thought you would like to be scared along with the rest of us.
in which I buy some games to play with my family
So after I got the kids from school, I took a list and went to my friendly local game shop (Game Zone, in Pasadena, close enough to walk to Comics Factory, and Gold Line friendly, if you're local and the goddamn wind hasn't blown you into Orange County¹) Game Empire is about 2/3 open gaming area...
