Hi Helga
Fraid I don't have any experience with Lye so cannot advice you on this. My main reason for recommending Saicos Colour Wax Classic White transparent would imho do both things (showing the grain and preventing the pine turning orange) in one go, plus is easy to apply. You can decide also to apply 2 coats of the white to deepen the "colour" before applying the final one coat of HardWaxOil.
If you have left over pieces you could test this with the 0.125 ltr tester tin? Although not shown online, they are available at £ 4.50 ex VAT ex delivery charges.
HWO can be used on any untreated (and Saicos even on pre-oiled) interior wooden fixings and furniture
Hope this helps?

Wooden Flooring Finish: oil or lacquer? Advantages and Disadvantages
One of the hardest questions to answer is: what makes a better finish, lacquer or oil/HardWaxOil? First of all it’s down to personal taste and secondly to what is expected of the floor, e.g. easy maintenance, shiny look or natural appearance of the wood. Historical the wax floor is still seen ...
Hi Alex
Thank you for your question.
Standard, a pre-oiled floor comes in satin-mat finish, not too shiny and
not too mat.
Have you checked out our Basic Floor ranges?

Hi Helga
Difficult question to answer to be honest, we're more into Oak floors and all the colour charts are based on samples of Oak, not pine.
The colour Wax Classic (more a thin oil than a wax) White transparent could work, applying one or two coats, followed by Saicos Premium HardWaxOil in a sheen of your choice.
The main differences between Saicos and Blanchon is the products used to produce the HardWaxOils (Saicos has fewer Linseed oil than Blanchon, so the - Oak - boards take a while longer to turn their natural honey colour shade), the price and the usages.
With every order of finishing products we included the instructions of use and also always add our maintenance leaflet.
Hope this helps?

Hi Pascal
Any floor that has been sanded needs a finish, which one is down to
personal preferences. We are "oil-people", so would suggest a HardWaxOil

Hi Krissy
Try to undercut the curved bottom stair and slide the last row underneath. If that is not possible, do leave an expansion gap in front of it and "fill it" with transparent silicon

How to lay a wooden floor: Keep it Simple

Hi Ian
IMHO your floor needs a bit of TLC in the form of a maintenance polish. Oil is only ever needed if you sand down the floor. Did the floor supplier or installer not leave you with a maintenance leaflet or care instructions?
See our special page on suitable maintenance products.

Hi Kiran
The Blanchon Golden Oak HardWaxOil will give you a darker floor, but only comes in satin-mat
Other, frequently applied, options would be to apply one coat of Saicos Colour Wax Oak
followed by one coat of Saicos Premium HardWaxOil, sheen High Gloss

Hi there
Sanding before you install them might get rid of any original finish, but you might end up with height differences meaning you still have to sand again.
Sanding a herringbone should not be a problem - it's never for us - when you follow the normal sanding steps, as described here

Discovering a Oak parquet floor - how to restore?
One of the questions we received last week: Dear Wood You Like I have just discovered under carpet a floor of oak wood blocks (in a herringbone pattern and in a generally good condition). The location is the hallway (approximately 9 square meters). 80% of the blocks were loose so I have lifted t...
Hi Lauri
Thank you for your question.
Colours are down to personal taste, if the Golden Oak is too dark to your liking I could recommend Rustic Oak, slightly lighter. Available in tester pots
As for the difference between new boards and old: you could try experimenting with one coat colour on existing boards, followed by one coat natural and two coats colour on the new boards.
Hope this helps

Hi Tom
The problem with all dark colours (and also some of the very light ones) is that they contain rather lot of solid pigment. Applying this in a factory is hardly ever a problem, doing it manually with DIY tools is always tricky and often results in a patchy appearance.
Although colour choice is down to personal preference, only if you have a decent and heavy enough "buffing machine" to spread out the HWO directly after applying it, I would not recommend the Walnut for you.
What you can do is apply two coats of Golden Oak to intensify the colour. Some people prefer just a hint of colour on pine to prevent it going orange and they tend to apply the Golden Oak only as first coat, followed by a second coat of the natural HWO.
Hope this help

Hi Tom
Smoked Oak is a very difficult colour to apply and could stain just the grain - not the whole board - resulting in a patchy result. It works great on Oak boards, pine however reacts quite differently to these darker colours, Golden Oak being an exception to be honest.

Hi Tom
Walnut can turn it rather dark I must say. We normally recommend to use Blanchon's Golden Oak on pine boards, given it an authentic and warm colour without getting too dark or turning orange over time.

Hi Tricia
It is quite common when you apply a clear finish to pine boards these boards turn organcy - a characteristic of this wood-species (where Oak turns honey-colour).
You could sand it lightly and apply a coat of colour. Normally the first coat should be colour, which would stain the boards darker. Applying a colour over a natural coat might give it not such a dark colour as when done the right way round, but at least it will disguise the orange look.
Hope this helps

Hi Frank
If I understand correctly, your 5-finger mosaic measures 7.62cm x 5 = 38.10 by 38.10cm in a tile of 4 by 4 blocks of 5-fingers?
Is there a possibility you lift fingers in an unobtrusive part of the floor to fill in the 0.6 sq m which I guess is in full view and use the different size new fingers as a kind of border around the floor?
Hope this helps?

Hi Julian
Thank you for your comment and question. We used to use Osmo in the past too - before switching first to Blanchon (same usages and price as Osmo, but easier to apply) until we discovered Saicos products. Osmo is too easily applied too thick, if you know how to handle that there is no problem, but most DIY-ers are on their hand and knees with a cloth and are not using a heavy buffing machine to spread the oil out better.
Saicos gives more value for money (higher coverage) and absolutely easy to apply. All of our DIY-clients rave about it, I could fill our blog every week with thank you's and stories on how easy they all find it, plus how the floor (specially with restoration projects on tropical wood-species) really comes into its right.
I'm just about to add another product (all the colours available in the Colour Wax Classic range) to our online shop, as alternative to the Blanchon Coloured HardWaxOil products. The Colour Wax - thin oil really, still think something got lost in translation ;-)) - also highly suitable for furniture.

Thank you for your question.
If the wood is unfinished you apply two coats of Saicos HardWaxOil (4 sheens to choose from: ultra-mat, mat, satin-mat and high gloss):
Brings out the natural colour of the wood, protects against dirt and drips and easy to maintain.
Hope this helps
