I've never been to Serres although it's only a 3-hour drive from my hometown in Thrace. I'll put Serres down on my priority list of top Greek cities to visit next time I'm in Greece. My husband is Canadian but he loved spending Easter in Thrace with my family. We also had lamb on the spit and thracian sausages, of course!

When I look at your Easter photos, I miss home so much. I am so glad hubs and I are flying back to Greece to celebrate Easter with my family. He has also read your blog...so he knows more or less what to expect! :-) My family in Greece go to church every single day of the Holy Week. Then we get the Holy Communion on Thursday morning after fasting for at least 4 days. My family fast for 40 days during all the Lent period. Mom makes the magiritsaon Holy Saturday so that it's ready to eat soon after Anastasis at 12 midnight. Then Dad with my brother and uncles will prepare the Easter lamb for Easter Sunday. I like my life in Canada but I miss my family so much!!! Especially at Easter. Thank you so much for this wonderful post which brings back our customs and traditions.

I think we all had to face moral dilemmas. My greatest moral dilemma was whether or not to leave my family in Greece and follow my Canadian husband in Canada. I decided to follow my husband, it took me a long time to adapt to a completely different lifestyle,and I still can't say I am an integral part of the community here. I miss my family, my country, my friends but I followed the man I love in his country. I have never regretted it but I miss my country and my family so much. It wasn't a question of choice, to me it was a question of ethics and where my heart belongs. I decided that it belongs to my wonderful husband in the first place. And I do visit my family once a year, I wish I could visit more often. I am also glad because my family accepted my choice and supported it - this makes me feel less guilty. And I have stopped to think of the alternatives!

I am going to celebrate Valentine's Day with that wonderful Canadian husband of mine! I'll send him a...romantically mysterious card at his workplace and as soon as I get back from work I will prepare a very special dinner which I call "Valentine's Love Spell" :-) I so love your photos. Oh there are so many things I love doing in my leisure time. I like gym, tennis, skiing, travelling and hiking. But there are times when I just feel like staying home, listening to music or watch tv.
