I haven't looked at the old rulebooks in forever, and we didn't play the published modules enough to form too many lasting memories, but what gets me is occasionally flipping through my PC folder. I've managed to save every PC I ever played (plus the far larger that I wrote up thinking I would want to play them someday). That's where all my memories lie. But I'll have crack open my Red Box books and Keep on the Borderlands someday soon, too.

My first thought after seeing the episode was of a t-shirt. It would have a cartoony image of a bunny smashed by a rock - little enchanted "fairy dust" effect still floating up, with the caption "Game Over, Moon Pie!". Now if there's someone with talent who could draw that up, I'd me all over it as well. :)

I'm guessing it was Tor, but Charles Stross mentioned on his blog being asked to write about the launch. His reply was "sure, but I was only four years old at the time ..." :) Personally, I was -4 at the time, but I think his recollection probably isn't much different than mine.

One of the times my family went to Florida for vacation we went to the Kennedy Space Center where they had (if I recall correctly) the original mission control computer equipment from the Apollo days. They have a show where they play the original audio from one of the launches (illuminated the station that was doing the talking), and at lift-off, the windows even glow orange, and rattle from the rumbling of the rocket. For many it was just kinda cheesy, but personally I actually teared up a bit and it was a really incredible experience almost feeling like you were there at the historic liftoff. But I know I need to get to see a rocket launch in person someday. That has got to be amazing.

I like someone's suggestion of the Stick of Butter having Christopher Walken's voice. It fits perfectly!

Since we're sharing idiot car crash stories, there was the time some lady was talking on her cellphone (surface streets, not highway) and realized she was about to miss her turn. So she cranked the steering wheel before she bothered to slow down. Here I am, just pulling out of work like any other day when I see the roof of a SUV coming right for me. I'm talking end-over-end fully-airborne this-looks-like-a-fake-movie-effect here. I swerved into the grass and the SUV landed on its roof pretty darn near where I would have been before it tumbled over one more time to end right side up. Thankfully she was wearing her seatbelt and wasn't hurt at all. It's still surreal to picture making that same turn I made every single day for years but seeing the roof a SUV flying through the air at me.
