A tie says a lot about a man. From the color to the knot of your preference, people can pass judgment about a man based on what is around his neck. In fact, politicians have fashion consultants pick particular ties out for them based on the crowd they are attempting to appeal to. Bowties are the most bold choice of all and make a direct statement to the world that you know you look good. Skinny ties appeal best to the hipster collection and typically on smaller framed bodies. Going single or double Windsor are all you can expect to... Continue reading

There really is no need to be extravagant with suit purchases. Going above and beyond the status quo is a very ambitious move that some people can pull off, but it certainly not for everyone. As long as one keeps a few viable options at a time, he should be able to make it through a business week without days seeming like one dull black and white blur. What men really need t be worried about is overuse of suits. When they are worn in or tattered putting off buying a new one is simply not an option. If you... Continue reading

Casual days at work are one of the most misconstrued aspects of getting a job. People come in assuming that it is the same from working from home and just roll out of bed like a train wreck. It is still vital to take care of yourself on these days. If you leave the house without a collar or pants that call for a belt, you should probably turn around and change. These casual days are just opportunities to have yourself taken more seriously than other people. If looking good is an issue for you in a casual setting, consultation... Continue reading

On television and in the news you see people who buy suits, shoes and haircuts that come out to be thousands of dollars for something necessary for a day at the office. Unfortunately this pressure gets into people’s heads and they don’t realize that when you first enter the business world, doing all of this is insane. Paying a hair stylist three times as much as you normally do due to fear of not being good enough is absurd. As long as someone certified is doing it, you should be all right. As for business attire, suits come in a... Continue reading

When one imagines the American dream, it likely looks like walking into a tall building with a nicely cut suit and a briefcase in hand. For everyone who is fortunate enough to have this dream as their reality, a principle of business is fashion. “Dress for the job you want, not for the job that you have,” is an expression that should resonate with any person with aspiration to be better tomorrow than they are today. By showing people that you know how to present yourself, you have an edge on everyone else before even saying a word. A nice... Continue reading

The fashion industry is a great one to work in and be a part of for passionate, creative individuals, or simply for those who admire the style of high fashion products. Breaking into the industry requires extensive knowledge of how the business and manufacturing process works. For new designers, this can be an especially scary thing to do in the beginning. Jobs in the fashion industry typically require some experience in the business, or at a trade school, especially for those who want to show off their own designs. Learning about wholesale margins, shipping, marketing, and even advertising are all... Continue reading

Some of us are critics. Let’s face it. We love the glamor and fashion of the glossy magazines, but we wouldn’t be caught dead in some of those clothes. Instead, some of us choose to use our words to tell a story. Magazine editors have the best job in the world. They get to talk, talk, talk, about pretty much anything they want. On top of that, editors and stylists get to set up photo shoots for their magazines. Freelancing in this industry is a great way to see a lot of clients. Starting out as an editor can be... Photographers in the fashion industry seem to have it made. For the uninitiated, “clicking a button all day” seems like a relatively easy job, not to mention and easy one you get paid thousands of dollars a day for. The world’s top fashion photographers were once unknown in the industry, until they made a few crucial steps forward in regards to their success. Advertisement photography is very popular. This showcases the clothing and model effectively to try and sell a line of clothing or a particular item. To make it into the door of a top glossy magazine, you should... Continue reading

Models are the lifeblood of the fashion industry. They give designers the best chance to share their work with the public in the form of runway shoes. Becoming a model is one of the most difficult processes in the world, especially for those of us who are less than perfect. Breaking into this part of the industry can be very rewarding, however. Finding an agency is the first step in getting modeling contracts with name brand companies. Recruits are found by scouts for the agency who go out and look for the freshest young face. For those without the luxury... Continue reading

When recommending fashion magazines, I tend to give out only the most prolific and recognized. There are a few, however, that tend to escape the public eye, for whatever reason. For some, however, the reason is all too apparent, especially for avantgarde or unusual magazine themes and styles. Experimental and contemporary magazines like Beige and Anthem tell the tales of the most modern and unique designs from unknown designers and labels. These are great magazines for someone who believes in the true fashion spirit and wants to help out the small company. Culturally significant magazines such as the Swedish Bon... Continue reading
