Perhaps one of the implications for Christians is that we need to deliberately ask better questions - especially when we're considering change. Do we as a community understand what we mean by, for example, "mission" or "worship" or "community" or "fellowship"? Similarly, as vocabularies change over time and place, what do we think those outside the church understand when we use terms like "church" or "witness" or "religion" or "salvation" especially in an age of mass media where those terms are often defined for us? Could our answers to these questions about our vocabulary such open up opportunities to better understand who we are before God and how to build bridges with our fellow "pilgrims"? KC
Looking forward to following your thoughts through your new blog. I am fascinated by the subject of change in a church context myself - though confess at this point in my life I have infinitely more questions than answers. It has been an observation of mine for some time that churches, in general, haven't dealt with change well in the past 20 years...either through change initiatives (big or small) that haven't been well thought out (particularly the longer term implications), or are theologically suspect, or by situations where change was necessary, but not initiated. Yet if we as a church are following God, we ought to be the best examples of change agents to the world.
