What a wonderful story! I hope 'Snake' and Carole continue to be blissfully happy together.
Watson and the Snake Charmer
By Diane Chamberlain When I posted about being a quasi-groupie back in the day, it made me want to reconnect with my old friend Marilyn, with whom I'd shared that adventure. Marilyn and I lost touch in our late teens and I don't know her married name, so although I've searched the Internet, I ha...
Hey Wil-
Friends of mine attended ECCC and I thought you'd like to know that they enjoyed your participation greatly and said, "If Wil Wheaton is scheduled to be a guest at any convention, YOU MUST GO because he is totally worth it!"
Emerald City Comicon after action report
ECCC has officially joined PAX on the List of Conventions I Don't Ever Want To Miss. It's well-organized, staffed by competent and friendly volunteers, and has what is, in my opinion, the perfect balance of comics and popular geek culture. This year, I had to leave Saturday afternoon to fly home...
A photo of the Love Boat crew, a tesla ball, a comfy couch for reading comics, and a doggie as an armrest. What more could a man ask for, really?
good afternoon
This is one of those times when a picture is worth a thousand words.
I think the people who long for the 'good ol' days' tend to gloss over the privations they experienced. No one time could ever be as perfect as some people would have us believe.
That said, there ARE things that I experienced as a child of the mid-1970s that I think kids today are missing out on. So I do understand the nostalgia, just not the sugar-coating. And please, let us all be thankful for the fact that no one now need know when we're "on the rag" unless we choose to tell them so.
I so look forward to the perfection of successful time travel. Sure, I'd go visit those times in history that fascinate me (1940s WWII years, the antebellum South, Scotland before the Jacobite rebellion). But what I really want to revisit? My grandma, who's making fried chicken, cole slaw, and homegrown tomatoes, sliced on a plate, for supper. As many times as I've tried to recapture those flavors of my youth, I've been unsuccessful.
Excellent post, Margaret!
Those Good Ol' Days
Margaret Maron Ever since childhood, I have heard much mourning for “the good ol’ days” when life was simpler, when people had values, when you didn’t have to lock your doors, and you could buy a tomato that really was ripened on the vine. My grandmother came to this farm where I now live a...
I don't believe I've ever had any ghostly experiences, but my grandmother did. She also experienced what could only be called psychic phenomena, in the form of visions. I guess it only happened to her a couple of times, but she firmly believed in what she'd seen/heard/dreamed. She dreamed of a nephew's accident on a tractor, from halfway across the country, later confirmed by a letter from her sister. And she and her sister both claimed to have seen a shadowy figure in the house where they grew up, as well as hearing horses galloping through the creek when the could clearly see there was nothing there.
And a great uncle claimed to have seen a ghostly apparition while in Paris, in the Army. He said there was no other explanation for the shadowy figure he'd seen, as there was no one else there.
Ghost Story
Ghost Story By Nancy Pickard Once upon a time, I was struggling to figure out how to make endless hours of conversation with the nice people who were hired to drive me around during book tours. I loved almost everything else about touring--room service, the readers and bookstore peeps, room s...
Happy Anniversary, Wil & Anne. Hope there's many more where that came from.
And I love that picture! So romantic. *sigh*
to mark the passage of three thousand six hundred and fifty-three days together
We went to Napa for our tenth anniversary. For the record: being married to your best friend rules.
Wil, I'm so sorry to hear about Ferris. It's never easy to say goodbye to a pet and my heart goes out to your and your family. I'm sure she'll be deeply missed.
i can't think of a title, so i'll just say thank you
I once had a terrible case of the flu. In addition to the body aches and chills and stuff, I was puking my brains out all over the place all the time. The worst part of it was that it would happen with no warning; one second I was fine, and then I'd suddenly feel my stomach turn, and I'd be thro...
Ha ha, Jerry looks adorable in his pose there! And oh god, River looks so young and earnest it breaks my heart.
Thanks again, Wil, for sharing your memories and impressions of those times with us. You rock.
i never did national network tv interviews later on in life like the ones i did when i was twelve
When we filmed Stand By Me, none of us knew it was going to be the huge success that it became. None of us expected it to be part of that 50s revival that was so much fun in the mid-80s, and none of us knew that it would essentially launch all of our acting careers. But I think that, if you aske...
Can't wait to see you on the show-I love Leverage!
Give Christian a hard time about scarring up his forehead, ok? The man needs bubblewrapped, swear to god.
Hope you enjoy your time up there in Portland.
LEVERAGE: day zero
Greetings from Portland! I'm here for the next few days to work on an episode of Leverage, playing a character who I have a few things in common with, as evidenced by something that happened earlier today during my costume fitting. The costume designer is an incredibly kind and easy going woman....
I didn't read all the comments, but I did want to let you (and others) know that there is converter software to make PDFs readable on Kindle and other e-readers. So if you offer them the way you did Sunken Treasure, people can convert them to whatever format they might need. Just FYI.
That said, print on demand books? Oh man, I'm there. As many have already said, big box stores frequently don't have what I'm looking for. They have ten million copies of crap I wouldn't touch, but they keep shrinking down the sections and leaving out authors of the genres I do read, all in the name of having more room for the dreck. Bah!
more print-on-demand goodness
An imagined scene: You: "I'd like Just A Geek, because Wil Wheaton is funny and charming and he smells of lavender and whatever awesome smells like." Bookseller: "Oh, sorry, but the publisher promoted that as a Star Trek bio, and since those don't sell, we didn't stock it. We can order it for ...
Oh, your brother's photos are beautiful!
my awesome brother
A couple of years ago, my brother and his wife moved to a ranch in Montana, and while I miss them both every single day, my personal loss is blunted by how happy they are up there. Jeremy and I keep in touch with e-mail and phone calls and stuff, which I thought would make me miss him less, but ...
She's probably thinking, "Daaaaad, get this OFF ME. And then get me some bacon!"
from the vault: my awesome dog
When you break the world down into dog people and cat people, I guess I'm mostly a dog person, even though I've loved every cat I've ever owned. Sometimes, though, my dog tests me, like in this entry from the vault... When I was at CES [a few weeks ago] for InDigital, I got a phone call from Ann...
I follow you both here on your blog and on Twitter because you're freakin' hilarious, not because you once played Gordie or Wesley or anyone else.
Anyone who expects you to be someone you're not just to please them, well, they can go pound sand. Just keep on being your silly, geeky, family-man self!
PS: Your conversations with your iTunes? Priceless.
what to expect if you follow me on twitter (or: how I'm going to disappoint you in 6 quick steps)
Yesterday, my friend Alan tweeted a link to this story of how Twitter was born. If you use Twitter at all, you should totally check it out because it's awesome. If you don't use Twitter, you should totally check it out, because a lot of what you may have heard about Twitter is probably filtered ...
I didn't have any of the cool toys, but I did collect the cards. And also, this totally brought back memories of playing on the school playground with Tommy and Mike, who graciously allowed me to be their Princess Leia because I had long braided hair and could make the requisite buns over my ears.
Thanks for the memories!
growing up star wars
I'm from the Star Wars generation. I was the perfect age when the original movie came out, and Star Wars toys and merchandise absolutely defined my childhood. I'll never forgive George Lucas for taking one of the most important parts of my childhood and forcing me to watch while he took a giant ...
Glad to hear that Christmas in Wheatonland was considered awesome!
happy winter festival of your choice
We celebrate a non-religious, minimally-commercial version of Xmas here in Wheatonland, and the 2008 installment is awesome. Whatever you choose to celebrate this time of year, I hope it's filled with all the stuff you like, none of the stuff you don't like, and that you're surrounded by peopl...
I really enjoyed reading about your time on the set. It's really cool to hear what a great experience you had on a show that I really enjoy. It's nice to know that the people who bring us the show (actors and writers and technicals) have such a great respect for each other and really seem to like the job.
The only bad thing is that since Floyd went out in a blaze of glory, we won't get to see you on the show again!
Criminal Minds: That's a Wrap!
This is the sixth and final post about working on episode four, Paradise, during season four of Criminal Minds. I spoke with CliqueClack.com about some of my production experiences, and I have a gallery of images from the shoot at Flickr. Please note that I've done my best to recreate my interac...
Wil, you were phenomenal on CM last night! I totally expected you to be the 'good' guy. But you were a right creepy bad guy, so excellent job.
Criminal Minds: The Audition
This is the first of five posts about working on episode four, Paradise, during season four of Criminal Minds. I spoke with CliqueClack.com about some of my production experiences, and I have a gallery of images from the shoot at Flickr. Please note that I've done my best to recreate my interact...
I love Criminal Minds, so I can't wait to see your ep. And William Mapother (forever known as Ethan to this Lost geek) is scary.
