Wil, there is a way around the geographical lockouts. Leave your PC running when you go on vacation and proxy back through it (eg, a VPN.) Problem solved. Assuming of course the internet doesn't totally suck in both locations. For everyone else there are companies that own ip blocks in the US that offer the same thing for money.
