Spring in the Texas Hill Country is down right beautiful! The air smells amazing, the wildflowers are in bloom, and the skies are a clear blue color. I love this time of year and try to get my kids outside and playing as much as possible. We smell the flowers, play in dirt, and build little houses out of sticks. We run, yell, and laugh. Because we're so active and messy in the outdoors, I make sure to dress Melanie and Finn appropriately - in clothes that allow them freedom of movement and that can take a beating. It's so important to me that my kids wear clothes that can be played in but also look good and show off their personal styles. For Melanie, shorts and a colorful T-shirt are must while Finn is rocking rompers this spring. Are your kids the same way? Then I'd like to encourage you to get out there and start enjoying some #FieldsOfFun with your kids this spring plus, I'm giving you chance to win a $50 gift card from OshKosh B'gosh to buy some clothes for your own little ones! I am so glad you all stopped by to read this post. I love creating content for my audience and I really appreciate that you've stopped by to learn something new. As many of you know, like with my first child Melanie, I exclusively nursed Finn until he was six months and we've been working hard to get him used to drinking pumped breast milk from a bottle. I have some classes that I teach and a few out of state conferences coming up so being able to leave him with his dad and a bottle plus pumped milk would be very freeing for me. Also, my husband is looking forward to getting to share more one on one feeding time with his little guy. We've been trying various bottles to no avail but then had the chance to try out the NUK Simply Natural bottles and - we appear to be on something! This bottle's nipple is designed to mimic the shape of a breast and provide a perfect fit for Finn's mouth. Plus, it is made of a really soft silicone with a pliability that allows Finn to create a create a stable latch with the nipple. I feel like these bottles must really feel like my breast to him while he's feeding. Continue reading

Finn turned 7 months old on Monday and, well, I forgot to take pictures until today. My bad. But y'all - seven months is BANK. Finn's sitting up on his own, quite the wiggle monster, and starting to give kisses. It's freaking ADORABLE. He's still working on crawling and way, way NOT into eating solid foods but loves watching other people eat. Like I did with Melanie, I'll be doing a little photo project for his first year with monthly photos and a brief rundown of what's happening in his little world (I'm sharing this in a format that I plan on using in a photo book featuring his first year): Continue reading

Remember when I wrote that tutorial on how we repurposed the tables built from wooden pallets for our wedding into a cool ceiling treatment for our entryway? Are you dying to do one of your own? These ceilings are perfect for small rooms with good ventilation - like a powder room, hallway, or entryway. Try to stick to a room with a ceiling that you can clean (cobwebs and dust do get stuck on this due to the rustic, uneven nature of the medium). We really love the look of ours and it was SO easy to do (a bit tedious but SO easy). Interested in doing one yourself? Here's a round up of everything you need to DIY your own wooden pallet ceiling is on Amazon (and don't forget to click through and become an Amazon Prime member with free two day shipping!): Continue reading

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I was born and raised in Alaska, roughly two hours from the Canadian border. It's funny growing up there, because it always feels like Canada is a part of you (like, you refer to the continental United States as "the Outside" but Canada is "next door"). Growing up, we often hosted high schools from Canada at sporting events or cultural activites. So much so, that basically everyone in Alaska knows both of the national anthems of the two countries. I sang "The Star Spangled Banner" and "O Canada" before many a high school basketball game and, to this day, I still know both by heart. So when I realized that my "other homeland" was going to be celebrating their 150th birthday - I immediately wanted to do a little something to embrace those memories of singing their gorgeous anthem. So, I busted out my trusty Cricut Explore Air and made a fun, glittery banner! Check out my step by step tutorial on how to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday with this DIY "O Canada" banner! Cooking. It's one of those things that you either LOVE or you really don't enjoy it. For me, cooking is something that I like to do for my family but I'm not one of those people who is over here inventing recipes everyday. So, if you look in my kitchen, you won't find a bunch of gadgets or specialized kitchen tools - what you'll find is a selection of high quality, well-designed items that work great. I always look for versatility in my kitchen tools and really need ones that can do multiple jobs really well. Because, when it boils down to it, here's the top 12 items you actually need for your kitchen: Continue reading

I'm not a native of Texas but since moving here, I've fully embraced the spicy, bold, and flavorful foods that make up this state's culture! In particular, my family has embraced anything deep fried and barbecued. Bold flavors make up the bulk of our meals and I'm always looking for some solid ways to bring that taste into my home. Right now, my crew is particularly enamored with State Fair® Corn Dogs. They love how the brand is tasty and made in Texas (a huge part of my husband's heritage) and I love that they are a good source of protein. Plus, they are so easy to make - just 20 minutes in the oven and dinner is served. Recently, I had our neighbors over to watch the Spurs play and needed to feed everyone. So I busted out some State Fair Corn Dogs, mixed up these three fun dipping sauces, and let everyone go to town. They're delicious enough to stand alone or pair them with some coleslaw and potato salad for a true #TexFest gathering. Continue reading

The wedding registry. For some, it's a fantastically fun experience and for others, it's a difficult chore. Traditionally, wedding registries are comprised of a mountain of fancy kitchen gadgets and formal dining pieces. And that's awesome - if you're into that kind of thing. But what about the rest of us? The one's who enjoy cooking but are just learning or who don't try out every trend. What about those of us who like having friends over for yummy food but aren't formal? Well, you CAN have that kind of registry. It's yours so why not pick out exactly what you just know you'll use and enjoy? From simple flatware to investing in quality cookware - you should get what you will need for your new kitchen. Don't believe me? Here's why I think even beginner cooks will love having the Braun MQ777 MultiQuick 7 hand blender on their Bloomgingdales.com wedding registry! Continue reading

Getting married and becoming a new couple means a lot of things. Joining finances, discussing future plans, and... joint decorating. Funny thing, it always feels like it's the last one that drives couples to bicker! Trust me. I know. I've been there. After my husband and I got married and started renovating our home, it felt like we endlessly fought over decor styles. He's very into what I call "dude art" - prints with horses, men fishing, and dead animal mounts. I am definitely more feminine and like color and abstract imagery. Combining the two is tricky but, using a few tricks that I've learned, it can be done. Here's how to create the perfect marriage of art with a gallery wall featuring Minted! Continue reading

When it comes to a daily routine with babies, it's the little details that make a huge difference. And when it comes to nursing and pumping, it can be those small things that make feeding your baby easier for everyone. That's why Philips Avent is committed to fine-tuning their products. They genuinely want to improve the lives of parents across Canada and the States. I especially love how the Comfort Breast Pump is designed to allow me to nurse my son on one side and pump on the other with complete ease. It's such a time-saver and I love the efficiency of it. I really appreciate how Philips Avent is supportive of parents who nurse and parents who pump - all they want to is to assist you in feeding your baby in the way that is best for you and your family. Are you a big fan of "Fixer Upper"? Me, too. And it's not just the houses and liberal use of shiplap that make me smile. More often than not, I find myself checking out Joanna's relaxed chic personal style. In particular, I love it when she wearing leather earrings. I think they are so cool and understated. So, I decided to make some for myself with my Cricut Explore Air (but using faux leather) and embrace my inner Joanna. Check out these faux leather triangle earrings (featuring Cricut)! One of my favorite parts about planning my $5,000 wedding was picking out the wedding stationery! From the save the dates to the invitations to the RSVPs, I LOVED picking out the colors, fonts, and design for my wedding suite. To me, the wedding stationery gave my guests a peek at what to expect at the wedding (Will it be colorful and bright? Elegant and chic? Or filled with handmade touches?). For many couples, the wedding stationery is a really special touch for their big day. But, it can be stressful to pick out just the right suite for their needs. Well, that's the awesome thing about wedding stationery from Wedding Paper Divas - picking out and customizing stationery is SO easy and really fun. I love how easy Wedding Paper Divas makes finding wedding stationery! Continue reading

Six months is when all the magic starts happening, people! Today is not only when Finn hits the six month mark but it is also his dad's 50th birthday! I'm doing this post right after he had his six month well baby check-up (everything looks great) and his latest round of vaccines. Everyone continues to go crazy over his ginger head, blue eyes, and adorable personality. He's gearing up to eat his first solid food (sweet potato) tonight and his dad's excited to be the one to feed it to him. Like I did with Melanie, I'll be doing a little photo project for his first year with monthly photos and a brief rundown of what's happening in his little world (I'm sharing this in a format that I plan on using in a photo book featuring his first year): Continue reading

Valentine’s Day is coming and I’m sure that you’re thinking up wonderful ways to celebrate with your partner, spouse, or friends but have you considered using the holiday to encourage your children to embrace all their loving relationships? From the time I was a toddler, my father would carefully pick out a card to give to each of his daughters on Valentine’s Day. They always featured a poem and were signed “Love, Dad”. I received one of these cards every year without fail, even after I moved out, went to college, and got engaged. The simple action of giving me a card on Valentine’s Day was my father way of showing me that I didn’t “need a man” on this holiday. Yes, a romantic Valentine’s with the one you love is fantastic, but so is knowing that a lot of people out there love you and think you’re great. Continue reading
