In an interesting juxtaposition of timing, two months before my 25th wedding anniversary one of my dearest friends got married. Not only did it give me a chance to see and remember what it's like to be full of hope, so heartbreakingly sweet and also slightly naive, but it gave... Continue »

Today is my last day at Six Apart. It's been 3.5 years with an outstandingly clever and humane group of unforgettable friends. I dedicate this Apperceptive/Six Apart-NYC montage to all of you. [WARNING] This is a long, photo-intensive, inside-joke-ridden post.... Continue »

A community manager isn't your community. No more so than an apartment manager is your apartment. "Community management is a refreshingly simple concept: it’s how you communicate with the people who buy/use/think about whatever it is your organisation produces. And... Continue »

I had my first MRI today, due to be me becoming so old that my body has started to physically decompose from the inside. It's kind of a crazy experience that I feel is probably similar to being buried alive, except you're SERIOUSLY NOT ALLOWED TO MOVE AT ALL. They told me that a lot. Here is a list of thoughts I had while in the tube: What if I have to scratch my face/arm/stomach/balls? Oh my god I think I'm having a panic attack!! Ok... even if I'm not having a panic attack, I think I'm inducing one over... Continue »

We would have a family dinner at home most nights of the week. Regardless of what I was doing I had to be home by 7pm. (My kids still remember mom secretly feeding them when they were hungry at 5pm, but eating again with dad at 7pm.) But we would use dinner time to talk about what they did at school, have family meetings etc. Put the kids to bed. Since I was already home for dinner it was fun to help give them their baths, read them stories and put them to bed. I never understood how important the... Continue »

Mark is working at Public, and the office is right at South Park, so after lunch, Garth, Claire, and I took a bike for a spin. Mark gave me their smallest bike and still had to lower a seat, but once set, it totally fit. I loved the handle bars and gear change. A pretty nifty bike, and fun ride. Since Dav and I both need a city bike, we may check 'em out, but they are a bit spendy, and getting my bike stolen is a concern. Public was just mentioned in Apartment Therapy, and will be in June's... Continue »

I am hated. Despised. Virtually spit upon. All because of my car. Yesterday morning I drove in to work (which I don't often do), and parked on the side street next to the office. This is the almost "free" street; it has 1 hour parking limit but they rarely check for it. After a long day at work I came back at dusk hoping I didn't have any parking tickets. Peering at my windshield as I approached the car it seemed like I didn't have just one ticket, I had a collection. Arriving at the car I found they were... Continue »
