I'd like to see Fr Sikorski show up here and face these comments. It would be especially interesting as we now have the added insight of our new friends Scipio and Scipio's buddy. Would Fr Sikorsky dare show up and engage in healthy debate?

Thanks, Scipio.

Polish Pilgrim, I went strolling down memory lane to jog my memory about the details surrounding MM's death. Hopefully this old thread will help answer some of your questions. http://www.life-after-rc.com/2010/02/new-article.html

The reason I'm here at Life After RC is because a nice well meaning pure intentioned LC like Fr Sliney drew me and my family into the movement. I'l never regain what has been lost.

Anonymous 8:24 PM - catchy name, by the way :) Did you read giselle's comment to NW at 7:30 PM? She stated very clearly, lovingly and honestly her position and that of so many who comment here at Life after RC. It wasn't directed to you, but if you care to, I'm interested in your thoughts on that specific post.

However, Fr Sliney is fortunate to have a loyal friend who's willing to stick up for him. Good on you for that. And as a good friend, I hope you'll encourage him to salvage his vocation by leaving the Legion and going where he can be of real service to the Church, not to a select and shrinking group of RCs. Sometimes being a good friend means telling our friends the things they don't wish to hear. I pray you'll have the courage to have that conversation and that he will be open to hearing your words.

Name withheld: "Don't let your anger blind you from the need to forgive! Imitate Christ!" That's an ironic comment in light of the sentence that precedes it, presumably characterizing the posters here as "swine". Christlike indeed.

Please, spare us the hyperbole. Slander? Character assassination? Calumniation? You're not making a strong case with your own exaggerations. Fr Sliney is being obedient to his superiors, and they are simply using him as a sock puppet. He's their window dressing. He's a victim too. I'm sad for him. I pray for his freedom. Fr Sliney is attempting to foster love of Christ? I don't doubt it. But he'll never have any credibility as long as he sticks with this group, a group that few Catholics will ever trust again. That's the barrier he needs to overcome. Not some critics on a blog.

Father Sliney takes on a grandfatherly tone in his posts, like he's Grandpa Walton, imparting pearls of wisdom to the little children gathered around. Do RCs actually find these obvious life lessons edifying? Gee, Fr S, I wouldn't have known to give my children a good example or introduce them to the sacraments had you not explained it to me so well, with this clever gardening analogy. It's all clear to me now.

The line quoted above "Similarly, this will happen to the Legionary cofounders if they remain faithful in love and in obedience to the charism of the Founder." is an upsetting reminder of the way we were pumped up for being "co-founders", that is, our incorporation took place during the lifetime of the founder MM. If I'm a co-founder, why can't I have a say in demolishing this rotten enterprise I supposedly helped "found"?

Jeannette is on a roll today. 'If only if only, bishops cared more about immortal souls than cash, we wouldn't be in this mess. What if: the first coupla lawsuits, the bishops had said, "It's only money; we've already lost our treasure when the children were abused. If money helps, take what you need to rebuild your life: therapy, education to help you, here's a hotline if you have difficulties."' I don't care what the mainstream media says about the Catholic Church. I care that the Catholic Church keeps giving them things to write about.

Good string of comments there, Jeanette. The LC ptb did not seem to care about MM's immortal soul either, only that the reputation of MM and R/L should not be sullied, lest recruitment and fundraising be negatively affected. How easy it would have been for the Legion to ask for prayers from the R/L in MM's time of moral crisis. It makes me wonder, do the LC ptb have any faith at all?

Taking this discussion full circle, we look at RC/LC. Members are encouraged to send daughters away at an early age to live with the so-called "consecrated". Members are encouraged to send their sons to the Apostolic School. The intent? To prevent them from losing their vocations as 3gfs or LCs.

If schools and media ventures are struggling, could Mission Network be far behind? I await an announcement on MN next.

Hmm. The Legion used legionaryfacts.org to defend MM. Once they knew the truth, they didn't go back to legionaryfacts.org to correct their defence of MM, even though they knew the "facts" presented were wrong.

IIRC, I think Monk took a beating for suggesting people name names. Maybe it's the remnants of RC influence, but isn't naming names on a blog tantamount to calumny? And if that's the case, aren't we limited to speaking in generalities? If I have this wrong, I don't mind gentle correction.

What will the RC “consecrated” look like post-visitation? I find it difficult to predict. It would be interesting to know what others expect will result from this visitation.

Abp Tom Collins is brilliant. Would that there were more like him. He gives me hope for the future of the Church.
