I'm with you. I hate mine, and they were the top rated ones when I bought them. I have been looking at the new top loading ones when I need to replace mine, which looks to be pretty soon.
Washers
If I had it to do over I'd never buy a front loading, high efficiency washer. There's nothing high efficiency about it except maybe the use of too little water. Water which never completely drains out which means clothes sit in a puddle of water when the cycle is complete. And these front loaders...
Man, I just don't get the IKEA hysteria. Never been in a store, just online. Just not impressed. What am I missing?
Breaking news...maybe
Last night KMOX's Michael Calhoun tweeted this: IKEA set to build near SLU What?!!! Calhoun linked to a story from NextSTL which has the details. The details however, are not exactly set in stone, but if it is true, what a great location and what excitement it will bring to a city which has so ...
Rally Squirrel?
Question of the day
The government once spent $325,000 to make a Robo Squirrel. What became of it?
Jimmy's. Really great food. One of the best burgers I have ever had!
A Thinking Chair
Aaron Boerst, one of our students here at Concordia Seminary who often works part time on grounds took it upon himself to do a bit of chain saw sculpting the other day. He turned a large Oak tree stump into a chair which he named the Luther Park Thinking Chair. Actually the park is named Concord...
Hard as I try I can't get up without using my hand behind me to balance myself. I can get down without help just not up! Guess I get a 9.
Guess I need to work on something new now. It's always something.
Can you get up off the floor?
Here's a result of another study guaranteed to ruin your day. From University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. "A simple test that looks at how easy -- or difficult -- it is for you to sit down on the floor and then get back up may help predict how long you’re going to live, a new study shows." OK ...
Like in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.
For some
It's always winter, never Christmas.
They sure are trying to sexualize our little girls. They even have padded bras for them.
I have both grandsons and granddaughters and see what you are talking about. I have to admit though that it's much better than when my kids were small.
New World problems
Go look for kids clothes and unless you are shopping for girls you'll be shocked at what you find. Every childrens store and every store that sells childrens clothes are stocking 3/4's of the store with clothes for girls. Boys have a small corner. Why is this, don't boys need clothes too? Clothe...
None of my kids watch the news on television. Or much of anything else on the major networks. It's mostly Netflix. I think they watch a few of the newer series/comedies on USA network or other cable channels. News is found on the internet.
The average age of viewers of the cable broadcast news stations
Let's look at the numbers Fox 65 CNN 63 MSNBC 59 CNBC 52 How about the average age of prime time broadcast stations: ABC 51 CBS 55 NBC 45 Fox 35 When it comes to news, it looks as though younger people are not watching it on television. It would be interesting to know the average age of those w...
Just checked a different website. It has Obama over Romney in St Clair county
Zero, Zilch, Nada
News out of Philadelphia is that Romney received zero votes in 59 precincts. Yes. Not one person voted for Romney in Philadelphia. Some election expert is quoted as saying this is not at all unusual because "We have always had these dense urban corridors that are extremely Democratic. It's kind ...
We were with some friends last night and one of them was looking up the election numbers from Madison and St Clair counties. Both went for Romney. We were all shocked.

What beautiful, precious gifts from God!
Compare the boys
Here's Drew the day he was born And Jacob Close in looks, but newborns a couple hours old often look alike Here's Drew with his hair And Jacob He yawns a lot.
Amazing photos. I am especially struck by the photo of the Pennsylvania site. There is virtually nothing left of the plane.
9-11 Stories Indelible Images
We watched, or we were there. Photos of the day we may never have seen from New York Ciry.
Yay!

Are they pro choice or not?
This is a video made by Reason TV in Charlotte asking women attending the convention if they are pro choice. The follow up questions and answers are thought provoking and curious. It is not an extreme or flagrant video, but really interesting.

Don't like Jon Stewart, but this is priceless.

One twitter acct: put an empty chair in your front yard.
Think I'll go do that now!
It's #emptychairday on Twitter
This hastag has been loads of fun seeing what people are coming up to celebrate Obama's empty chair. Dont blame Bush for the 'empty chair'.
Hail Caesar!
Not ready for Mount Rushmore
They're sculpting a 16 foot sand sculpture of President Obama at the democratic national convention site. Folks? This isn't 2008 anymore, the adoration phase is over. Could this ever happen to anyone else? I'd like to think this was a prank. Photo via Citizen Journalist
Your ability to hang in there lasted a lot longer than mine. I dumped him after the tingle up my leg statement. Yeah we know he's a commentator and not a journalist, but c'mon Chris!
This is why we are no longer able watch Chris Matthews
Used to watch Hardball in the late afternoon, but this sort of thing became so common that he became unbearable. Here's a hint for GOP officials and candidates: Don't bother with MSNBC this week because their only purpose is to bring you down.
Just say it out loud. Kerfuffle. It's fun! Colorful. How about the term donnybrook? Another good word. Channel 9 has the local news show by that name.
Recalls
Not to put to fine an edge on this but I'm regularly astounded and irritated by people who put out petitions to get a ballot measure to recall elected officials who vote for or against things they don't like. It's happened in the city of St. Louis more than once in recent years, it's happened in...
Yes, what is going on? Is it the heat? Chicago is having an even worse year for shootings and murders. I don't know how that could factor in for car wrecks though. Maybe hot pavement causing tire blow outs?
Gunshots and fires
Does it seem to anyone else that the St. Louis metro has had more building fires and shootings this summer than previously? And bad car/truck/bus accidents?
My son's friend Martin Baker is running in the first district. You're right, it's a done deal that who ever wins the Democratic primary wins the seat. I have read that the seat has been held by a Democrat since 1949 and by a Clay since 1969. Not very good odds for a Republican or Carnahan it would seem.
Primary Day in Missouri
Time to go to the polls...again. By my count this is at least the 4th election since early spring and this will be the election to choose which candidates by party will be on the November ballot. It seems awfully late in the game for a primary, but that's the Missouri way. Forget looking at the ...
My hardy hibiscus and Knock Outs aren't showing much distress either. My old fashioned lilacs-probably planted in the early 60's are surprisingly not so lucky.
Perennial Hybiscus and Knock Out roses
In our backyard Somethings survive the heat and drought.
I'm getting ready to pull some of the half dead flowers out of their containers. Some of them look really pitiful. Plus I'm getting really tired of watering when it does no good with this heat. I moved some of the "sun" annuals to part sun and they seem to be doing a little better.
No matter how much we water
It never lasts. Our poor impatiens on the corner They're in the shade but the heat and lack of rain makes them gasp unless they get watered. So water we must.
Perhaps it is a backlash against the food police harping on us about the danger of all the food that tastes so good. The new rally cry? Pork fat rules! I see folks in NY are now going after the large sizes of popcorn in movie theaters. Please tell me that's a joke.
What is this obsession with bacon?
Bacon's good, sure. But in the past couple of years foodies, chefs, food writers, restaurateurs, have been adding bacon to everything and touting the result as nothing short of amazing. Worse, many of these same people have taken to using the term 'pork belly' for bacon, maybe keep to their boni...
They are called pokeweed or pokeberry. They are poisonous. I don't know how much you have to ingest, but keep the kiddos away from them.
Weeds by any other name still have to be cleaned up
Around these parts there is a certain weed who's name I do not know which proliferate at great speed and grow taller than most people within days of surfacing. They'll end up with a rather reddish stem and form red berrys when mature if you don't yank them out early. Unfortunately they are imp...
