That is ten kinds of awesome. I'm not usually one to wax nostalgic for my childhood (most of my nostalgia is for my mid-late twenties, which is weird since I'm only 31), but every great once in a while, I have an experience like that, where on little thing someone else brings up drags out a bunch of interesting/cool/whatever memories from way back when... this is a good thing.
Also, I so want to ride one of those things now...
On the set of Stand By Me
This picture was originally posted on Tumblr by thefactory-: You know that montage when we’re walking back home, near the end of the movie, and we go by in silhouette during sunset? It’s what they used as inspiration for the poster. This picture was taken when we filmed that little bit. That...
"Reading makes you a smarter and better person than not reading. And that's a fact!"
QFT. Just don't buy into that nonsense about it needing to be the classics to count. Every generation has their Dan Browns (I'm look at you, Charlotte Bronte), and while not every generation has their Shakespear, we do have our Cervantes, our Dumas and our Dickens. You might have to dig around a bit to find them, but that's half the fun, isn't it?
The Tournament of Books: State of Wonder vs. The Sisters Brothers
I am a judge in this year's Tournament of Books at The Morning News. The Tournament is a bracketed competition that pits sixteen books against each other, two books at at time. It's sort of like March Madness, if March Madness didn't bore me to death.* I love to read, and I have so much going on...
Most awesome. If I make it to PAX this year, I'll go as Sparks. It will be awesome.
From the Vault: Sparks McGee
This was brought to my attention by a fellow Redditor in this thread. I'd completely forgotten about it, which I can blame on it being written almost ten years ago. Holy shit. Ten years ago. Enjoy: To: < wil@wilwheaton.net> Subject: star trek Ya know the writers could have solved that whole ima...
As a meat-eater and soup-lover, I second this. Both Better Than Bouillon and No Chicken Base make for excellent flavorful soups, and I use both for cooking purposes on a semi-regular basis.
Recipe time: Wil's Sinusitis Can Suck It Vegetable Soup
I managed to go eighteen whole months without getting sick, but sometime in the last week or so, something worked its way into my sinuses, and it's been kicking my ass for the last 48 hours. For most of the last week, I've been waking up in the morning with an intensely sore throat and painful, ...
PAX was awesome. Good games, good friends, lots of fun. Felicia Day is super-nice and somehow manages to be even more beautiful in person than on screen. Wil Wheaton is shorter than I expected, but I really should have known better than to project his towering King of Geeks presence onto his physical stature. The line to his table was quite long, but I caught him standing about listening to music and he handle the way I rudely interrupted him to gift him a die very politely.
Sorry again for butting in like that Wil, I hope you at least get some use out the die, even if it hasn't got numbers on it.
How was your PAX?
I'm on set for Eureka, tethering to the Internets through a mobile hotspot, using my iPad to post with the Typepad app. This is, as they say, less than optimal for blogging. However, I wanted to put a post up for PAX stuff, until I can write a proper post in the next few days. I had a wonderful ...
