Zorn said he is troubled by the concept of government forcing people to buy something from a private business. Well, the government makes choices for us all day long with our tax dollars (e.g., the Pentagon buying from private manufacturers & contractors, or the FAA buying new air traffic control systems from private companies, or the FBI ... ). If we want Congress to solve the health care problem as well as other major problems like financial regulation, we need to get the money out of Washington, i.e., we need campaign finance reform. If that requires amending the Constitution, that's what we should do. (I know this is not going to happen until things get much worse, unfortunately).

Most of the time those of us who order on-line have to pay an ever increasing shipping charge which can be viewed as a 'tax'. Mr. Kaplan has a choice: "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." He can easily compete with on-line vendors by having a low cost web presence. He will find that the usual rules of competition apply to on-line selling. You either compete on price, service or uniqueness of product.
