Gust Avracotos was a Greek American who served in Greece in 1974. He convinced the then dictator Ioannides that if he made a coup d'etat against the President of Cyprus the USA would not allow Turkey to invade Cyprus. The question is whether that was his honest personal opinion or part of wider conspiracy by the USA to change the status quo in Cyprus. Anyway Turkey did invade Cyprus in 1974, 5,000-10,000 people got killed, terrible atrocities were committed by the Turkish troops, have the population of Cyprus became refugees and the island of Cyprus is still divided. The naive Dictator Ioannides at 86 is still in prison and the Greek American CIA agent who was so successful in Afganistan committed serious treason to the motherland of his parents probably without foreseing the consequences of his advice. Also without wanting it he made a good thing to his parents'motherland:After the disaster in Cyprus the Greek junta collapsed after 7 years in power and democrasy returned to Greece in 1974 with the blood of Cyprus.....
