Yeah, the C-130 that was called off was Libyan and offered to the US by that government. The troops got a phone call just before they boarded the aircraft telling them to stay on the ground.
What Needs to Be Answered about Benghazi
Tomorrow, before a House committee on Benghazi, State Department employees are testifying about the battle. Apparently, these State personnel are whistleblowers who were threatened into silence about the role of their organization and its leaders that resulted in the deaths of 4 and the woundin...
He just renewed warrantless wiretaps, too. If he was given a chance, I don't doubt he'd "out" Valerie Plame again.
Bush's Gitmo evil, Obama's Gitmo just peachy
It has been more than a little comical to watch the lefties who spent all their waking hours howling at the moon about the evils of the Bush team, suddeny be struck mute, or worse simply change their tune and support the continuance or even expansion of the same policies by the gutsy caller. Th...
Gordon Duff says that they're in cahoots with the Joos and they were planning a coup if Obama wins the election. That sounds as plausible as anything else I read on Facebook.
Rumors of General Officers Arrested, Relieved, or Resigning in Protest
We've received many emails over the last week or so from readers asking us to get to the bottom of this situation/rumors du jour...I'm not sure that we can actually do that quickly, but here is what we've been hearing... First of all, over the last week there have been many reports that the AFRI...
In regards to Tricare, this administration is also currently planning to end Tricare Prime. In April, Tricare Prime will no longer be available to retirees in five western states forcing them into Tricare Standard - higher out-of-pocket expenses. The long term plan is to force us all into VA care.
When you head to the polls ...
A couple of things to remember: In an effort to cut defense spending, the Obama Administration plans to cut health benefits for active duty and retired military personnel and their families while not touching the benefits enjoyed by unionized civilian defense workers. The move, congressional ai...
Funny, they say in the first line that half of suicides are committed with POWs, but then several paragraphs down, they say it's a third. They don't mention that more than half of the military folks who commit suicide have never deployed, and none of the civilians who commit suicide have deployed. So, suicide has nothing to do with the war, it has everything to do with the American culture. They already tried taking deployed soldiers' issued weapons from them and we got green-on-blue attacks, so that didn't work.
Taking guns away from "suicidal" servicemembers
There is some talk about allowing commanders and others to talk to "potentially suicidal" servicemembers and ask them to voluntarily give up their guns. A common sense answer to the deadly problem of military and veteran suicides, or a naked power grab that will be used improperly? Probably bot...
I'm the last one to defend Obama, but, last year, he spoke at TAL's convention and skipped the VFW's. This year, he spoke at the VFW's and sent a video to TAL's. I'm sure the TAL's membership were still reeling from his promise to "not balance the budget on the backs of veterans" (while the SecDef was planning to do exactly that), and didn't need to hear the same stuff he didn't mean anyway this year.
But, I think Gunny Highway covered the war well enough.
Missing the Mark
About Gov. Romney's speech last night, William Kristol at the Weekly Standard asks: What about the civic propriety of a presidential nominee failing even to mention, in his acceptance speech, a war we're fighting and our young men and women who are fighting it? Has it ever happened that we've b...
Actually it's worse than merely anti-American bilge. He goes on to encourage Americans to refuse to pay our taxes until the government collapses. Either that, or we're all supposed to move to Pennsylvania.
Moral relativism rears its ugly and uninformed head in condemnation of US soldiers
So I’m over at Zero Hedge, which is a great blog to read concerning economics, when I run across a “guest post” by some guy named James Miller of the Ludwig von Mises Institute Canada. Now let me say upfront, I’m an admirer of the Austrian school of economics of which von Mises was a founder. B...
It's not like Stan McCrystal didn't tell them this would happen if they didn't commit to his troops strength estimates for the Afghan Surge. You either go to war to win it, totally, or stay home.
Our Afghan Allies
Via NBC, a report that some Afghan units are making agreements with the Taliban to jointly loot our convoys. "We lost seven men in an ambush when I first arrived at the base," Wali, who commands 18 men, told The Times. "So I thought, why risk my life when there's another way?" Joseph Heller wo...
I'm guessing that you haven't read the HuffPo piece yet.
"By that point, though, I felt as if I had examined every aspect of the operation. We had been preparing for months, now," Obama said.
Belated congrats to Obama on the death of Osama
I spent plenty of pixels given the President grief for his disgraceful use of the OBL raid for political purposes. I also want to congratulate him for greenlighting the operation. A bad man is dead and the world is a better place. Well done sir.
Suh-weet. I want a formation. Outside. In 10 minutes.
Mother Jones defends Obama from lying liars
I know all of us here at BLACKFIVE consider Mother Jones to be one of the most reputable and respected publications around. So it is especially gratifying for me to be honored by them in a recent compilation of the "9 most compelling arguments about Obama's misuse of the bin Laden raid for polit...
So where do I sign up for the tin-foil hat platoon? Is there an oath of allegiance? I really like oaths of allegiance.

“If we did the pullups, it would disadvantage the female soldiers, and I’m just not comfortable with that,” Longo said.
I'm not comfortable with that BS. Tell me women still do pull-ups in BAC. Last I checked, risers don't pull themselves.
New Army APFT?
In my time in the Army I went through more versions of the APFT than I care to remember. From the run-dodge-and-jump and grenade throw to the inverted crawl to the current one they’ve all been purported to be better than the last in measuring the fitness of Soldiers. We’re about to see another ...
For the tranny issue, "Google" "Autumn Sandeen".
Brave? Hardly. Unprofessional? Absolutely
Over at This Ain't Hell is a photo of a welcome home ceremony where two male Marines (one in uniform returning home apparently) are kissing. And it's not just a kiss... If any event marks the day the military’s gay ban was really over, it came last week, when Marine CorpsSgt. Brandon Morgan, i...
Thanks for the link B5. You'll never be my farm team - that means I'd have to buy the beer and I like our current arrangement.
FAKE SEAL and Special Operator Busted
Over at This Ain't Hell (we are soon to be THEIR farm team), Jonn Lilyea takes a Blackfive reader request and uncovers yet another SEAL poser. Check it out. Jonn has made outing phonies a cottage industry. And this phony should have been proud of his service rather than making claims that are...
Broke Biden's brain? You'd have to find it first and then use a super-collider. I admire your restraint, my friend.
Making friends at the Army/Navy game
(Editor [LTC SAM]- Most entertaining pics are below the fold, your commentary is most graciously invited) OK, so the college football team for the Navy beat the college football team for the Army. That has caused a bunch of Navy types to make big noise. I want to remind them of just one thing: T...
Thanks, Elise, I bought the book the other day and haven't got to it yet. You've made me feel better about the purchase - I've been worried about it because Tom Clancy started boring me a few years back and I almost skipped this one, too.
Review: Tom Clancy's Against All Enemies
This review of Tom Clancy's 'Against All Enemies' is a special to Blackfive from Elise Cooper. Read her reviews on Blackfive by clicking here or the Books category in the sidebar. Tom Clancy’s latest novel, Against All Enemies, is a New York Times Bestseller. This is not surprising since the p...
A cigar and a glass of rum will sacrifice themselves in your honor tonight, old friend.
Happy Birthday to Uncle Jimbo!
He looks great for 60!
Helmet? Hippie.
You shoulda told me you were looking, my son-in-law works at City Bikes in Bethesda. He got me $400 off my Cannondale.
My new wheels
UPDATE: Did I mention that I freakin' hate Apple, and it's not even the freakin' iPad. OK, Froggy shamed me out of buying a scooter so I got this. The helmet is totally bitchin'. My freakin' thighs are fried though. Dag.
"No hoodlums and brigands, what fun is that?"
I joined the 1/75th in 1975. It may have been a story to impress the youngsters, but all of the battalion's first sergeants used to tell us they all met in the stockade when they were younger. Anyone who was with us in Augsburg for REFORGER can tell about the time someone tried to steal a Ranger's beret at the EM Club. Or the EM Club at Fort Richardson in AK, or the EM Club at Fort McClellan (3600 WACs in Basic Training, 500 Rangers and a few hundred MPs in AIT - you do the math).
The Birth of the Rangers
From W. Thomas Smith, Jr.'s This Week in American Military History (emphasis mine): Jan. 31, 1974: The first of three U.S. Army Ranger battalions since World War II is activated. Yes, there were post-war Rangers and Ranger units of varying sizes, but the modern battalion-organization is launch...
I looked up from the laptop and the super-sized Jimbo face on my TV screen scared the crap out of me. The cats are still hiding under the furnace.
Where in the world is Uncle J?
OK let's play the game. Where was this picture taken this morning? More to follow later. Subsunk called it with Brit Hume's office, although it is actually the Special Report studio and I was in Bret Baier's chair. It was a spot on FOX's America's Newsroom w/ Bill Hemmer about the KSM trial m...
