I'm Tim Lucas, Lead Pastor of Liquid Church-- a creative Christian church located in NJ but with friends all across the world (sup, Australia?!). This blog is all about the stuff I love-- my kids, leadership, technology, communication, film, God, and culture (not in that order!) Most important fact? I have two cherubs, a special wife, and a lazy hound named Percy.
Interests: new media, mountain biking, late-nite billiards with close friends, itunes dance parties with my kids, canoodling on the couch with colleen, sam mendes films, emerging culture

I agree Peter. Would you want this to happen for every song?

“Authentic leadership means eliminating buzzwords and BS.” That’s the heading of blog post by ThoughtLeaders director Mike Figlioulo that I read this morning. You can read the whole post here. I read this less than 48 hours after this sentence... Continue reading

Hey GP. Great comment. I agree, ultimately, the BEST leader serves - the worship team, the music, the community, the church, the church leadership. I see too many worship leaders get caught up in leadership struggles which have the potential to split - rather than unite - the church.

Hey Matt. I don't think it needs to be one or the other - but a balance of both. I see a lot of worship leaders who seem give more attention to the leadership stuff at the expense of the worship side. I'm calling for a balance. Jesus was the ultimate sacrificial, humble worshipper ... but also the ultimate leader!

Hey Jim. This is not about judging others, but it is about challenging your own motives and "examine ourselves" (1 Corinthians 11:28). If this post causes you or others to examine themselves in worship, then it serves its purpose. Unfortunately, Christians think the word "judge" means "condemn" and so assume we shouldn't do that ... but biblically speaking, believers are encouraged to "judge" righteously using the definition that judging means to "make a distinction" (Luke 7:40-43; John 7:21-24; 1 Cor 11:31-32 for example). We are to make a distinction between our thoughts and our behaviors. We are to make a distinction between positive and negative actions. We are to make a distinction between "right" things and sin. It all depends on your definition of "judge".

Hey Plora ... great input! No need to fear the flames ;-). I believe the Holy Spirit can move as powerfully in the planning of a service as He can in the moment. I believe God was leading the planning of this and creating moments within the worship set well before any of His people participated in it together. This video was put together to glorify God and to use the creative gifts He has given so many of our Liquid team. These gifts are given to encourage the church and I believe they did on Easter Sunday. And don't worry - there are plenty of hymns planned for worship at Liquid!

I just read a report in USA Today that Americans spent $1.5 billion on tickets for last week's Mega Lottery. That's the equivalent of about $5 for every man, woman and child living in the US! That's a crazy amount... Continue reading

Hey Robin. Thanks for the comment. It's Pastor Dave here. 1 Cor 8:13 is an important verse - one I personally think about a lot as I deal with many men from the Market Street Mission. So I'm fully aware of acting in appropriate ways. I would like to live out the freedom we have in Christ by remembering Titus 1:15 also. And my perspective is summed up in the blog I wrote here on why Jesus called us to mix salt with manure. Would love to get your thoughts on that.

Hi classmates, A great week 3 class! Although, starting with a pop quiz was a surprise? Could this happen in week 4?
