Oh people are bad sometimes, aren't they! But three cheers to the publisher above for stepping into the breach so graciously!

Thanks for this, Kimbofo - I've been meaning to read a Niall Williams book for ages. I've got 'Four Letters of Love' on my shelves. This has boosted his appeal somewhat!

These lists are always fascinating but a bit ridiculous. I really love Penelope Fitzgerald's writing, however, and am delighted to see her up there. When she writes you can somehow see that every word is perfect, and every sentence sculpted into something beautiful and real. She's extraordinary. I never think Julian Barnes gets his due in these kind of committee decisions either.

I've been meaning to read this book for a long time although my version is in French (reading novels in French being my day job, I hasten to add). Thank you for the review which has made me very keen to get on with it!

I love Dame Laura Knight's painting and haven't seen any of it in years - thanks for reminding me with that beautiful image.
