Stephen and I spent the wee hours of the week before Christmas "making babies" we called it ;). By Christmas morning there was a whole tribe of peg people for Canaan to love. Such fun!
Book Review and Giveaway : : Making Peg Dolls
Maybe you already noticed. I have an ongoing love of peg dolls. If I had to pick just one craft to do with my kids for the rest of time, this would probably be the one. And my kids share the obsession. I pick up peg people when I house clean like other families pick up Legos. Creating peg...
I am certain that all the bundling will be worth it when you enjoy one alongside a mug of tea;)
cranberry orange muffins are delicious.
Canaan and I made a simple batch of muffins this cold January morning. After enjoying one, we decided we should share them with you. Unfortunately, you aren't here. Therefore the best way for us to share is to pass along the recipe and hope you enjoy them nearly as much as we do. lov...
Oh thank you! I am so grateful for this man beside me.
And now, about that cute girl. (in his own words!)
Several years ago, I started telling you our story here, and then a few weeks ago I told you a bit more here. Today I am so privileged to post that promised bit of our story in Stephen's own words. Enjoy. Guest post by the one who always comes out looking better than I deserve due to the lo...
If for no other reason I love the Friday posts because of how much you love them:). Thanks for your support and love
Friday 1.11.13
Friday. A day for a post of pictures. After ironing 21 shirts, four pairs of pants, and one dress (which is nothing heroic but rather a testament to how many weeks I have neglected this least favorite task), I moved on to cleaning the floors. Dada and Canaan had their own work to do.
Oh yes! I listened to and highly recommend Tim Keller's sermon called "peace" in iTunes. It was posted november 2012.

What a special memory for you! Both of my grandmoms were gone before I was two. I wish I had grandmom memories but that wasn't in the cards for me!

Last year we even made it out to the beach on my birthday weekend. Maybe we could be so lucky again this year
gift of a day
My spirit feels at ease. On an unexpected and deeply treasured 70 degree January morning, Canaan and I found ourselves at the ocean. We started at the park, which she calls the "wheeee!". The sun warm on my cheeks, the air still and quiet, it was time to go check on our ocean. Novem...
Reorienting our brains is tough work. Let me know if you find any super successful strategies;)

Mr cute guy will be chiming in soon;)
more about that cute guy
Canaan and I sat on the kitchen floor this morning and shared a bowl of pinto beans and rice while we listened to Jack Johnson. She would take breaks from eating to dance a little bit. We would twirl a little bit, eat a little bit, and I just kept smiling. This little hippie corner of my morning...
It is so fun and romantic to relive it all. Yes, write yours when you can!

Gratitude 13
Welcome 2013. I'm grateful today for so much. Including... 1. Holding hands. 2. Walking beneath the stars. 3. Amazing coffee roasted by our friends. 4. Soft yarn and the promise of a new project on the needles. 5. Summer garden dreams. 6. Perfect bacon. 7. Making art (especially the project I...
Yes the pullover was mom's. a forty year flashback:). Stephen opted out of wearing the matching one.
this will be our year
Stephen and I spent a few precious minutes yesterday contemplating words that we want to make our reality this year. We want to manifest these words all over our (God willing) 365 coming days like sweet sticky fingerprints. Our plan, if you want to call it that, is to write these words all ov...

Resolution worth resolve
We have never gotten into making resolutions, but as I was falling asleep last night a macabre conviction was running through my head. As I slid into bed beside a happy sleeping toddler, I was thinking about, of all things, death. I was thinking about the women I know that have been diagnosed...
Prin,
I totally agree. Stephen and I talked about this and on one hand I could say if I knew today was my last day all I would do would be kiss my family and write them letters to read for years to come. But when I think about this question as a resolution type question I think of it more like if this was a one shot deal to do whatever my hand finds to do today as best as I could... To apply the "last day" intensity to whatever I am given to do.

I love your thoughtful and honest reply. Praying for you too in our sanctifying journey of parenting! What a joy it truly is!
looking back to look ahead part 1 of (no idea yet)
Some part of me feels like I want to apologize. I want to apologize to Canaan, to God, to Stephen, for the lag from my mind to my heart. Eighteen months ago, Canaan joined our family in the flesh. Nineteen months ago, I had no idea what I was in for. I had no idea the sanctification that God h...
Thank you for your grace filled reply! I would like to say I was great in all my varied emotions but can honestly admit some of them where green eyes monsters;) praying each day to be ok with the ebb and flow without it growing fangs in my face, ya know?:)

I appreciate her noting the innate value in our children because they are made in God's image. When we remember that, we are compelled to love and be patient with them. Good reminder to be a person of respect for God and His children.
on whining, and how it is irritating.
So there is a certain pitch of "mommmmmaaaaa" that makes my eyes go blurry and ears start ringing and everything in me want to blow a gasket. It is really really REALLY hard to be patient and kind when the fork is being scraped across the plate, so to speak. If whining is so irritating to me, t...
Thanks for your comment! I tried to watch the video but the link isn't working. Could you repost it?

I'll take that as a compliment for both of us. The intensity I recognize as quite familiar ;)

Friday. A day for a post of pictures.
Yes for about 6 years. It was fun extravagant work!
I know I shouldn't talk about meatloaf on a foodblog, but I am going to anyways.
When I worked as a private chef, the couple I cooked for requested meatloaf. I remember secretly shriveling my nose and thinking, "You are paying me how much for meatloaf? Seriously, Meatloaf?" I scrounged around at different recipe ideas, meshed a few together, and gave them their request. Unfo...
what a great craft for my niece and I! instead of printing the letters, we wrote and cut them out ourselves. So fun. thanks!

Oh and I love you
Every momma needs a mantra
Did you know these are positively fantastic treasures? There are so many miraculous moments throughout the day when tickling and cuddling a laughing child that makes funny faces back at me, crawls onto my chest and whispers, "momma". Those moments sing on their own without much effort. Then ...
