This week, the US House of Representatives Rules Committee green-lighted an amendment that would cut funding to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) by $23 millioneach– a 15% cut to each agency’s operating budget. This sudden action is in contrast to House and Senate bipartisan proposals to increase funding to the arts. Here in New Hampshire we know the value and the power of the creative economy, and we strongly condemn these attempts to cut our national investment in the arts. Continue reading

The McAuliffe Shepard Discovery Center will open a Discovery Lab, a new permanent space specifically designed for tinkering, making, and discovery, on Friday, August 3rd. The opening will be part of the Discovery Center’s Super Stellar Friday event where the Center is open extra hours every first Friday of the month from 6:30-9:30 PM with special programming. In 1892 the address of: RFD No. 7, Laconia, New Hampshire was established for lake mail service. This began the tradition of delivering mail to summer island residents of Lake Winnipesaukee.
