Abhijit “Nannu” Nobis, of Nobis Engineering, Inc., was selected by a jury of his peers from New Hampshire’s engineering societies as the “2018 New Hampshire Engineer of the Year.” The American Council of Engineering Companies of New Hampshire (ACEC-NH) nominated Nobis based on his record of professional accomplishments, service to the profession, and contributions to the community. He’ll be receiving this award at the 67th Annual Engineer’s Week Banquet on February 22 at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord, NH. Continue reading

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center will be open from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. every day for February vacation, from Saturday, February 17 through Sunday, March 4. Visitors to the Discovery Center during the vacation weeks will be able to explore True or False, a special international exhibition on the scientific method, and to view Wildest Weather in the Solar System, the Discovery Center’s first planetarium show produced by National Geographic. Madbury has joined a growing number of towns and cities using the state's tax incentive program to encourage historic barn preservation. RSA 79-D authorizes towns and cities to grant property tax relief to barn owners who can demonstrate the public benefit of preserving their barn or other older farm buildings, and agree to maintain them throughout a minimum 10-year preservation easement. To honor outstanding work in its field, the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance is seeking nominations for its annual Preservation Achievement Awards. The awards recognize individuals, organizations, or businesses in the categories of restoration and stewardship, rehabilitation and adaptive use, compatible new construction, public policy, and educational and planning initiatives. The deadline for submissions is March 12, 2018. Nomination materials are in the event section of www.nhpreservation.org, or can be secured by emailing project@nhpreservation.org. Individuals, organizations and businesses are invited to submit nominations. Applications are available for construction projects or education, planning or advocacy initiatives. The awards will be presented in Concord on May 8, 2018 at the Concord City Auditorium. Continue reading

On Friday night, February 2, at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center at 7 p.m., Science Educator David McDonald, M.Ed., will discuss how Albert Einstein changed humanity’s view and understanding of the universe – and how 21st century discoveries such as recently detected gravitational waves continue to illustrate the validity of Einstein’s theories. McDonald’s talk will be followed by the planetarium show Tonight’s Sky, in which Director of Education Sarah Hoffschwelle will discuss this week’s super, blue and eclipsing moon. Doors to the Discovery Center open at 6:30 p.m.; the exhibit galleries are open for viewing of the new special exhibition, True or False, in addition to the Discovery Center’s permanent exhibitions. WATERVILLE VALLEY RESORT will host the annual Pink Raffle to support Boarding 4 Breast Cancer on Saturday, February 3rd at 8:00 AM through Sunday, February 4th 4:00 PM. Waterville has raised over $50,000 in the last 11 years through this event. Boarding 4 Breast Cancer (B4BC) is a non-profit, youth-focused education, awareness, and fundraising foundation.
