Want to close more sales? Then stop closing! We've heard for so long that closing is the key step in the sales process but these days closing seems old school. Today, customers have grown wary of interruption marketing and traditional sales tactics. To win more sales in the new economy, you need to adjust your sales approach accordingly. Hi Katie, Thanks for reading. I need to give full attribution to Lewis Schiff at Inc. Magazine for the original Radian6 mention. I was sharing his post which I thought was spot on regarding social media strategy and metrics. Hopefully I can still take you up on the mental high-five.

(Originally posted by David Roe at CMS Wire) Just when you thought 2010 predictions were finished, Gartner (news, site) comes out with more. This time it’s the top five customer relationship management (CRM) predictions that have produced some surprising insights, not least that while Facebook will be the top social network globally, in places like Russia, Japan, India and China it won’t. And the problem is language. The Gartner predictions, developed from two pieces of research carried out by Gartner before Christmas, and in anticipation of the Gartner CRM summit in the UK next month and LA in June, show’s... I just ran across a great post from Christopher Koch at The Customer Collective, which I'd like to share: I’ve been working with my colleagues at ITSMA on another survey on social media for B2B marketers that I hope you’ll take by going here. As we put together the questions, we struggled with the issue of social media strategy. I resisted treating it as a standalone in the survey. I’m hoping that all the articles, books, and blogs I’m seeing that look at B2B social media strategy in isolation are a function of our excitement over this new channel (and... Continue reading

Great post by Lewis Schiff at Inc.: Our goal seemed simple enough. Create a roadmap for promoting your company using social media. Well, nothing’s simple in the wild and wooly world of social media. However, I think we made a good start. With nearly 100 entrepreneurs and executives gathered in the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut area on February 23 and 24, we identified some milestones for implementing a social media strategy for our business. The guest experts were expert indeed: Lena West, president of xynoMedia, a social media consulting firm that specializes in women-owned businesses, brought entrepreneurial savvy to our quest.... The following was originally posted by Beth Kassab in the Orlando Sentinel. As I read it, I couldn't help but be reminded that social media is still a new territory (especially in the corporate world) with many nuances to understand. When big companies like SeaWorld use Facebook, Twitter and blogs effectively, they scrape off a layer of shiny corporate veneer and engage in a more intimate relationship with both customers and critics. We are seeing just how difficult it can be for companies to navigate that newfound intimacy with the death Wednesday of killer whale trainer Dawn Brancheau. The tragedy... Continue reading

Fifty-seven percent of U.S. workers use social media for business purposes at least once per week Businesses are about to experience significant cultural and process changes driven by the social Web, reports recent IDC research. According to a new IDC study, “The State of Social Business: 2009 Survey Results,” the intersection of Web 2.0, enterprise 2.0 and collaboration will fundamentally alter how businesses interact with customers, partners, suppliers and employees. Of 4,710 U.S. workers surveyed by IDC, 15 percent reported using a consumer social tool instead of corporate-sponsored social tools for business purposes due to ease of use, familiarity from... I read a blurb yesterday that this week marks the 41st anniversary of the Beatles' infamous last concert on top of their London headquarters. On the afternoon of January 30, 1969, the Beatles walked out onto their roof and into history with a 42 minute gig that brought central London to a standstill. I dug up the video on YouTube and it's still amazing, so I couldn't resist posting it here. If you're too young to remember or have just never seen the video, it's worth the seven minutes to watch. Also note Billy Preston on keyboards. Enjoy. Continue reading

I ran across an interesting report from The Nielsen Company last week which compares social media usage in December 2009 versus the same period in the previous two years. With the social media tsunami that has been building over the last couple of years, you would expect to see these numbers on the rise. And they are...in a big way. Overall, consumers spent more than five and a half hours on social media sites in December 2009, reflecting an 82% increase from the same time last year. Global Figures Social networks and blogs are the most popular category when ranked... Continue reading

Cisco released a global study today to assess how organizations are using social media tools for business purposes. The study reveals the rapid adoption of consumer-based social-networking throughout the enterprise and a growing need for governance and IT involvement. Conducted between April and September 2009, the research was carried out by IESE Business School in Spain, E. Philip Saunders College of Business at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the U.S., and Henley Business School in the U.K. The study findings indicate that the business world is at the early stages of adopting these tools and in the process of...
