I laugh a little at Texans in Winter weather too, since I'm native to Pennsylvania.
Doesn't mean I won't use a "snowy" or "icy" day to get out of driving to work of course. :-D
Hotter than July
I've spent most of today working on my setlist for w00tstock on Thursday, and reviewing all of my notes from Falling Skies, so I am prepared to moderate that panel on Friday. Normally, I take extended breaks on a workday and go for a walk in my neighborhood, sit with an iced tea on the patio and...
Yup, yup. I like to laugh a little when my in-laws in the Northeast talk about the "heat wave", 'cause here we just call it "summer".
And also, Dear The Rest of the Country: welcome to our pain...er...world!

So if I ride in that cab, I get to be on a gameshow?
Seems legit...
I was driving around Burbank today, and went past this Cash Cab: Seems legit.
The image of Wil as Klaus Nomi has ruined my brain forever. Thanks for that. :P
Good News, Bad News
I've been seeing lots of messages on Twitter and Facebook from people who are really excited to come see me tell stories and perform at the upcoming Denver Comicon. I love it that so many people are excited to see me do my thing... and I feel terrible that I have to cancel my attendance this yea...
I love how "free" makes some people think it's not okay to give feedback on something.
"This tastes horrible!"
"SO? WHAT PART OF FREE DON'T YOU GET? ARE YOU A SHAREHOLDER??"
Seriously, why can't people give their feedback just because it is "free"? And dude, if there are ads, it's not actually free.
Google is making a huge and annoying mistake.
I like Google Plus. Some of the smartest people I've ever read are on Google Plus, and the Hangout is amazing. But Google is doing everything it can to force Google Plus on everyone, and it's pissing me off. Yesterday, I tried to like a video on YouTube. I wasn't signed in to my Google Plus acco...
There's always Vimeo. :)

They missed an opportunity with Payne Way... could have been JaneWay!
I'll show myself out...
I still don't know very much about brain scans...
Here are three Star Trek-themed things that have come up recently. All of them made me laugh so hard I pooped a little, so they need to be preserved here for the ages. First, from Jimmy James, Inc: For the record, Wesley's dance crew was called Jiffy and da Popz. Next: Last night, Paul of Pa...
My hometown arcade was in an old cigar factory. They had Journey Escape - the game! Pretty awesome. It's still there, though not open to the public anymore. They just rent out machines to local pizza joints now.
the value of a quarter
Last week, I took my car to one of those car washes at the gas station. When I was waiting to pull in, I saw that for the low low price of one dollar more, I could upgrade my wash options from four useless things to seven useless things. Obviously, I reached into my change box (some of you may k...
Ouch. I can't say I'm terribly surprised, but it still sucks. I feel for you, Wil.
UPS shipping fail - updated (see end of post)
I shipped two boxes of books to Phoenix on Wednesday, to arrive here by 1030 this morning. I paid extra for this, like you do. As 11am rolled around and my books still weren't here, I got a little nervous, so I checked online to see where my packages were. It turns out UPS fucked up and "incorre...
*lightbulb* oooohhh, LIME. I never thought to add that. Thanks!
Soup. Black Bean. Hot.
"What are you making?" Anne asked. I looked up from the cutting board, and put the knife down so I wouldn't somehow cut my hand off when I wasn't looking (yes, I am that clumsy). "Black bean soup," I said. "Is it from a recipe, or are you winging it?" "I've made so many different recipes from so...
"If I were creating the world I wouldn't mess about with butterflies and daffodils. I would have started with lasers, eight o'clock, Day One!"
a greenish skirt
Sadie, can you take some photos of me in this green skirt? I want to show the waistband. It's ribbon, can you see this? Okay, I will stand very still. Thank you, these will be perfect. I own this bronze colored silk skirt I bought about 7 years ago from Max Studio and wear it way too much. It...
Indeed. I didn't finish college, but I WORKED to get to the level I am now (i.e. not making minimum wage). It's the work that some folk seem to chafe at, methinks. Regardless of how they couch their complaints.
a point of clarification
Yesterday, I overheard some twentysomethings complaining about how much they hated their jobs. After a few minutes, it became clear that none of them took high school seriously, and at least a couple of them had dropped out of community college because it was, in their words, "too hard." I Twitt...
Biggest pet peeves... the chronically late people, especially the ones who also chronically forget to turn off their phone.
And my personal peeve with the studio I've been using of late... the beginner-ish classes seem to mostly be offered during normal work hours, as if they think that those who need the introductory or more gentle offerings don't have day jobs.
The Yoga Studio Alternative
I've been a fan of home practice ever since I started on my yoga path well over a decade ago. That doesn't mean that I don't enjoy going to classes and workshops because I do both fairly regularly. I practiced at home when I had to move the coffee table in order to jam a yoga mat into the crowde...
Except that this "source" stole it from Terry Pratchett. Otherwise, all is well, right? ;-)
my sword glows blue in the presence of rules lawyers
Around the end of last year, I Twittered: Just read this on Board Game Geek: "My sword glows blue in the presence of rules lawyers." I kind of want that on a T-shirt. I figured that it was very unlikely that I was the first person on all of the internet to combine gaming archetypes with Lord o...
THIS. A few years ago, I found a couple sites that had my name and place of employment _with_ phone number! This was information that *I* hadn't chosen to make public, but somewhere, someone else *did*. You know? Like, people are all "if you don't want it known, don't put it on the web" except *I didn't* put it on the web myself. Somewhere along the line, that information was just freely handed over by a third party. That's just dispicable, IMO.
on the internet, nobody knows that you're a dog
I mentioned this on Twitter, but as Twitter has grown and grown (congrats, Biz and Ev!) it's become very "in the moment" and not the best place to put very important things like this: There's a page on Facebook that appears to be mine. The problem with this is that I don't use Facebook, and I do...
All the things you said, plus, I found it just to be a lame time-stealer and reclaimed a bunch of my time when I deleted the account (time spent mostly clicking "ignore" on the ENDLESS invitations to games). Did I lose touch with people? Sure the ones who friended me because they remembered me from highschool, yet we never spoke directly *to* each other on there anyway. I'm starting to think people have forgotten what "keeping in touch" actually means. I still use email and the phone for those who matter to me. Sometimes? I even send postal mail. I know, I'm a luddite, right. :-D

Wil - does my monitor need adjusting or is your ball... blue? o.0
something something giant balls
This picture was taken after we'd been working all day on all the scenes that take place in the bowling alley. It turns out that shooting pretend bowling sequences is really complicated, and just a few minutes of final cut takes several hours to film. What you can't see is how Jim and I are tr...
Happy New Year, Wil. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself and your experiences with us. Your one of those authors who inspires me to keep on writing too.
the 2009 year in review, part six
This post is not a number, it is a free man. It also continues my 2009 year in review from part five, and concludes this obscenely long series of posts that I hope was worth the time I put into creating them. I revealed a fairly major secret, and there was much rejoicing. Yaaay. About 24 hours ...
