Playing video games with my husband is one of the most fun things I've ever done. Even when he's playing single player Skyrim/Legend of Zelda/Assassins' Creed, I'm there next to him on the couch, pointing out stuff he's missed (ingredients, upcoming enemies, etc).
Since we recently moved and all of our electronics are packed away, we have no video games for the foreseeable future :( Guess it's time to move on to tabletop games!
in which diablo 3 is played with my son
Today, I'll wrap production on the latest series of audio books I've been doing. It's been ten long days, and though I genuinely adore the people I'm working with, I'll be happy when I get to the last word on the last page, because... I'm going to start work on a different and awesome project on...

Considering you wore an I <3 <3 The Doctor shirt and that AWESOME scarf to go to ECCC....You definitely MUST wear a bow tie and fez. It's only rational.
I forgot to mention that I'm coming to Australia
This Friday, I'm heading to Melbourne to present Video Games Unplugged with Scott Kurtz and Kris Straub. The show is going to be amazing: the MSO will play music from games like Bioshock 2, Heavy Rain, and Final Fantasy. As the music plays, they'll show the games on a huge screen. And did I ment...
But...where's your oven mitt friend? No love for Noel the Christmas walrus?

Dear 12 year-old Wil: Some day, you're going to have this in your office where you get paid to make up and write stories. Signed, Adult Wil (Who still can't believe it.)

Don't worry, Wil. We'll get her to like Doctor Who and all things nerdy! You're a great example, and Jeff (@cryanathus) and I will help as best we can!
in which my wife is nerd-adjacent and comedy ensues
I came across a bunch of posts that I'd marked as drafts, but never published. Most of them are ideas that never turned into actual posts, or things I wrote and decided not to post for some reason I've since forgotten. This one was originally written in November of 2009. I'm not sure why I left ...

Oh, Wil. You just made me snort coffee ALL OVER my keyboard. Now, I was raised in a fart joke/toilet humour family, so poop jokes are nothing new to me. However, I have never encountered a CAT poop story. This is comedy gold, good sir. I can sympathize with you on the stink too, my cat loves to catch mice and lizards and if those don't produce the foulest stench on the planet, I don't know what does.
this is really gross. you have been warned.
There is a tree near my house, that has probably been there for years, just doing its tree thing, watching patiently as families come and go, empires rise and fall, and Isengard is flooded. I'm sure it's a beautiful tree, cheerfully trading carbon dioxide for oxygen, providing shade, and most li...
Ha! It's even the clown sweater...nice. I like your brother :)
to boldly go where no clown sweater has gone before
Greetings from Vancouver, where the local hockey club is still in the playoffs, and the sky above our heads is the color of television, tuned to a dead channel (in 1980). I am having a wonderful time on Eureka, keeping notes in my notebook so that I can write about the experience of making these...
I hear Laika, I see a cute puppy dog being flung out into space with no chance of ever returning home :( Don't get flung out into the great beyond, Wil! We'll miss you!!
this post is titled Laika for some reason
When I started my blog almost ten years ago, I made a dedicated effort to write something new every day. I figured that it was good practice for me as a level zero writer, and I also knew that the only way to keep readers engaged was by providing new content all the time. As the years rolled by,...
25 years ago, I wasn't alive yet. Heck, my mom still hadn't graduated high school! But this...Wil, dang it, there's something in my eye now. Thank you.
from the vault: some of us are looking at stars
This was originally written in May of last year, just after I watched the space shuttle Atlantis blast off into orbit. On the anniversary of the Challenger disaster, I thought it was worth reprinting: On January 28, 1986, I was home from school with the flu. I remember that, no matter what I di...
AHA! At last we meet Ryan of the "I occasionally hack my Dad's twitter feed"! Beautiful family, Mr Wheaton. And of course, Anne is lovely...even with the unibrow!

"I have to tell you," Jonathan Coulton's wife said to me on the last night of the cruise, "how wonderful your boys are." "I have two daughters," Peter Sagal's wife told Anne, "and I hope this isn't weird or creepy, but I really hope they meet guys like your sons." "Dude, you know you raised your...

We Demand MacNeil!
A friend of mine recently accomplished one of those things which is worthy of being celebrated with champagne, so I went to the store this afternoon to get her a bottle. I picked out a bottle of Veuve Cliquot, which is Anne's and my favorite, and walked up to the register to pay. On my way, I th...

Congrats everyone!! Enjoy your books and have a great Christmahannukwanzadan! (or however that's spelled)
and the autographed book sale winners are ...
I am totally thrilled that 419 of you entered the autographed book lottery, and I'll be honest: it's weird to me to think of choosing "winners" who get to buy something from me, but that's just my damn liberal guilt, I guess. (And, I think I said this before, but in case I didn't: the Bursar at ...
I am SO interested in this. Being one of "The Nine" would seriously make my year! :D This is my Twitter acct, so it should have my email attached, but if not, it's apvaughan AT hotmail DOT com.
PS You're awesome^10
a very limited (I mean VERY limited) autographed book lottery
Yesterday, I said: I found nine hardback copies of The Happiest Days of Our Lives that I must have put there when they first arrived at my house a couple of years ago. They look as perfect as they did the day they were taken out of the box. So I have this idea to sell them, that goes like this:...

This is awesome! I believe I will now need this in poster format.

I love these alignment charts that are currently going around the Internets at the speed of meme; it isn't very often that D&D and pop culture references overlap, after all. As you can imagine, I especially love this one: There are several other charts at Mighty God King, where they're in the ...
Just like "Brangelina", Wil and Anne decided to adopt several adorable children from a foreign country.

This is crying out for a caption. I'll choose my favorite, and send something neat* to whoever writes it. Submissions open throughout the weekend, one per person, and can only be left as comments here (it's too difficult to track on Twitter or via e-mail). *definition of 'neat' will be at my s...
I'm 24...definitely not too old for the hug and the kiss on the top of the head. I am also not too old to snuggle with Mom on the couch while watching BBT (that is, when I get to see her). She's cozy!

Ryan was home for Thanksgiving, and as part of Operation Make The Most Out of Having My Entire Family Together for a Few Days, the four of us went out to dinner early Saturday evening. After we put in our drink orders, I got up to wash my hands. On my way to the washroom, I passed a mom and two ...
I love that you love being an awesome parent, no matter how cheesy it may seem to your kids. My mom is the same way, and I love it. I hope one day, I can be the same awesome kind of mom she is

in which teenage me is a deer in the headlights
Most of us are awkward teenagers; it's a class feature that stays with us until we level up to our twenties. But most of you didn't have your awkward teenage years play out in front of the world, preserved for future generations to enjoy, thusly: Talk about deer in the headlights! Everything a...

Where can I get one?
i got a new t-shirt today ...
I did a bunch of writing this morning, but I still don't have a monster to unleash on the villagers. I'm not going to lie to you, Marge, it's kind of frustrating, and my goddamn inner critic is screaming at me that I'm terrible and it's stupid and they're all going to laugh at me, which doesn't ...
